R-77 + R-27ET + R-73... No SARH though but hey, why bother when you can go active!
-
it's on the brochures but there is no evidence of Flankers carrying such armement. Same goes for other missiles such as the R27EA, R-37....etc This is what Flankers carried over Syria recently, if not mistaken, I see 4x R-27R (ER?) + 2x R-73...

Tacview 10th Anniversary Sale: 60% off pro and home licenses!
FLANKERATOR replied to Vyrtuoz's topic in For Sale
This is more than a tool, it has become a MUST! Ten years down and many more full-of-success to come. -
It's always been about killing AND surviving the engagement; A kill means nothing if you got shot down; it's actually better to get back home in one piece with zero kills than not coming back at all but of course this is easier said than done. Bottom line is that it takes a great deal of mental strength and discipline to overcome greediness and stay cool-headed under pressure and PvP in DCS is no exception.

Blaze's piece of advice is valuable no doubt but I have to agree that it was not conveyed in an appropriate way. Starting against AI is not a bad idea in my opinion, this is good to get a good grasp of how the avionics work etc. The transition to MP will be trickier for sure but I think it is better to know how to operate the systems first before going PvP rather than not. I'm sure a lot of people have gone down the same road, I have as well.

Hey, if you just want to fly around with other people then you should head over to Virtual Aerobatics server; if you want to fight in the Mustang, then Dogs of War may be a suitable destination. You can set up your own server, you just need to open port 10308 in both UDP and TCP protocols on the internal IP of the hosting machine, then head over to DCS multiplayer to set up your server and launch it. There is no built in voice comm system for DCS but TeamSpeak is a great tool if set up correctly; there are also a few good mods out there that you should try.

Anyone want to practice F15c dog fights?
FLANKERATOR replied to scarecrow101's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Head over to 104th TeamSpeak, Stuge often runs dogfighting evenings with a few friends, they are all worthy opponents and Stuge himself is a nightmare to dance with....it's all in a great ambiance and you'll gain valuable experience. -
I'd love seeing fight breakdowns or case studies...that would require advanced knowledge of not only avionics but also tactical understanding of what a particular aircraft can do in any given situation....in a perfect world, the screen would be split in two parts, one for cockpit view and the other for Tacview...I'd do it if I had time...

We all got used to taking ED's endeavor for granted, though let's not forget that there are many gaming genres out there with million of players (potential customers) worldwide. Yet, these guys have chosen to stick with us and it's been two decades of dedication to one of the smallest yet very demanding gaming niches, thank you ED!

Hats off to you sir, very well done and I absolutely loved the details about the Pulse-Doppler radar, also the little intercept sortie to showcase the effect of energy on missiles. Looking forward to the next one! Rep inbound

Situational Awareness - The Virtual Battlefield Journal
FLANKERATOR replied to FLANKERATOR's topic in Multiplayer
Here are a few great videos of Red Flag 4 from our Friend Bushmanni, leader of the SF squadron and one of the very best DCS pilots in the world! I’m sure many will find these videos helpful in widening your knowledge of the F-15C Eagle and honing your tactics for a fully fledged force on force battle like Red Flag. http://sa-sim.com/combat-air-patrol-over-nevada-with-bushmanni/ -
Double check your internal IP (192.168.x.y) the last digit could change frequently especially if more then one terminal is using the same router then portforward that very IP on both TCP and UDP. Don't worry about your external IP in this case only internal IP matters for portforwarding.

Su-27 Maximum Speed Tests & Analysis.
FLANKERATOR replied to DarkFire's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Massive work, kudos to you, sir. Results look good to me at first glimpse. -
Leavu just like Tacview is heavily based on export lua (server-side for the latter but client-side for Leavu) so this potentially dangerous if manipulated as one can use that feature to import live data not supposed to be accessed in the first place (enemy position for example).
-
Track IR, joystick, MFDs..etc can not be used to cheat, LEAVU can so this comparison is kind of lame.
-
Very well organised, great job TAW!

You should take the angle off as a reference, anything from 0 to 90 degree is best detected with MED (targets flying away from you) then from 90 to 180 degree is best detected with HI (targets flying towards you). ILV is a hybrid mode capable of detecting at any angle at the expense of a reduced range and detection time. Keep also in mind that the radar will always have more difficulties detecting targets flying away from it than those flying towards it, hence the reduced detection range. EOS would be a better option in that case.

Russian missiles - usage, bug, problems, advantages
FLANKERATOR replied to tovivan's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
RVV or R-77, truth is that it really sucks big time in DCS, I have never seen a missile bleed its speed so abruptly that it looks like it put its air brakes or reverse thrust on. -
AIM-7 should be pitted against the R-27R to start with not the ER version, which as you noticed has much longer legs. 'Good news' is that guidance is far from being bulletproof so you can still defeat early shots with proper defensive BVR maneuvers (cranking, notching...etc) and wait for the target to get within effective range. There are lot of tactics that could be used, this was just the basic idea to get you headed the right way. I also assume you are aware AIM-7 is a semi-active missile, thus needs support from the radar all the way.
