Might want to check out VAICOM pro with the AIRIO extension. I got it right away with the Tomcat module and never saw the jester wheel. Granted, another steep learning curve to learn the phraseology, but you are able to put your own. It feels just more natural talking to jester, than to go thru the jester wheel. Might stop here for a second, and zip thrue the video for some examples of talking to jester https://youtu.be/serAX-rrFgI Button missing in the Rio pit is normally a sign of mission not started. Might be some other bug as well, but never had it. Hope you did put dcs on a ssd, which should help immensely, not only with the F-14 but with the game in general.

What is unfinished? I'm no expert but I guess 95%are done. There is some cosmetics, some basics like the correct engine instrument, functionalities like obd / test modes and other little stuff missing, but for me nothing game breaking. Jester can be a pain in the butt, but most of the times are the (real life) limitations of the 60s system which make one think he screwed up. Flight model overhaul is in the works, but the problem, as I understand, is mostly about drag in different alts which does slow her down more then in real life and some tweaking at the edge of the envelope. She isoa little sticky on the ground, reminiscent to the fact that the planes - not only the Tomcat - were sliding off the carrier. You are expecting something complete different then the early - analog - birds are able to deliver. Look around in the forum, there are real life Tomcat driver which tell you the thing is (as close as it gets in a simulator) spot on (-minus the above mentioned hick ups in the FM). These analog planes want to be controlled every second, which is tiring, granted. But ask the real guys, that's the way it is. Try warbirds and then come back and you will think the Tomcat is on rails. After a pretty steep learning curve the F-14 is fun, except for the fact that she tries to kill you as soon as you don't pay attention and being too long into the cockpit without paying attention to the instruments. Did I tell you that it is fun? It is... The weathered look, OK, starting with the bird it's a pain in the butt, I admit that. I had me a mod installed with clear labels, but being back to the original now since there is no need any more for reading them. For the backseat, what is actually missing, besides all the obd stuff? Everything that is needed for employing the Tomcat is there and functional, at least in a state where it doesn't have to hide behind other products, in many cases exceeding them. Missing / non functional stuff doesn't work in dcs anyway beyond a very basic level e.g the IFF / ECCM settings etc. Look around on YouTube, find a guy /gal you trust, and let them explain that module to you and how to fly it. Yes it's not easy to fly if you get her close to the edge of the envelope and for sure it's more work as in the electric jets, but that's the way it was and that's why many love the old, analog planes.
-
Nope This is one of (for me - the) best modules. Yes, there are a couple of bugs, like with every module, but I love that thing. If you want a smooth ride, choose one of the electric jets. For me, I get bored in these things and missing something if it is not shake, rattle and rolling.

Hmmm, I was able to pull back my head in the same situation with ease. With the first sign of clipping stop what you do and move in the exact opposite direction

Nice...could not be without Vaicom

I know from the SAM System I used to work with, flying 70m in a helicopter gave me sufficient time to get a coffee and ruin someone's day after that. Usually helos are a hard target for a SAM System, but you have to fly in accordance. We used to be "scared" of helos and hoped the AAA was staying sharp.

Airspeed callouts only happen during BFM, if merged. During landing he will give you alt calls, but nothing during take offs. For the Rio tutorial, as above said, you have to wait for the two Tomcat to take off. If you give jester the startup command, he will do the ICS check, tell you to start the engines and after he is done with his shit to be ready to taxi. Not very talkative during startup..... which will change to a degree during flight, where you sometimes will consider to turn off the ICS. You can do also a assisted startup, where he talks you thru the checklist. I did that a lot in the beginning to not forget anything. Nothing you would do for a quick hop though.

VRK - a virtual reality enabled kneeboard with touch and ink support
Lt_Jaeger replied to AMVI_Rider's topic in DCS Modding
I'm fighting with big performance issues as well. VRK works in a somewhat cramped scenario quiet well until something happens. This something can be a radio call, a command I'm giving to Jester etc. Then stutterfest happens. I got one of the buttons mapped to hide vrk, which immediately restores performance. I watched task manager and it seems that stuff is written into the normal ram during the bad performance happens. I see some copy activity in the Nvidia panel while my 12GB of Vram being kept full. After that copy action completed, performance is most of the time back. All in all only 0.6 GB of shared ram is used. Checked all over the net to find a solution, to no joy. -
Bummer

The trim switch is not clickable in the moment, you are right. Currently you need to bind a key / button (or rather two) in the setup.

