Controllers (went way off topic and moved)
aileron replied to GazAce's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Out of curiosity... is there functionality on the F18 stick that isn't on the A10 warthog stick? Or put another way... can the A10 stick do everything that the F18 stick does? I still haven't picked up the Warthog HOTAS and am now getting ready to buy it and am really curious. -
Wow... holy wow... Favorite bird of all time. The C has the nicest lines of the A4's. :)

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
aileron replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Having problem installing any SimShakerXXX_setup. Install.log shows following error: Anybody know how to fix? Or is the website just down for the moment? ETA: So followed link and it installed after I saved the .application file and clicked on it. -
+1 on this idea. Must be done. It concerns me sometimes when I realize that DCS hasn't done this... meaning the map concept is not what we think it is and its not trivial or it would already exist.

Cool... can't wait to see this flying in DCS. :)

I also have a hard time believing that the real thing doesn't hover in ground effect. It seems when I watch videos of gazelles taking off, they very much look as if they are hovering in ground effect. While the FM in DCS feels like your hovering out of ground effect at all times. Still enjoy the challenge of flying her, but just don't buy that its realistic at least not to the Huey's standard. Definitely to other sims.

Upuaut's Bell-47G/H-13 Sioux for DCS World - Teaser

This is one super fun helo to fly. I like it better than some of the paid for modules. -
I block Facebook on my firewalls... so I can't watch it on Facebook. Sad that Facebook gets a head start... I have to wait days for them to finally release it. Ugh.

Wow impressive. -
Stupid question but I'm going to preface it first. It appears to me that DCS has not attempted to make this a full up Electronic Battlefield (considering how difficult that would be.) An Electronic Battlefield would have FPS modules, Tank Modules, Naval Modules, Map modules, and Flight Modules all interacting together within a campaign engine within DCS world. We're not there so this seriously limits what can be expected. Considering how Infantry digs in and fights street to street, Bocage to Bocage, hedge to hedge... this is not something I imagine is done in DCS. Even Tanks probably have a difficult time tactically moving within the map. So question is because DCS is a flight sim and I know the tanks can take each other out, what impact does infantry have against each other and other ground assets/air assets? Also can they move tactically (i.e. find cover, etc) across the map?

Yes but when will it be available... Beginning 2018?

In options/Controls/UI Layer/toggle VR Zoom Assign a joystick button to zoom in and you're good to go. -
I stand corrected... Cathedral. ;) I'm not getting my hopes up for Mont Saint Michel, I figured when they expanded the map that wasn't going to be worth their time to create. It wasn't ever in the line of fire during the war if I remember correctly. I think it was close to being a tourist stop for the upper echelons on both sides during the war. Since I've been there as well, I'm going to have to just do a pass at high speed and see if anything is there outside of a mound of dirt.

As PicksKing says... probably going to be underwhelming.

I've actually stayed in Bayeux, France so I could go see Omaha Beach... so for me, I'm going to Bayeux and see how close it is to what I remember. Wonder if it has the church there? So once the map is out where on the map or what on the map do you want to see first?

Hey thanks for this. The gentleman talks about the green books, so I've linked the one he mentions here: http://www.history.army.mil/html/books/007/7-4-1/index.html

Pilot Induced Oscillations (PIO) in the Huey during transitional lift stages, bad hovering PIO's, and whipping the aircraft low and slow close to the ground still get me on occasion. Basically anything with lots and lots of quick pitching motion that effects the horizon for than a minute can zing me still. Outside of that, in the beginning I would play for awhile get queasy then lay down for a few to get rid of the strong sense of it. Surf the net to take a break and recoup for a few hours and then go back in. Rinse/Repeat. Took about a week and half to get comfortable where I didn't notice really getting queasy. Then you start pushing it because some of the sensations are losing their effect.

I was reading yet another book on Huey Helicopter Pilots in the Vietnam war and Pilots almost always mention the Crew Chief and his role. How he would be prepping the aircraft for the next days flight or even checking on it when in a temporary location for a few hours. Just curious where would one find information on what the crew chief was doing to the Huey. I'm fascinated to know... and I'm wondering if their was a standard crew chief checklist/manual something or other they used to make sure they did everything they were suppose to. Anyone know where info like that might be found or is that just too much info and not available?

Considering how many Firebases were created and abandoned and then even re-opened. It would make for quite the challenge. Procedural generation is the future and its the only way to make large scale maps that can morph. Outside of the challenge of plopping down village/city/roads etc. If you consider the Daisy Cutter Bomb to make an LZ or just annihilate a whole bunch of the enemy how that poses a problem, because trees need to be destructible. The way they could bald a hilltop leaving behind a mass of burnt and broken toothpick like trees sticking out of the ground with smashed twigs and shards of wood everywhere with blackened earth and dead everything. Its another problem all its own. Oh yea and GI's made LZ's by blowing trees and pushing back the Elephant Grass or cutting the shrubbery. Not to mention that some areas have huge amounts of sheer cliff walls that pose their own problem on maps with textures. They can look almost like dragons teeth sticking out of the ground. You would need really high mesh detail in those areas to make it believable. But if they could do it, it would be really beautiful... probably some of the most beautiful areas in the map. Then you're right only procedural generation with some way to look through old aerial photos that can be recreated procedurally gets us there. I know people are doing work like that... I just think Eagle Dynamics isn't in that mindset yet. I would love to see this... but considering how long people have wanted a Dynamic campaign... I'm not of the opinion this is in the realm of possibility anytime soon. *sigh* ETA: Another thought just came to mind, if they could do this procedural updates, we might for the first time be able to leave behind the pock marks of where the bombs landed. Leaving the map to get progressively worst as time goes on as more and more bombs are dropped on the landscape. That would be unreal.
