It must have a chip inside that's capable of recognizing an aircraft's shape. It's pretty easy to make when you think about it, it's just image recognition sotware. You have to understand that we, the average Joe, really don't know much about the capabilities of the missile in real life. So making a statement that it should be that way or this way just isn't reasonnable. I'm not saying the weapons in DCS are perfect but the thing is, without any proof or any data to support your statement you have to consider that there's a very high chance of it being false.
  2. Good luck fighting against F-22...
  3. Super cool dude and what a great aircraft the mig 21 was. I enjoyed watching it despite the interviewer always asking the same questions mechanically even when the interviewee already gave the answer 3 times...
  4. Well, I made a similar thread in the Hornet general forum about three weeks ago. My post wasn't very well formulated and I guess because I didn't post in the bugs subforum, the devs didn't see it.
  5. Hi, I've come accross an episode of the Fighter Pilot Podcast (episode #20 between 7:23 and 8:13) where Jell-O says that when you advance the throttles just a notch from idle, the engine exhaust nozzles begin to close, giving you added thrust without an increase in fuel flow. The behavior that he describes is different from what we have in the current DCS F-18. Fuel flow increases immediately and the nozzles don't start closing until quite far in the throttle range. Now maybe the devs have already researched the subject and this doesn't apply to the Lot 20, I don't know... But at least I wanted to make sure they saw this. Thanks!
  6. Seriously though... the pricing is a joke.
  7. No, it still isn't. Tested yesterday.
  8. New Cockpit I like how you can open the map case :D
  9. I haven't had any difficulty dogfighting against the Mig-15 and F-86. Something must be wrong with your technique.
  10. I know, the idle position seems fine but the problem is there below That's not how it is modelled in DCS right now. When you advance the throttle the fuel flow increases right away and the nozzle does not start closing immediately.
  11. Oh ok, got it. Here it's about keeping thrust to a minimum in order to avoid injuring the ground crew when you're sitting still on the deck and not asking for power. The F-18 does that by having its engine exhaust nozzles open when the throttles are on idle.
  12. No I am just referring to the standard engine nozzles. I have never heard of such a thing as a taxi nozzle.
  13. According to Jell-O, a former F-18 pilot, the nozzle should be open when the throttle is on idle and it should close if you advance the throttle just a notch, without an increase in fuel flow. This is from the Fighter Pilot Podcast episode 20. Now maybe it does not apply to the Lot 20 Hornet we have in DCS. I don't know... But at least it would be something worth checking with subject matter experts. I have attached the audio down below. Please take a listen, Jell-O describes it pretty well. Thanks. EDIT: I didn't make it clear enough : the nozzle position in idle seems fine but it's when you start increasing the throttle that the behavior doesn't correspond with what Jell-O says. Right now in DCS when you advance the throttle the fuel flow increases right away and the nozzle does not start closing immediately. f18 engine nozzle.zip
  14. Yes A-10C is a great purchase. You won't regret it.
  15. A-10 cockpit looks very roomy in VR, it's true. On a standard monitor it doesn't really appear that way.
  16. Nearly four years down the line... an update is much needed. Thanks.
  17. It has been posted several times before but hey, good podcast, I agree :D
  18. One problem I have is I find myself stuck in AUTO mode once I have started using it. Trying to revert to ccip by editing the weapon profile and selecting ccip doesn't always do the trick. Even after changing weapons I'm still stuck in AUTO mode. Any ideas?
