I just edited my post to make it more clear, but yeah I do think the OP is correct in saying the current state of this function is not accurate.
-
I thought this had previously been confirmed as correct, but according to JDAM Tactical Manual for the F/A-18C/D (rule 1.16, look it up for yourself), the current way it functions is not realistic, or perhaps I am just misinterpreting the document. It states that boxing a JDAM on the STORES format powers on all JDAMs loaded on the aircraft and begins alignment. Power continues to be applied to all JDAMs until they are all deselected. They are only deselected when they are explicitly unboxed, selecting a different weapons station or changing the master mode will make the JDAMs background-selected. While background-selected, power is still applied and transfer alignment continues to all JDAMs. Hopefully there is an unclassified source that can confirm this so that ED can implement the background-select functionality.

Have you tried manually deleting the OpenBeta and redownloading the client instead of trying to do these through the launcher?

I believe it is correct as is, Hornet does not automatically adjust trim for asymmetric loads.

DCS: F-16CM Block 50 by EDSA Discussion Thread
_mu110_ replied to NineLine's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I believe the Greeks have a mixture of Blk 30, 50, and 52, but I don't know whether their 50 is identical to ours. Turks have also block 30, 40 and 50, with the older 30s updated to CCIP. Again, not sure if theirs is exactly the same as ours. -
What HOTAS are you using? I had an issue with my Thrustmaster Warthog where the sensor for the dial I used for my zoom axis was broken and behaved just how you describe. Hopefully your issue is something less serious.

I'd suggest the Hornet, while it does have many different digital systems to learn that you can get really deep into, simply flying the aircraft itself is going to be a breeze if you're already proficient at handling the P-51. All the different pages available for the three different cockpit displays might seem daunting at first, but getting the basics down (such as dropping dumb bombs, basic A/A engagements, etc) is not overly complex IMO. There are a ton of great official and third party tutorials and guides available online that can help you master the Hornet. I'd also make sure that your throttle and stick have enough buttons to map all of the F/A-18's HOTAS functions to as this will greatly increase your efficiency while flying it. If you're worried about jumping straight from a warbird to a fully featured jet and want to ease yourself in you could also try learning the F-15 first. Since it's a Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft it has no clickable cockpit and it's systems are very much simplified, but it can teach you a lot about A/A and will help you get acclimated to things systems like the RWR, HUD, radar display, etc. Unfortunately it lacks any A/G capability, so you might consider purchasing the whole FC3 bundle as you'll get a bunch of other 4th gen aircraft that can also take the fight to the ground. The free Su-25T will also definitely get the job done if you just want to learn the basics of A/G combat like CCIP/CCRP bombing, rocket and guns employment, and even SEAD.

I tend to use pretty similar settings, and also have a third set up with longer intervals dispensing both chaff and flare that runs for about 10-15 seconds. I find this very useful when making an attack run where you don't necessarily have the ability to be constantly looking all around you for any IR/AAA threats and want a program running the entire time that you don't have to worry about. I do think dispensing two flares at once would be more effective, not because it would somehow mimic the twin engines but rather that it simply puts out more heat sources faster. Once we have the updated countermeasure dispensers with increased capacity, our Hornet will be a lot more capable of defending itself, as it stands right now I have to use chaff and flares conservatively if I want to make sure I don't run out before my mission is complete.

This would probably be more of a DCS feature rather than specifically a Hornet one as I don't believe any other modules that have this capability already. Obviously this should be among the last things added if it even gets that far since I can't imagine many people (myself included) getting much use out of it. I'm just putting this out there for the sake of completeness since I hadn't seen anything about this before. If the Legacy Hornet can do it in real life, I feel like it should be considered as an addition to the sim at some point.

As I understand it, MIDS refers to JTIDS compatible radio equipment sending TADIL-J messages which the aircraft translates into info on a display. Link-16 is used when referring to the entire system as a whole, but I believe NATO has different definitions for these terms.

This should definitely be added.

DCS: F-16CM Block 50 by EDSA Discussion Thread

If we all pool our money we could probably buy one and take turns :) -
It would be very useful if the "Hidden on Planner" option in the Mission Editor would also hide the selected air defense units on the SA page. Currently only "Hidden on Map" does this, but having the same functionality for the planner option would make it much easier to work on missions in which the player will be flying without the threat rings since you can edit the SAM unit more easily than if it was hidden entirely. If the intention is to hide information from the player by making it invisible in the mission planner I think it also makes sense to do the same in the cockpit.

Not entirely certain if this is intended behavior or not, but decentering the HSI while using the Harpoon hides all the missile symbol from the display until it is re-centered. harpoon hsi bug.trk

Option to bind weapon release and trigger to one button
_mu110_ replied to Alfredson007's topic in Wish List
I think you'll have to do this with something like AutoHotkey or whatever software you use for your particular joystick. Since there are situations where the both the trigger and pickle buttons are active and each have a different function (selecting gun and munitions in A/G or firing the laser with trigger in A/G mode), I probably wouldn't get my hopes up too much about ED adding it in as a binding option. -
You’re not wrong, but it’s just something that I hadn’t seen anyone mention before and I feel like our Hornet should be as complete as possible.
-
Only real purpose would be for aesthetics (ie taking pictures) and for completeness sake. I agree that this is by no means a priority or something that's even that useful, just a feature that I'd like to see added at some point.

Would be nice to eventually be able to load the captive training HARM. I believe our version of the Hornet can only carry CATM-88C, not the B version.

Adding the flag?
-
It seems like the SA-2 is not included in the expected filters in TOO mode. It only shows up in the HOS class and then PRI once it locks you up, but I believe it should also show up in the H1 filter since it's a first generation SAM. HARM TOO bug.trk

I had this issue too, I was able to fix it pretty easily by updating the NAV system after the normal cold start procedure. First you need to make sure your TACAN is turned on and is tuned to a channel, for example Nellis is at 12X. Next on the HSI select UPDT, then choose TCN, and then ACPT. From there everything works as usual.

In my mission I have some SEAD aircraft that take out some SAM sites and would like them to then loiter above the target area to engage any pop up threats. However, after they destroy their assigned SAM they quickly head to the deck and start engaging AAA sites, which I do not want them to do. Is there any way to control what kinds of surface to air threats they engage as there is with the "Search then engage" task? Thanks, mu110
