Ignoring the genuine feasibility and costs, I was just thinking of a few ideas: - let’s make it nuclear powered to cater for long term power needs - make it float, such that it can land and won’t need enormous new landing strips - electric lift and manoeuvring fans - no flight deck in the traditional sense. It would probably be too dangerous to both deck crew and aircraft. Make it enclosed, say more like Battlestar galactica - with the enclosed flight deck, it would be safer and viable to cruise at say 200-300knots and some clever aerodynamics could provide some lift to assist the fans - aircraft recovery would be more akin to A2A refuelling and say the helicopter clamping system used on Frigates and Destroyers - aircraft launch could be to just drop, almost like pushing cargo out of the back of a Hercules Anyone care to mod this?
  2. Looks like we're about to see an influx of FFB joysticks in the near future. I get the impression that some aircraft modules are in a good state and some could do with some TLC. Anyone got a list of the readiness of FFB by aircraft, such that we can both manage pilot expectations and also see who we should ask for better prioritisation of FFB.
  3. I wouldn't count on that being 10 days post ordering now. My assumption is that they mean 10 days post it being both released and having stock available
  4. Just a thought on this. Someone recently found that the hangar was eating PC resources and could potentially affect performance. They also kindly provided a VR version that is basically just black space, and thus avoids those implications. Sorry, don't have a link to hand.
  5. I hadn't thought about enabling it in BIOS. Doh! For all that I like the idea of have the power draw being catered for by an alternative unit to my PC motherboard.
  6. I've had a QP for nearly a couple of years now. I've recently updated my PC base unit and the new motherboard has a USB-C connection. As you do, I tried hanging the QP off the USB-C for Link purposes. Sure enough, no drops, but after 3 hours, the battery was basically flat. As it happens, I had an Anker 60w powered USB3 hub to hand. Plugged that in and went for another muck about. 3-4 hours later and still has a 70% charge. Also no issues with the data connection. Guess that answers my question about the best method for me to link my QP. Thought that I'd mention it just in case anyone else was wondering about how best to keep a Quest charged.

  8. I built a new PC base unit recently (7800x3d, 64GB ram, NVME gen 4 and added in my existing 3080ti). Post installing Windows, was the usual drivers, config of security (firewalls etc). Then onto DCS, so: physically move the NVME from my old to new PC Move the Saved games folder, and empty the FXO and metashaders folders Apply the VR empty hangar mod Run a repair to rebuild the links Firewall/anti-virus settings to open ports For all of my 12+ USB devices, identify the new Windows ID and apply those IDs to each of my aircraft (so around 600 files to update) Sort out the drivers for two of my USB devices that didn't like Windows 11 (i.e. my external DAC and Jetseat (thanks Andre for helping) Re-configure my VR settings for my Quest Pro Sort out the boot time for my x670e motherboard by changing the MCRU setting from "Auto" to "Enabled" (why have an auto setting that does bugger all) I finally got to the end of the pain at the end of last week, following a good deal of testing. Sat morning, fired everything up. Carrier launch just before dawn in my F14 on the Kola map. Snow blowing over the wet deck. All controls working. Go through my cold start, getting some nice rumbles from my jetseat. Disable the frame rate counter. Wow, now that is both very dark out there and amazingly immersive. External lights on and off to signal for launch. I'm thrown off the deck, outside is just BLACK. Can't see anything outside now I'm off the deck. Clunk, wheels up. Hold speed at 300knots and 750'. Coming up on 5nm, turning to required heading for Wpt1. Nose up, throttles to full mill. Still can't see bugger all. Climb out of clouds at around angels 20, with dawn breaking to my right. Just wow. What an awesome experience. The bit when you finally get to see what all the effort was for.

  9. I have several interior lights mapped to a control panel, eg the interior lighting and console lighting (not on analogue axes). At present, those controls are not working.
  10. I’d be cautious about an AMD GPU. The impression I get is that the Nvidia cards have an advantage in VR when compared to the differences seen with monitors. Personally, I use a cable, but that’s less about data capabilities and more about ensuring that I can keep charging my QP whilst playing, ie if I need to have it cables to prevent eg battery going flat, I might aswell use data link.
  11. Agreed, that video from HIP is really positive. The software looks massively better. After the first set of early previews, I’d put the idea on the back burner. Now, just waiting for actual orders to ship. I’d rather do that than pay upfront only for the shipping to slip
  12. To resolve: - leave your saved games folder as is - copy the folder for the game from its current installed location onto the new drive - run a full repair from within the folder of the new location for the game sorted!
  13. Do you have a video of your last flight in a Spitfire, I’d love to see it? I assumed that you probably would, as I can’t imagine anyone making such an outspoken statement without something go back it up.

  16. LOL. i have a Willans 4 point that came out of a race car. Doesn’t do anything genuinely useful, but I feel that it adds to the immersion.

  19. Cool, thanks for that. One question, which I think you partly alluded to, is about the optimum efficiency, which I assume needs to take into account the jets always running, drag etc. For the Mi24 and Mi8, would you know what those optimum speeds are? I tend to fly at around 200kph, such that I've got some leeway either way. I've no idea if that's the most efficient.
  20. Interesting numbers. Whilst the increase in lift at higher speed makes sense, I'm a little surprised at an increase in the power required by the tail rotor. I would have through that a decrease in lift required would slightly reduce the torque effect of the main blades and that the aero implications of the body of the helicopter would tend to stabilise where it's pointing. Thoughts?
  21. I had my centre mounted stick bolted to my IKEA Poang for a couple of years. Very cheap solution that also happens to be rather comfortable. I’ve since moved to an aluminium profile base with a car seat. Definitely better, but clearly a lot more expensive.
  22. Hoping for some suggestions. My jetseat won't currently power up, i.e. the light on the manual control box that connects into the power cable is off. Have tried a different PSU, no joy. Would I be correct in assuming that it doesn't need USB connection to be working for the jetseat to be powered, and therefore have the light on? Any troubleshooting suggestions?
