  1. Land behind a hilltop in a middle of a combat sortie and reload them xD Would be neat, but i highly doubt we'll see anything like that in DCS
  2. I suppose you could make a case for each of the items you've listed, and you do make a good point against NVG's on the Mi-24. And yes, it is a slippery slope, i agree with that. I don't want to start a heated argument, so i'll cut it here. Sufficed to say our opinions differ.
  3. While i agree that realism of the NVG's in the Hind is questionable, i don't think the addition of the NVG would be a bad choice game design wise. If you take a look at the Mi-8 (or any helicopter, really), it comes with NVG's, despite being an older design (in the Hip's case). The very same points could be made against NVG's on the Hip, and they are valid points, however, there is an alternative. You could just not use them if you want a more realistic setup. I do think that giving players the option to have them would be good. Having the ability to disable NVG's from the ME would also be a great addition. Just my 2 cents.
  4. I hope they'll do it as well. It'd be the only heli without them Source: https://stormbirds.blog/2021/01/09/new-dcs-mi-24p-information-translated-from-russian-interview/
  5. Damage to ground units in general is off by a wide margin I've seen Abrams tanks take a C-802 AKG (150+ Kg's warheads) to the front armor and live without taking any damage whatsoever, but at the same time, an Sa-19 Tunguska can kill an Abrams (admittedly from the back) with 2 of it's missiles (9kg warheads) Not to mention ships... Point being, ground unit damage models are a bit scuffed in general at the moment, and that's on ED
  6. It wouldnt, but the B's cam has more zoom, making it easier to acquire targets at range (but more difficult to find them with the seeker alone)
  7. If everything is buffed, nothing is(?) While i agree that on paper the ship damage model and Rb-15 damage are way overperforming (which leads to proper values on the harpoon dealing negligible damage) , when an Rb-15 hits a ship, it delivers the intended effect. It kills the ship. I don't want to start a huge argument/shitshow here, so i m gonna call it good here. Just wanted to counter the "Anti-ship isnt fun in DCS" claim. It's not on the Hornet, and i agree with that, but Viggen has it pretty good You could argue the Mav is usable against small boats, but other than that, yeah, it only really has the 2 anti ship missile types
  8. There's a french server, based around search and rescue and firefighting it's called "Search and Rescue" if i remember correctly, and has a pretty good simulation of fire spreading, and quite a few options for SAR flights No combat is included, but it's still pretty fun
  9. Rb-15F Disagrees. Amazing missile, capable of striking even fleet carriers, and killing them in a few hits Harpoon is pretty shit tho, it's essentially useless right now, even if it hits
  10. AWG-9 does seem to autohook (what seems to be) the highest priority target sometimes, but i m not sure if it's correct behavior, or what triggers it.
  11. True that Just chucking out an idea
  12. Would be sweet, but i highly doubt we will Introduction of Mirage F-1 and MiG-23 will shake up the cold war setting quite a bit tho A semi-historical scenario set in the Iran-Iraq war, with the MiG-21, MiG-23 and Mirage F-1 on the Iraqi side, vs F-5's and Tomcats and maybe some day F-4's on the Iranian side would be interesting (tho Phoenix would probably have to be removed for the sake of balancing)
  13. Yes, Heatblur have already confirmed that there will be 2 more Tomcat variants coming out No ETA on their arrival as of yet AFAIK. Quote from this update, on upcoming variants: https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/252101-dcs-f-14-development-update-enter-the-a/
  14. There is a helicopter that can contact AWACS The Sa 342 Gazelle Mistral In other helicopters (Aside from the Ka-50) the AWACS menu is replaced by the troop transport menu (F7 key), so you'd have to choose if you want AWACS or troops, since the Mi-24 has a troop compartment
  15. "Q: How many missiles can it take? A: Two, four, six or eight. Two people [including yours truly, on the forums!] asked for the ability to load a single missile on each rack but I’m against that idea. It’s not worth the programmer’s time just to simulate specific exotic loadouts from Afghanistan or Syria." Quote from this translated interview with one of the Hind devs https://stormbirds.blog/2021/01/09/new-dcs-mi-24p-information-translated-from-russian-interview/
  16. It's a mixed bag You do have a complex on board computer (CK37), which demands some attention before flight, and a lot more depending on which weapon you want to employ. If you want the simplicity of selecting a weapon and pressing the trigger to fire it, you can forget it. The weapon selection itself can be confusing at times, not to mention the fact that many weapons cannot be taken simultaneously. When it comes to flying, it's a very manual machine, only having autopilot modes for attitude, altitude and landing modes. Otherwise, it absolutely needs elevator trim, and flies a lot like other planes from the era, but with more speeeed Oh, and yeah. It will absolutely rip the wings if you pull too much G (sudden 9+, gradual 10+) You can basically outrun anything you want on the deck, with a clean plane, or light stores. System management is another story. It's not as intensive as the A-10C, but it's a lot more than the F-5. At the very least, you have to enter the cartridge load code (9099) in the correct computer mode. It's very confusing at 1st, but once you get used to it, it's not that difficult. It gives you many options, but the CK37 input interface scares many people. I highly recommend you look into the viggen weapon capabilities, as well as the CK-37 input codes and usage before making your decision Addendum: The missions the viggen can execute are limited. It's a platform made for a quick precision strike. Get in, drop everything, and get out. It's not meant to loiter around the frontline, taking out dozens of tanks , like the A-10, it's meant for attacking quickly, flying along a pre-planned route, and giving the enemy a 10 second window to react, and then skeddadeling like mad. It can also do CAP in a cold war setting, with 6x AIM-9 missiles Cheers!
