For the consumer market I agree. (and overall, I really like it) There will be higher end tethered headsets for professional settings for awhile though. I'm seriously considering a Quest right now to replace my CV1. From what I'm reading, it will still be a bump up in quality using Link from the CV1, somewhere between the CV1 and RiftS. But given how much I enjoy some other games (Beatsaber!) being able to go full wireless, AND take it with me, I'm willing to take a small hit in quality compared to the Rift S to get that mobility.

I'm not banking on any improvement in terms of FPS, but probably more stable FPS / fewer stutters as things are spread across more cores.

Do your research before buying. The quest works with DCS, but yes you need a cable, and a pc that can handle dcs in VR. I'd say no lower than a GTX 1080 and a 4ghz processor for a good experience.

So any CV1 / RiftS users using this... really trying to make a decision. I have the CV1, and am mostly happy. My dad has the RiftS, and while yes, it is clearer, it's not such a huge improvement that I'm keen to spend 400$ on it. But, if the Quest can net a *slight* visual improvement, while simultaneously granting me portability...that's mighty tempting. I'm just wondering how it fares compared to the CV1 in DCS overall, seems to me that USB 3.1 couldn't have quite enough bandwidth to do a good enough job...

I'm in the boat of living the pilot interface of the F-18 more than the F-16 too, but I really need more time in the Viper to break that bias. One of my hurdles is I'm a VR only pilot, and the MFDs in the Hornet are *much* easier to read than the Vipers. Maybe if I get a RiftS it would be better, but keeping my CV1 for now.

I'm officially GPU bottlenecked...
A2597 replied to A2597's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I actually have pretty acceptable performance in VR. usually 40s on ground, higher in air at 1.5PD, wish I could up some more features, but I find it acceptable. :) -
Just upgraded my Ryzen 5 1600 for a Ryzen 5 3600 with new RAM. Before, CPU bottlenecked. Now, my GTX 1080 is a solid 100% usage in DCS. Sadly, not much of a performance gain, a few frames, but nothing major. I can't justify a 1080ti, let alone a 2080ti, things are just too expensive ($1,100?!?). So, guess I'll enjoy what I have and join the ranks hoping that Vulcan brings some impossible gains in performance. :)

Growing up I hated the F18, loved the F-16. I purchased the F-18 simply because it was the closest thing to an F-16 in DCS at the time. Playing DCS has totally reversed that option. F-18 is an awesome plane, and I highly recommend it. I'll admit I'm an F-16 novice, but any time I find time to fly, I tend towards the F-18 now. Just a joy to fly and use.

HEADQUARTERS - massively improved fast mission generator

his last commit is less than a month ago (so he hasn't worked on it in a month). Hopefully close to a new release! -
Hmm...between that, the new sensors, and a possible paddle switch...why buy a VIRPL? haha

I'm pretty certain it was backwards compatible, I had a brief moment where I had the new board with old potentiometers, and it was reading them.

Got my board and sensors,(Christmas present from my wife!) had a couple issues getting them installed and set up, but rel4y was super quick at responding and walking me through everything I needed help with! Just, wow...what a difference! Finally got to hop in the cockpit and do a couple traps in the hornet, so smooth. the smallest movements are picked up, never seen the in game stick move so smoothly. (I admit, I sat there moving the fighterstick and watching the ingame stick moving for a moment, never really noticed how much of a range difference there was until it picked up super tiny movements and translated them to the in game stick!) Now I have to try AA Refueling, something I've deemed near impossible with the CH Fighterstick before in the Hornet. (Managed with the viper just fine though). The new sensors and board are great, thank you!

Pilots that both F16 & F18 using Warthog HOTAS
A2597 replied to kmaultsby's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I map as accurately as possible to the real plane. On the F-18 that means I have an extra hat, which I use for knee-board open/close/page forward/page back. And yes, the switch is occasionally jarring. Muscle memory is a real thing. LOL I actually feel the F-18 Hotas controls are far superior to the F-16, but part of that is because I learned the F-18 first. -
Annnd... I'm on vacation, so no tomcat for me. Enjoy guys! Glad to see another free weekend!

That's because the rift is literally moving lenses left and right, the other is just how far apart the left and right eye are rendered.

I may have to pick up a quest in the near(ish) future. Kinda out of stock everywhere right now. And I have no cash. LOL

Similar question for those with a CV1 vs Quest. Been pondering the Rift S, but I do love some beatsaber, and the mobility of the quest sounds amazing. But would really want DCS to be at least as good as on the CV1 before jumping.

are there any plans to try and add an EFM for the A4?
-
Never had an issue, but also dont have any ch software installed. Just map in game, and all works as expected.

Looking great! Can't wait to fly this one!

What's your control setup like? That can play a large role in it I found. I found I too apply some forward stick to keep it level, and yes I'm always on the throttle during the approach.

This is looking really good! Can't wait for this one.

on the flip side, that means I could buy a VKB base and the F-16 grip and be happy. (if I ever move on from my CH Fighterstick)
