  1. Perhaps it's time to pull out this old demonstration of the ED terrain tools again: xYUHbx6hYJ8 Is it just a demonstration, with a randomly selected ares being shown, or is it an indication of something that might be available somewhere down the line? Let's hope for the latter.
  2. The military airbases in the area are Banak, Andøy, Bardufoss, Bodø and Evenes. There are also 10+ civilian airports there, but they are mostly short strips of limited use for anything other than helis and harriers. Road bases are a no-go in Norway, since we barely have any straight pieces of road at all ("is there a rock in the way? Build the road around it!"), and practically none that are long (and wide) enough to land a plane on.
  3. This is reset after every update, so you'll need to keep changing your graphics.lua ad infinitum. Just change it in autoexec.cfg, and you won't have to mess with it again.

  5. To clarify: I'm only interested in the DCS F18 manual (whenever that may be ready in a state of completion where printing makes sense), not the real one.
  6. I'm interested if it's done properly (spiral bound) and the price is right.
  7. The new 3d model is completely different from the existing AI F/A-18C, so the existing template will most likely be obsolete when the module is released.
  8. Another important aspect regaring inflation is that there are several currencies involved, which may or may not develop in a similar direction inflation-wise. Most of ED's expences (salaries etc) will be in Russian roubles, so both the USD-to-rouble exchange rates and the Russian CPI has to be taken into consideration.
  9. Yup. Retro hardware (especially avionics) is always interesting.
  10. Which isn't so surprising, since the USMC has been a component of the US Navy for nearly 184 years.
  11. ED has previously stated that there will be no more hard copies of manuals. Once the PDF is released, you can go to a local print shop and have a copy made. If you team up with several other people (and find the cheapest print shop online), the price won't be too bad. As an example, a spiral bound 500 page (250 double sided A4 pages) manual will cost ~14€ when buying 10 pcs. from a randomly selected shop.
  12. The WIP template is available from the razbam wesite.
  13. OT, but "Maritime Augmented Guidance with Integrated Controls for Carrier Approach and Recovery Precision Enabling Technologies" has to be one of the dumbest backronyms in US military history.
  14. Sorry. Meant 1.5.8. Latest version.
  15. That's not a manual. It's a single page advertisement.
  16. Works fine here. 40-ish servers showing in 2.2 Edit: and 88 servers in 1.5.7

    2.5 Size?

Yup. Worked fine last time I tested.

    2.5 Size?

Why do it so complicated? If, on "2.5-day", the release and open beta versions of 1.5 are the same version (like now; 1.5.8.12823.414), you can delete one or the other. It doesn't matter which one, as they are identical at that point. The installer will find your 1.5 and 2.2 files even if they aren't located on the same drive where you are installing 2.5, so if you're low on SSD space, move one or both to a HDD.
  19. This question is impossible to answer. First of all, the definition of "must have mods" is highly subjective. Some people can't live without new terrain textures, some need flyable AI aircraft with FC3 cockpits, and some need custom aircraft liveries. Stuff like flyable AI aircraft or new ground units (e.g. upuauts cargo mod) often need updates when going from one subrevision to anoher (1.5.5 to 1.5.7 etc etc). Terrain textures will most likely not work at all, due to the new/updated terrain mesh. Skins made for 1.5.x will need new SPEC and RoughMet files to work properly with the new PBR lighting engine. Sound mods will most likely work as before.
  20. You seem to be thinking of software like we did back in the pre-internet days. A constantly evolving product like DCS is never "finished" or "complete". And the "point of producing dozens of aircraft modules" is simple: generate income to allow the development of the core sim (and future modules). I know this sounds like complete crazy talk, but the 80-ish people working for ED actually get paid for their work (apparently even Russians need money; who'd have thunk it?). When you give away your base product for free, the money needs to come from somewhere else.
  21. Here's something to keep you entertained until ED releases their own manual: http://www.avialogs.com/index.php/en/aircraft/ussr/yakovlev/yak-52.html
  22. There are several high power RF-emmitters close to the canopy, so a thin film of metal is deposited (PVD) onto the canopy glass for RF-shielding (basically turning the cockpit into a faraday cage). A similar process is used for the canopies on planes like the F-117/22/35, which prevents the cockpit from acting as a corner reflector for the incoming radar waves.
  23. Sorry to say so, but this seems pretty pointless. Do you want separate launchers for each plane as well?
  24. ...then it's fun you can't see any more.
  25. But not the D model. The G was the only straight-wing F-84 to carry nukes. I don't mean to be overly critical here, but you really need to work on your research skills...
