Changes to overload wingbreak mechanic in Beta 2.7.7.15038
Sandman1330 replied to Preendog's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
That’s not true according to Gonky. I apologize that I don’t have a better time stamp for where exactly he speaks about it, but IIRC it’s in the first third of the video. He says he used to think that the wing fold was the only difference too, but since he’s started working at Boeing, he has learned it is a completely different wing with structural reinforcement throughout the jet. I’ll look for the spot if I get a chance and update the post with a timestamp. (Edit: starts at 18:30) -
Changes to overload wingbreak mechanic in Beta 2.7.7.15038

To each their own, I used to get fired up at people using the paddle in BFM, but now I've just decided to let them play the way they want. I'll make fun of them for it, especially if I am beating them without using it, but I don't get fired up anymore. I don't understand why people flock to DCS for it's realism, then choose to fly in an unrealistic manner, but again - to each their own... I would like to see failures like Heatblur has implemented - Gonky once said something about the gun possibly being something that might break first (that would be a significant factor in BFM ), or maybe failed control surfaces, etc. I can't claim to know where the weak points of the jet are, but I have no doubt that something would break with repeated pulls of 9G+... You might get away with one or two. -
Will DCS support the network location (network folder)?
Sandman1330 replied to scommander2's topic in DCS 2.9
Mklink is the same as a symbolic link. I’m glad it worked! For anyone else lurking here, there is a great article on how to do this: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symlinks-on-windows-or-linux/ I personally use the link shell extension that’s shown later in the article. Works great and is very easy! -
G'day all, I've been having this issue for awhile now (probably a year?). I have 2 servers running on one dedicated server install, using separate saved games folders. For the second instance only, the first mission opens just fine when starting the server, however when I go hit restart in the UI or hit run on a different mission, I get the "error starting server" message. It doesn't happen all the time, but typically seems to happen after the server has had a client online and the mission was running. IE, I'll go on, play for a bit, log off, then go into the UI to restart the mission back to it's start state, or run a different mission. Once this has happened, the only way to get it going again is to force close then restart the server instance. In the spoiler is what I believe to be the relevant portion of the log file, and I've included the whole log file for reference. It seems to me to be some kind of permissions issue (cannot decompress mission, failed to open). I've tried running as administrator, forcing permission through windows, etc. Originally I had been using one common folder within the first instance's mission folder and pointing the UI to those missions, but I changed that to a common folder that's not within either instance's saved games to see if that helped - it didn't. I'm kind of at a loss now as to what to try next. Anyone have any ideas? Cheers! dcs.log

Will DCS support the network location (network folder)?
Sandman1330 replied to scommander2's topic in DCS 2.9
Yup, windows 10. I agree, Win 10 is very finicky with networking. I honestly can’t recall exactly what hoops I had to go through, but ensure you have enabled network discovery and set the network to a home network on all your systems. Then, ideally, when you go to “network” on your PC, they should all show up. If they are all logged into the same windows account, that will help immensely too. Otherwise you may need to go in and individually grant network permissions, and you may need to anyway. Once all this gets sorted out, you can map the saved games folder on the server as a network drive on your main pc. Then you can use a symbolic link to create a shortcut to that folder in your main pc saved games folder. if you’re not sure how to do any of these, try googling for tutorials. If you use my exact wording (create symbolic link, map network drive) you’ll find great info. Good Luck! -
Will DCS support the network location (network folder)?
Sandman1330 replied to scommander2's topic in DCS 2.9
I do this regularly using symbolic links. I have my gaming PC and my server PC. The server system only has the dedicated server version installed, so when I want to edit the missions that server runs I do it with my main PC. Map the network drive, then create a symbolic link within your main DCS saved games / missions folder that points to the destination on your mapped drive. I’ve even managed to link a google drive sync folder within the saved games folder for my server, so with the user name and password, all the guys in my group can run any mission they want on my server remotely. Upload it to the google drive, then log in remotely to the web UI and run the mission from the synced folder. -
Ya know what would be REALLY cool, and next level? If I'm 2 ship, or 4 ship, with other Tomcats - Let's start with other player flown aircraft, but maybe AI could eventually do it to - what if Jester took control of the fight? He coordinates with the RIOs of the other aircraft on sorting, target priority, etc. It could start out simple - you've got a 2 ship, you're on the left, he states "sort left/right" and automatically takes the left, and Jester in the other aircraft takes the right. They could also ensure you're both not targeting the same aircraft. I don't know if this is in the realm of the possible given DCS limitations, but wouldn't that be cool? Multiple Jesters coordinating with each other (as they would IRL)...