  17. Let's just agree to disagree, and enjoy the game the way we want to It's a sim, and i take it as such You do have a point tho, it is a game, and you can change it to your hearts content Those screenshots still hurt my eyes
  18. Well, the problem i have with the DCS screenshots, is the airframes we have in game, never carried those payloads in combat The Tomcat ended up getting the LANTIRN instead of the AMRAAM, so the 120 was never fielded on the 14. Some tests were made, but ended up going nowhere The F-16 and F-15... I guess if you want to pretend you're flying a later variant, that's ok, but i just don't like it Not that my opinion should stop you from enjoying yourself, but those screenshots do hurt my eyes
  19. There's 2 ways to adjust the radar elevation in the Tomcat 1st: Rough - Radar elevation knob. It will give you all the range of the antenna elevation, but is very sensitive 2nd: Fine - HCU Thumb wheel does fine antenna elevation adjustments, and is what you'll probably want to use majority of the time. It can only adjust a few degrees of elevation tho. Cheers
  20. This hurts my eyes
  21. You both are correct The MiG-21 ground crew will not equip double R-60 racks on neighboring pylons as long as they are the same R-60 type (I.e. No 4 R-60 under 1 wing, no 4 R-60M under one wing). You can however equip a single R-60 on the leftover pylon, for 3 R-60 under one wing, and total of 6 However, if you tell the ground crew to equip different R-60 types, you can get away with 2 R-60 + 2 R-60M under one wing, giving a total of 8 R-60's It's worth noting that the R-60M is not available to the MiG-21 on this server, so the most you can carry, is 6. However, the game can allow for more
  22. You can maybe find some people here, on the Tomcat Alley Discord https://discord.gg/eBRCzTtV7U the link is set to never expite btw, if someone's found this in the future I'd still recommend finding a friend instead of a stranger. Oh, and know your plane. It sucks to be let down by your crewm8
  23. The best thing you can do for your F-14 BVR game, is get a human RIO who knows what they're doing Makes it so much better As for specific tactics, it all depends on the situation. Noctrach summed it up pretty well What me and my pilot like to do, is play high altitude, high speed (angels 35+, mach 1+) long range (50+ miles) shots, and then F-pole. The AMRAAM will not reach you at 50nm, so you have some time to guide the missile in. It usually hits when the bandit is some 30nm away. Close enough for a long range (high alt, high speed) 120 shot, but with no platform supporting it, it's not a huge threat. AIM-54A Mk60 is a bit better for this role, as a high altitude bandit is unlikely to enter a notch in the 15 seconds between pitbull and splash, and the extra thrust does make a big difference at 70k feet the missile lofts to. You can play low altitude sneak and/or notch tactics, but it's not the Tomcat's ideal environment. There's planes that do it better. For that role, the AIM-54C should be better, as the range doesn't matter that much, but notch and chaff resistance helps immensely
  24. What made the red fleet indestructible? Yes, it was a difficult target to hit, but any ship in DCS will eventually succumb to the Rb-15F if enough if it is thrown at the ship (simultaneously), AND they are configured correctly, so ships SAM doesnt engage them And didn't everyone on blue start all the way back on the same airbase the viggens did? the AJS does have the range to reach those ships. You're just gonna have to be a bit economic in your fuel managment Don't make me laugh Tolovay Yes, it was a tall order Yes, you should've had escorts No, it wasnt impossible