Patriot STR doesn't work properly
Lt_Jaeger replied to Lukas2438's topic in Ground AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Nah, you got a PTL and a STL and that is it. You have to make sure the launches are in a certain area for the MSL being able to hit a "acquisition" window. That's the reason why you won't employ a lone Battery. In this regards the Russian systems are way better and supposed to be operating as you want the system to work, but they launch their msl straight up, which makes it easy easier to bring them into the "tracking window" -
requested Proposal for VR head limits implementation
Lt_Jaeger replied to kablamoman's topic in DCS Core Wish List
How comes you think you know what the majority wants? The majority is on pancake and think vr is a voodoo which gives, especially since you are able to stand up in mid game and look what's behind you (just wish my arms would be longer so I could make use of that cheat mode (ironic)), an unfair advantage. The majority doesn't know what you are talking about. I even doubt that the majority of vr players had issues with the fact that you, if you really want, are able to stick their head out of the window.. There you go, you found the solution. Congratulations And again, bullseye. Just keep your head in the virtual airframe. -

Lt_Jaeger replied to kablamoman's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Like I said, if you WANT to cheat, it is possible, for me, I have enough self control to NOT stick my head out of the cockpit, even in a 109. Might be an age thing, but I prefer a sore neck to being an a.. to myself. Once in a while, I admit, I stick my head deliberately out of the canopy to admire the flames coming out of the exhaust ports of my 605, but that's about it. Took me a very long time to even figure out that it is possible to do so. Don't fix stuff that ain't broken, better give me more fps. -
Noch nicht. Derzeit nutzt sie nur die AI
-
I hope to use the current state of VR for a long time to come - except, of course, for a performance update. Yes, I fly usually my spacious Tomcat and thus have no problem of sticking the head out of the window, but even in my beloved 109 it won't happen. Why? Because I don't cheat myself. To the contrary, I even make it harder for me and try to operate every switch manually, so no hotas with buttons which weren't on the real thing (exept a few necessary exceptions), I cuss because I can't find the bad guy on my 6 due to stuff in my field of view, I'm soaked after a dogfight, because I move as much around as I would (most probably) in the real thing, I have a sore neck for quiet a while, because I'm getting older and are not as flexible in my neck any more, I go thrue every pain and get shot out of the sky because I don't cheat intentionally, no, not on the other guys / AI, I don't cheat on me, too not loose that immersion that keeps me for hours in the pit and enjoying every second. I don't enjoy that other ww2 sim, where suddenly my whole plane moves with my head for me just bending forward to look at the gauges, but I learned that this would be switchable, I just have to check it. So, better keep my vr dream the way it is now and start to learn not to cheat on yourself.

As of lately (don't know when exactly it happened), if I use the Jester - set target size ... command in ARIO, I get a weird result. Jester acknowledges and starts to flip thru the steerpoints, but don't set the switch in accordance. Anyone else ?

Hmmm....in my part of the world it is a weekend.

Feedback after finishing the campaign
Lt_Jaeger replied to tsgucci's topic in F-14A Fear the Bones Campaign
I agree with OP in all regards, especially in the last remark, you NEED to do a F-14 B campaign. So get on it -
I never thought much about it . There were reports about fighters and a flight of F-14 engaging them and then there was that wall of planes coming in. Without much thought I found the radar/link picture kinda clear who was who.

You won the smartass contest, Sir. Glad to have you here, too get us straighten out. I'm a (former) GBAD guy (in my country air force (there I am, start shooting at the airforce losers is taking care of that) and have totally different terms for the stuff you mentioned. Figured out very soon in my career that Aircrews and GBAD guys, even so they speak the same language, have a totally different vocabulary. That helped me to get to better terms during times we had to work together to write some books, even so it took a lot of constant effort to ensure we are still on the same page. So please, keep up the tiring work of setting the vocabulary straight and also straighten out the somewhat "romantic" picture we wannabees have of the 3rd dimension, even so I should know better. I blame it on the time passing and me getting an old fart....

Think size, think closing speed, think msls (at least the ones I know) are fitted with proximity Fuze to make sure there is no need for a direct hit. For the patriot the developed a dedicated msl to intercept msl (even so it is even more challenging from the ground up. After all, DCS is still a game with simulation tidbit included
