Most likely inlet ice. Although ice seems to form in odd conditions in DCS :)

I have F14 and F18. Always loved the 14 for various reasons but honestly, I find myself back in the 18 on DCS for the most part. It maybe because I'm more comfortable in the 18 with more hours but for single pilot operation (Jester is not quite there yet and I don't do multiplayer) I find it much more user friendly. Both great addons but at the moment, If I had to pick one, it would be the F-18C

Quickstart mission for laser Mavericks
Canada_Moose replied to Fisherman82's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Ah, that's why no JTAC listed. This was bugging me! -
You could just use this entire ufc which includes the master caution https://www.buddy-fox.com

Warthog afterburner detent from Shapeways arrived
Canada_Moose replied to sobe's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I printed one in Nylon. Works great. I have the part drawing 3D file if you need it. -

Yeah, same. Would be nice to know what’s going on with this.

Well, I was on the fence with waiting for the Rift S or going with an Odyssey +. The poor specs of the Rift S have pretty much made my mind up. I was hoping for better as I sold my original Rift a few months back.

You haven't read it because it's 'boring'? WTF? If you actually read it you will see that all of your points are adequately addressed and also that increased resolution of monitors in the future would not impact the findings significantly. Nobody is suggesting that targets at close range should be rendered at 2x the size. Look at the graphs supplied in the paper. How in hell can you be so ignorant to dismiss the technical paper if you haven't even read it? Is it because you don't understand it? So 'smart scaling' doesn't work in DCS. Fine. Doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist or should be ignored either.

[KNOWN] Spotting with 4K, Monitor size vs Resolution
Canada_Moose replied to imacken's topic in General Bugs
Sharpe and Zhukov have super human vision apparently. I have 20/18 vision, fly in the real world and have no problem spotting other aircraft in the sky above or below me. In DCS half the time I can’t spot an aircraft that’s supposedly right in front of me. Apparently I’m just a “gamer” that needs to look better. :( I have resorted to unashamedly using dot labels -
Discussed here in lots of detail. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=209219&page=3 Also a paper discussing spotting distance in sims vs reality: http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a414893.pdf Yes, it’s from 2003 but an important quote: "Does the potential application of this technique disappear as technology erases the display resolution hurdle? Arguably, the answer is no, at least for the foreseeable future." "Therefore, until even the least expensive, most portable displays can provide more detail than the human eye needs, this type of visual performance-enhancing method should be useful." And yes, we know ED have said smart scaling won’t work in DCS. Doesn’t mean there isn’t a problem

Agreed
-
I confirm same issue.

I think Wags was saying that SSAA was put in for people who use 1080p resolutions or lower. If you are at 1440p or above you shouldn't be using it. I certainly wouldn't do a combo of SSAA and MSAA.

It depends what kind of missile they fire at you! If you are close range chances are it’s a heat seeker so you need flares. The fact you are getting no launch warning further confirms heat seeker. Chaff and flares are not a “magic bullet” though. You can’t just defeat a missile by popping these.

It may well be an oversimplification and as I said, my experience is all small single engine stuff, but the technique of power for descent control should not be alien to anyone. I’m shocked that there seems to be genuine amazement and it’s some sort of weird thing only the Navy teaches.

Bugs section. Reported as of Friday patch https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=233505

First thing they teach you when you learn to fly in GA is that with landings, pitch controls airspeed, power controls descent rate. It’s really no different in the hornet, except you have the nice e bracket giving you the perfect AOA target. You don’t use pitch to control descent rate in any aircraft I have flown in real life. The only time I have heard this being done is in precision approaches where very small changes in descent rate can be managed with stick / yoke input and an appropriate change in power to compensate. Of course, I only fly Cessna 152 and 172 so ymmv. But really, anyone coming from a flying background should have no issue with the concept of the hornet landing approaches. It’s cerainly not a navy specific thing and is a technique used everyday in flying schools around the world.

[REPORTED] DCS 2.5.4.28090 cross wind causing roll
Canada_Moose replied to vctpil's topic in Bugs and Problems
Perhaps the fly by wire of the hornet doesn’t account for yaw induced roll and ED have adjusted the flight model accordingly. In other words it was wrong before the patch? I don’t know enough about the hornet flight control system to comment further but maybe this has something to do with it. -
[REPORTED] DCS 2.5.4.28090 cross wind causing roll
Canada_Moose replied to vctpil's topic in Bugs and Problems
First thing I noticed after updating. Loaded a freeflight in Gulf and instant roll to the left. -
It looks much better my end recently. Perhaps it was updated?
-
Same here
-
Lol, but don't know where you got your info from. I ran a stock Pentium III out of the box at 933mhz in 2001
-
Yes, this works. The point being is that its not what was advertised in the video provided by Wags.

APU Switch with warthog throttle.
Canada_Moose replied to neruZ193's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
You don't need to use Target for the APU switch. Its assignable as a 'special for joystick' control under the DCS controls menu. The command is "APU Control Sw" I have it assigned on my warthog and works fine.
