Slight inaccuracy in the Oxygen Indicator?
JupiterJoe replied to Salty Buckets's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
You're of course right to point this issue out, but my hope is Heatblur consider things like this a low priority when compared to getting systems like Heading Hold and Wing Sweep to work as they should. I would put items like this in the 'finishing touches' category, with other cockpit lighting issues like the bright white night lighting of the Electronic Instrument Group (Engine Parameter Bars) on the F-14B. I would even put these items lower on the list than getting previously unimplemented systems like the engine fire suppression up and running for example. I suspect these days most of HB resources are allocated to projects like the F4. Projects that are going to bring money in more readily and that's of course as it should be. The F-14 remains one of the best modules in DCS. HB's reputation for producing a quality product and expectation for future products couldn't be higher. Continued polishing/development of their modules helps maintain that reputation, but there must only be a skeleton crew left working on the F-14 by now. I'm sure they're aware of how beloved their F-14 module is. -
Feedback Thread - F14 Tomcat Patch July 21st 2022
JupiterJoe replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
HEADING HOLD doesn't seem to do anything. I've removed the deadzones that were a workaround after the last patch. Engaging AP on the ground makes the plane trim all the way aft. -
Thank you Draconus. Is what I'm doing here correct? DCS is on its own SSD: null

Game crashes when flying Cage the Bear - Cargo
JupiterJoe replied to Dentedend10's topic in Bugs and Problems
I too am having the same freezing issue with this campaign. Around 60 miles out from carrier, heading home. Has happened on multiple missions, but sometimes they play straight through with no problems. Here is a log from the latest crash. Hope it helps: dcs.log -

Running request - Bindable Button / Axis options
JupiterJoe replied to maverickturner's topic in Bugs and Problems
Unfortunately my Thrustmaster T-Flight Stick X only has joystick and throttle as axis controls. The little thumbstick is digital and I currently use it for full in/out DLC. It ain't pretty, but it works. Out of curiosity I just switched the throttle axis slider over to DLC, just to sample how good life could be if I had another axis. It was a beautiful thing Albeit whilst I was stationary. -

JupiterJoe replied to maverickturner's topic in Bugs and Problems
I was thinking the mouse wheel would've been ideal for this application, but I can't bind anything to it. Anyway, if real life pilots didn't have variable control of DLC, meaning they could only have it fully deployed/retracted and nothing in between, then that's the way I want it in the sim. -

Okay, thank you RustBelt. I was just watching the smooth inputs the ACLS made with the DLC and was wondering if we were missing a trick. Forget what I said. If it's modelled accurately then I'm happy. -
I'm not a VR user either. It's an internal sound issue when airborne. To reiterate, after AB use in the F-14A one or more internal sound files stops playing (cockpit avionic cooling fan sounds, or whatever. It's a perpetual/looped file that doesn't change tone with speed, but is noticeable when it's absent). The file begins playing again when the aircraft falls below a certain speed/throttle position. This sudden change in the soundscape of course hurts immersion a little, but is not a huge deal. Would HB maybe consider posting a spreadsheet/snagging list of currently tracked bugs (Ejection arming switch sound file looping for example) and not yet implemented features (engine fire extinguishers for example)? Colour coded for priority of course. Perhaps if there was an updated spreadsheet/snagging list for everyone's reference, pinned to the very top of the Bugs & Problems Forum? The F-14 is the jewel in the crown of DCS and is a landmark in the field of simulation. What you guys do with the resources you have is nothing short of incredible.

[NOT A BUG] HSD partially see-through on the sides
JupiterJoe replied to Morrov's topic in Bugs and Problems
Nice find. Your images reminded me of a related issue. Is the Electronic Instrument Group (Engine Parameters) in the B missing its tinted lens/glass cover? Is that why it's so much brighter than everything else? Currently looks a little silly at night. -
Engine failures not included, our apologies
JupiterJoe replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Yes there's a scripted failure in one of Reflected's campaigns and it's an awesome touch. I understand adding random failures could interrupt a carefully scripted campaign missions. Managing the failure and still completing the mission would increase the sense of accomplishment, but if you can't find a workaround and have to return to base then so be it. You can always fly the mission again, or choose to skip it. -

JupiterJoe replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Well then I guess either no one is enabling random failures in the construction of their F-14 Campaigns, or they're not working. As I've said, I've never encountered a single system failure that wasn't brought about by damage. IRL the Tomcat was known to be quite maintenance heavy and crews did experience various systems failing on occasion. Be nice to have to work around an issue mid-mission every now and again. -

Engine failures? Is this a thing? I've never had a 'Random Mechanical Failure', engine or otherwise, are they modelled? The fire extinguishes don't do anything, never have. -

Feedback Thread - F-14 Tomcat Patch June 8th 2022
JupiterJoe replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Auto-throttle light (below NWS light) not coming on. AT only engaging for me when the throttle is roughly lined-up with the the rivet. Not when it's between 75 - 90%, as stated in the manual: -
Just before the game froze-up again today I noticed the radio tuned to a frequency automatically when I attempted to contact the carrier via the Comms menu. When I asked Jester to tune to the Carrier TACAN the game froze and crashed. Some servers have Easy Comms as a global setting. I have Easy Comms deselected/switched off in my local settings. Perhaps this hints at where the conflict is. I suspect it's only on servers with Easy Comms that the crash occurs. Suggested workaround: If you stick to using the Comms menu on servers with Easy Comms, then the radio will automatically tune to the right frequency and you can avoid using the Jester menu for this purpose.

[RESOLVED] ACLS still not working in the tomcat
JupiterJoe replied to shifor's topic in Bugs and Problems
I commented on this on May 18th. I cannot get auto-throttle to engage at between 75-90%. It usually only works just above idle for me, but not any more than that, making it a very narrow target to hit. It sometimes takes multiple attempts to engage. As per a Grim Reapers video AT used to engage anywhere between idle and about 90%, now it's very tricky: -

I concur. APC (Auto-throttle) is still too tricky to engage. -

JupiterJoe replied to shifor's topic in Bugs and Problems
I think the manual says you must be between 75 - 90% power for auto-throttle to engage, but in practice I find it engages more easily just above idle. It certainly doesn't engage as easily as it used to, but perhaps it's been made more realistic. I find it helps if the gear and flaps are fully deployed and probably the DLC too. There is an auto-throttle light beneath the NWS (Nose-wheel steering) caution light, but for some strange reason it only seems to come on for a few seconds, instead of staying illuminated when the system is activated, like the NWS does. -

Yeah, that's about where mine froze-up too.
