I can assure you, that i had a phonecall with my local customs office to ask them how taxes are going to be handled. The official told me twice to check if the electronic device has a CE certification, because otherwise it will be confiscated if the shipment is checked by customs. He said it is illegal to ship it to the EEA. The risk is low, as customs propably check only 5-10% of all shipments, but if they do... well the risk is there. Mine arrived and i haven't heard of anyone having trouble, but someone will be number one. This is the reason why even Virpil has a CE certification and propably the reason, why Winwing has trouble finding a european partner/reseller. They told they would do so, but nothing realy happend. Don't get me wrong, the throttle is absolutely nice and the best i've ever had. But ordering is a risk for european buyers. Cheers

So i just recieved my Throttle and it's a great piece of equipment. Shipping was fast, 6 days from China to Germany. My only gripe is, that it does not have a CE certification wich is mandatory for electronic devices in the EU. Electronic devices without CE certificate are illegal to import, sell and operate within the european union. If the shipment gets checked by national customs, it will be confiscated. European buyers should be aware of that risk. The device is from outstanding quality and i doubt that there will be any issues. But the fact, that there hasn't been a single reviewer mentioning this major issue with WinWing, is very dissapointing. And their products beeing illegal in europe, IS a major issue IMO. Cheers

OPERATION CAGE THE BEAR (F/A-18C HORNET CAMPAIGN)
VpR81 replied to kaba's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Just installed the campaign and did mission 1-4 in a row, no issues so far. The campaign is absolutely great. Not too easy and not too difficult, perfect for a chilled singleplayer evening. Well done, Sir! cheers -

Thanks a lot for the input, glad to hear you guys are satisfied with the WW throttle. Restock was announced for Sept. 15th, but somehow was already today in stock. So i just ordered it, now waiting begins. Price was 642$/568€ incl. shipping. Our govt. reduced VAT. from 19% down to 16% due to the covid-19 pandemic, so maybe at least a small discount. Ah btw. the tin foil hat isn't realy a proper solution for me, as it only helps with WLAN and i'm using a wired connection. :D Cheers

F-14A on the 19th? *wink, wink, nudge nudge*
VpR81 replied to Southernbear's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Oh yes, that's realy a good one. My all time favorite is Oban 14, but just opened a "one of 261 bottles" Glen Keith 20 last weekend. Shame on me, i know. But i don't regret. As for the Tomcat, i'm realy looking forward to the A-Model and the Forrestal. Keep up the great work HB! -
I'd love to see Scandinavia after Syria is finished. Pretty much the same map we had in EF2000 back in the mid 90's, bombing barrages at the russian border was so much fun. I think that map would perfectly suit for WW2, cold war and modern warfare at the same time and would also provide enough waters for some nice carrier operations...

Hello dear virtual pilots, So after a lot of planning and thinking about how to possibly mount the WW throttle to my simrig, i'm about to replace my WH throttle and finaly pull the trigger on that promising piece of hardware next month (restock for the standalone throttle is announced for the 15th of september). Still i have a few doubts about it and the company behind, wich lead me to ask a few questions to ppl that already own the WW throttle. First of all, how is the WW customer support if anything goes south? Is it reasonable, or questionable? IMO, great quality cannot exist without excellent customer support so i rate this point very, very important. If anyone of you had to contact WW, i'd be highly interested in the result... I also have concerns about the SimAppPro software. Is it necessary to be installed? I've read something about the software connecting to a server in china (totally unnecessary IMO, so highly suspicious), but can be uninstalled after setting up the backlighting. Can anyone confirm that? No offense, but i don't want to install chinese intelligence service spyware, covered as ordinary user software. Did your anti virus software detect SimAppPro and rate it to be dangerous? How does the throttle work after SimAppPro has been shredded? Any issues? All i've read/heard about quality is, that it is excellent (except for the Recce button on the stick, but since i'm not interested in the stick i dont care about it's flaws). Only issue with that is, that those statements all came from reviews and first impressions. Can anyone tell me about long term experience? Well it's not that long ago it was released, but you know what i mean: Does the throttle friction wear out? The slew control seems to be better than the crappy Warthog stock SC, but is it realy better? Is it usable (unlike the Warthogs)? Same for radar antenna elevation. Is it reasonable? Any of the backlights failing? Long story short, is there anything that made you regret/question your purchase? Friction control. Reviewers mentioned that the friction control is also an analog axis, but they all got a pre-serial version that saw some adjustments prior to enter serial production. Is that still true for the final version? If so, i'm sure i can live with it, but would propably be a bit annoyed if there is a redesigned version in the nearby future. Also saw something about the locking system of the throttle handles. It seems to be not too practical and that there are tools needed to lock/unlock them. Is it realy that much of an issue, or is the amount of work exaggerated by reviewers? I never use autostart, so i'm highly interested about how this works during startup procedure. Is it doable? Apologies for those rather stupid questions. I know there is no perfect flight control for private customers and they all got their flaws more or less. But going to spend ~600€ + VAT + shipping for "just" a throttle, i want to make sure i'm going to be fully satisfied. With best regards, Daniel

I have the TM TPR rudder pedals and despite the price, i'm very happy with them. The only significant issue IMO is, that these are not suited for under a desk use due to the pendular system and the angle of the pedals. I used them under a desk for like 6 months and it was a pain, absolutely not recommended. Now that i have them installed in a simrig with very low seat height, they're a dream to use. The springs are a bit soft, but they can easily be reinforced with a few rubber bands. A cheap and very effective mod i learned about here in the forum. Own them for about 2 years now and no issues so far. Cheers

Dumb question, but are you aware that A/A missiles in the Hornet are released by pulling the trigger instead of Pickle/weapon release button? I guess you're already in A/A mode as you are getting a "shoot" message on your HUD, but is master arm set to "arm"? Also, does the trigger on your stick work/is your trigger input recognised by DCS (check control settings)? Maybe check if your trigger is mapped to 2nd trigger detent only and not to anything else in tandem.