I’d love to see those boundaries to the map, but that would be huge. It’s 1200km from Kabul to the gulf, by comparison the PG map is 800km from the eastern portion of the detailed area (tip of Oman) to Kuwait, and Kuwait is not even included in the detailed area. There’s only about 500km of detail in PG, and that’s the largest map so far. I do think it’s possible, and would hope to see, a detailed area from the Kabul area (maybe up to the Hindu Kush) to Kandahar, ending maybe at the Registan desert in the south. It could then be a low detail area down to the coast to allow for those missions off the boat. Better be proficient with AAR though, that’ll be a long flight!

Serious about what? We’ve already identified I was wrong and that’s an FW190.

It’ll come

Possibly, but all I’m trying to say is the teaser video is just that - a teaser. They’ll release a much more detailed roadmap in a couple weeks that will provide much more info on the things teased today, and cover things that weren’t (like performance improvements). I am waiting for those improvements as eagerly as anyone else! For reference, here is last year’s news, released in early January: https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/254461-official-news-2021/?do=findComment&comment=4532354

From todays video, it looks like Bagram will likely be the focal point of the map, likely as Far East as Jalalabad and maybe Peshawar. I do hope it goes far enough south to include Kandahar. Whether you play out 80s scenarios or modern scenarios, Kandahar was pivotal in both conflicts. The corridor between Bagram and Kandahar for a couple hundred kilometres either side will make an excellent area for ops. If they want to go as far as the Hindu Kush though, this will make for a huge map. It would be nice to see Helmand province included as well, but that may be too big…

It’s hard to showcase that kind of stuff in a trailer video. They usually release a new text roadmap a week or two after this video, so watch that space for updates I think.

I thought the cockpit looked a little wrong. Thanks for point that out, too bad.

Firstly - great patch guys, I love seeing the Viper come together! I'm not sure if I've found a bug, I want to do more testing but this is what I've found so far. I can set the markpoint using HMCS the first time around. Once I've employed ordnance (Maverick in PRE mode in this case, haven't tested much else yet), I cannot get it to switch to HMCS to set a second mark point. Steps to reproduce: Set a markpoint normally using HMCS (works the first time) Select that mark as your stpt, slew the pod onto the target Fire a maverick in PRE mode using the TGP. Now, pressing 7 (mkpt), then using TMS up long will not switch to the HCMS for mark point creation (no circle in the HMCS). I've tried switching out of A-G, switching mavs out of pre, TMS down, etc - nothing I can figure out yet will allow me to set a second markpoint using HMCS once I've fired a mav in PRE mode. [CAN NOT REPRODUCE] Maverick and TGP Issues
Sandman1330 replied to Mirage2425's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Still having this issue. It seems to happen more frequently if you forget to change to pre mode before boresighting. If I've forgotten to change to pre mode before boresighting, nothing I do can get it out of vis mode. Wpn page TMS aft short doesn't work in this case. Edit: And I just tried to reproduce it to create a track.... and couldn't reproduce it. At least this time wpn page TMS aft short worked, but it most definitely didn't last time. I'll keep trying.... Edit 2: Now I can't reproduce it, of course. The original mission was a complex mission with much scripting so a track file from that isn't ideal... -
correct as-is Helmet Qing takes ages in the Viper compaired to Hornet.
Sandman1330 replied to FuY's topic in Bugs and Problems
Unfortunately you’re interpreting Doppler filter incorrectly. Right idea, slightly off on the application. The Doppler filter exists to prevent ground clutter from showing on the radar. Therefore, it filters out anything with 0 relative speed to the ground, not to the aircraft. For example, if I’m travelling 300kts ground speed, anything with 300kts closure to me will be filtered out, not something with 0 relative closure to me. The big mountain in front of me will be coming towards me at 300kts, that’s what gets filtered out. The aircraft in front going the same speed as me will have a different Doppler shift from that mountain, and will be seen. If I want to hide in the Doppler filter, I “notch” the other guy’s radar by putting him at 90 degrees, not flying towards or away from him, creating 0 relative speed in reference to the ground. It’s as if he’s approaching a large ridge line perpendicular to his path. That ridge line is filtered out by the Doppler filter. If I fly along the length of that ridgeline, I’m creating the same Doppler shift as that ridgeline and I’ll be filtered out. It is a bit more complex then that when you start talking about look up vs look down, etc - but that’s the gist. -
Frustration venting - Cold start on multiplayer servers
Sandman1330 replied to Trettifire's topic in Multiplayer
I disagree, I prefer hot starts since I do cold starts for a living - but hey, it’s a game and we all enjoy how we want! As for your HOTAS, I used to have that problem. While you are in the select role page, give your throttle a bump forward then back to idle, this input should sync your HOTAS to its actual position. If it doesn’t work, try changing the setting in options “sync HOTAS at mission start” and try it again. If neither of these work feel free to PM me, I’ll dig into my actual settings and see if I can figure out how I rectified it. -
Holy thread necro! Thanks for the reply and the PM, the issue is long solved. Cheers!

I noticed this was missing too. I did a battlefield tour in 2006 and visited many of these places, and it struck me that many were not included in the map (see my post on Vimy)
