I don't know... how exactly would someone mistakenly write all that malicious code?

Well there is this video.

My condolences to his family and friends. RIP Gos... you will be sorely missed.

DAMN IT. I JUST DONT GET QFE 2 QNH SETTINGS in F-5E
aileron replied to DaveRindner's topic in DCS: F-5E
Not a personal attack on you MidnightZulu... but I really dislike people making the excuse that this is an combat sim so its okay. Everyone sets their altimeter (well I can't really say it happens everywhere; grass strips in the boonies where a guy might not care, but in the major areas like LA where I learned) Its so basic its taken for granted... that is until you come to DCS. Its not a good excuse... its within the very fabric of flying in the real world and it should be in this sim. On my very first flight lesson I was introduced to dealing with the radios and setting the altimeter. I learned out of KLGB so had to do the full listen in on ATIS (set altimeter), then contact clearance delivery, ground, and finally tower to get airborne... all on my first flight. I can't say my experience is universal but I bet its close. ETA: I mean having to contact ATIS and then set altimeter, and use radios in some fashion when starting. -
Oilfield campaign landing zone in forest

Maybe the mods can put this where it belongs in the campaigns section for the oilfield campaign so you can get help from the developer. -

What about when your starting in a helicopter on the ground in a small valley between the hills. The worst part of it is, that the sim is setting the altimeter to zero. Something I would never want at anytime in the real world unless doing aerobatics low to the ground. I don't reference maps to know I need to stay at or above 8000 so as not to run into anything for nothing you know. And in DCS I find out I have no idea what my starting elevation is and some joker has set my altimeter to zero. So I'm trying to read the F10 view and read elevation lines trying to figure out if its in feet or meters and where about's am I in altitude to the nearest elevation line on the map? I want to know if there is a setting to set all aircraft/Helo's to the altitude its at on the ground when you start the sim. -
No problem. btw in my last sentence instance should say instant. As in immediately.

Guys, I have a few quastions with another Wags video. Its about F-5 now. at 4:05 He said "radio comms ???ARENT BLACK???" right? If I'm hearing him right he is saying "COMMS are IN BLACK." Because when you look at the F8 Comms Menu, its black in color. at 5:00 "We going ask for air suply, ????? NOT A BAD ???" Sounds like he is saying "NOT THAT BAD". Having a hard time making that out myself. :( Not that bad; as in not too much trouble to do or experience. Or is not really a bad experience. What mean "kick over" when starting engine ? It is moment then RPM starting to grow up? "Kick over" is slang and means you're starting an engine and the engine is finally running. Sometimes you will hear someone say... "wait for the engine to kick over." i.e. start the engine and its now running. Or "kick it over"... which means start the engine up so that its running. In this case.. the engine doesn't just start in an instance, so we wait for it to finally be running.

2008 Russo-Georgian War A History of our Causasus Map Video

That was educational. I enjoyed it thanks. :) -
I know that DCS is working on terrain tools and I just want to throw this out there. So in one of those other sim's that shall remain nameless they decided to create an airport tool to allow the community to create their own favorite airports that are close to home. The user community is allowed to use the already existing objects in the game. (i.e. hangars, towers, etc) or import their own. They can then use the tool to add an overlay image of the airport in that spot resize it to fit so that they can go about putting down the taxiways, lights, towers, and to the best of their abilities the hangars (closet match.). After the users were done they could import this into a central database that allowed the users to utilize that airport in game by adding it in individually. Little spotty on my recollection on how they wind up in the final game. This vastly increased the quality (some users are obsessed about replicating them exactly) and quantity of airports in game. I think this idea has merit. But we could probably do a little better for DCS level quality. As in they could exist in two domains like so: A. You can use it from a central location; ie user community downloads area to import into your game. But not all users will have it downloaded. B. If it gets enough up votes and passes the smell test for DCS level quality it could be imported into the game engine.

FOIA applies to your government... not to a corporation that spent their own money on the program. If they had any information sharing with the government... you could FOIA that info and Northrup couldn't stop it. Having worked in the aerospace industry for 17 years. I call it proprietary for a reason. They own all rights to it. They would have to be convinced to release the data (which most likely would require some kind of monetary agreement above and beyond the typical copyright, trade-name license agreement you get for a dcs module.) Though take that with a grain a salt. I'm not a lawyer and don't deal with that kind of crap. Personally I think its hokum that a government funded weapon system program should ever require licensing for a simulator. As long as you don't mention the company that produced it.

Geeze laweeze... I would run away screaming like a little girl if that thing landed on my hand.

So, i managed to make a tank fly in Combined arms.

Tank weapons of the future... had me laughing with tears in my eyes. -
Wasn't the F-20 a proprietary weapon system? Yea just looked it up. Northrup spent their own nickle on it. So the real big problem would be getting info on it at all, as they have it locked away in their vaults. Also I remember talking to someone that worked on it, and they said it has pretty darn short legs because of the F-404 engine.

For people having performance trouble in VR; turn off MSAA.
-
hmmm... I think this needs to be a wishlist feature request to have ATC spit out the appropriate imperial or metric response based on aircraft type.
-
We all want it... and this comes up all the time, but the map would have to be huge because a huge contingent of the runs were made from Thailand. Something like at least this big. I fear someone building it with just a small portion of the map done. That would suck.
-
I imagine most of us here already have that sim... and we really, really want DCS F-16. Especially those of us who now fly VR exclusively.
-
Holy moly; I'm worn out just watching that.
-
Okay in the sim world, as you suggest... no big deal. In the real world... one of my favorite quote about aircraft flying applies. "Aircraft bite fools." Don't remove your options while still on the ground before you ever even get up in the air. Most aircraft accidents follow a chain of events that on the surface are initially pretty benign. Deciding to not follow reserves requirements seems to you to be pretty benign. For experienced pilots that have had things go awry in the sky. Not. Also I wouldn't be out there recommending to pilots not to fly as required. Flying rules and best practices have been learned at the cost of lives.
-
If they don't want to work on four engines... then how about a C27J... the C130's little brother. Well... sorta.

What is this box and how do I get rid of it
aileron replied to aileron's topic in DCS: L-39 Albatros
Thanks will try this later tonight. :) -
So I was watching this video and the pilot says something about flying by the book the mustang is a safe airplane @ 53 seconds in. That its killed a lot of pilots. It got me thinking. What are the differences between the Spitfire and the Mustangs flying characteristics? Is the Spitfire easier to fly? Are they just both quirky in their own ways? Anybody got a good grasp of the differences... couldn't really find anything online.