Never ever use engine oil for anything else than filling it into an engine! NEVER! Especially not for greasing something you're going to touch with your bare hands! Although fresh engine oil isn't marked as toxic, you will suffer signs of intoxication pretty fast after this stuff enters your body (nausea, bellyache, vomiting, etc.). Also engine oil can cause cancer and pneumonia. Again, never use it to lube something you are going to touch afterwards. Never! Use Nyogel 767a for your flight controls and you'll be fine.

Thanks a lot for that link, i've been looking for something like this for some time as well. This is much appreciated. But are you sure on the inner dimension beeing 32mm? Because, according to the drawing, the outer measure is 34mm what would mean the plates are only 1mm strong, wich is very weak. In fact weaker than the housing of my WarBRD base. Compared to the threads beeing M5, the plates look more as if they are 3-4mm strong. If the measures on the image are correct, the inner dimension would rather be 26-28mm than 32mm... Cheers

I'm totaly aware of that. And on the dogfight servers i join, BFM/ACM does in fact only start after you passed the other guy. Still, doesen't change the fact, that full sphere/over the shoulder capability is a significant game changer in a dogfight. There is a good reason why most of the next gen SRMs (AAM-5, A-Darter, Python-5, IRIS-T) contain this feature. As for CM resistance... All these modern SRM's have equal, or even better CM resistance to the 9X. So the IRIS-T will most likely be very diffcult to decoy. Also i assume that it is very hard to spot a over-the-shoulder launch with a smoke free engine while the missile going off to the opposite direction during the first 1 or 2 seconds. Facing a modern full sphere SRM, i think you'd have to pre-flare permanently if you want to have a chance to decoy it. Also if one believes (and there are a lot doing so) the 9X is the top notch of SRMs, one propably won't pre-flare as he won't expect (can't imagine) his enemy to launch a missile at him in this position. At least when facing such a SRM for the first tiime... Another thing is the IRIS-Ts capability of beeing used as hard kill protection system, capable of destroying incoming AAMs and SAMs. The IRIS-T has a extreme low minimum range (like all modern SRMs) and it's seeker head can be slaved to the typhoons missile detection system and, if i recall that correct, can also lock onto targets via RWR. Other missiles as well as aircrafts. So the pilot does not even need to look back in order to perform a over-the-shoulder shot at a target on his six using radar. This will make the Typhoon a very dangerous target to lock on to, and way more difficult to destroy than other aircrafts in DCS. You don't realy want to tell me, that this missile won't be a game changer in DCS dogfights? Do you? Assuming it's modeled accurate, it will be a significant advantage over the 9X. Like it or not. It's almost like you believe the 9X could equal the SRMs named above and as if the germans, israelis, the japanese and some others developed full sphere capability SRMs just for fun. You believe that stuff on Raytheon's homepage saying the AIM-9X beeing the most advanced IR SRM worldwide? While even the Block II variant is still limited to 90° off boresight and lacks hard kill mode capability? Please...At all parameters, the 9X is wether equal to other newer SRMs, or simply outperformed by them. IIRC there is not a single parameter the 9X has an advantage over other advanced SRMs. It's been a while ago when i searched for informations about these missiles, so correct me if i'm wrong. Hopefully, but tbh i rather think it will be like Terrorban wrote. Only very few PvP servers will ban the IRIS-T (same for the Meteor if it comes) and even less will ban the Typhoon in general. I'm a bit worried we will see a lot of PvP servers full of Typhoons because everyone wants to dominate the sky, but we'll see. So far i haven't read anything if TrueGrit will also deliver that ramjet Meteor missile with the Typhoon, wich would be the next Air-Air game changer...

Oh you're right. My statement was not precise, but i think you got me wrong. I'm not interpreting the wip FM, i'm interpreting the confirmed performance of the real aircraft. And i'm pretty sure if this will be modeled accurate, there will be no aircraft in DCS that can compete with the Typhoon in close combat. Especially in combo with the IRIS-T missile. I.e. the Typhoon won all combat tests in the 2005 Singapore evaluation, including a 3 vs 1 dogfight situation with a single Typhoon defeating 3 RSAF F-16's with ease. Assuming both pilots beeing similar skilled, the F-16 is no match for a Typhoon in close combat. I'm not a ace dogfighter in DCS, but i know a bit about BFM/ACM and can stand my ground in the Hornet and the F-16. Flying the Typhoon (armed with IRIS-T) into a head on head merge, i'd fire a fox 2 over my shoulder prior to the enemy starts turning into me. One or 2 circle fight, high or low altitude/speed... who cares when equipped with over-the-shoulder missiles? Splash one before the fight even started for the bad guy. Slipping into a dogfight facing a Typhoon, i'd try to gtfo of it as fast as i can. The typhoon is a great aircraft and i will definately purchase it at a reasonable developement stage... but we will see what this jet will do to PvP multiplayer in DCS...I'm sceptic.
-
Well then the FM seems to be inaccurate. IIRC the Typhoon is the only fighter jet in the world beeing able to perform 9g turns at supersonic speed up to Mach 1.5. The german air force prooved that at Mach 1.2, that's confirmed. Regarding to the Typhoon pilot interview on the fighter pilot podcast, the Typhoon has about the same thrust as the F-15C (while beeing slightly lighter than a Hornet) and can perform 9g turns while carrying 3 external fuel tanks. Also i believe TrueGrit will deliver the IRIS-T missile together with the Typhoon. The IRIS-T is one of, if not the most advanced IR-SRM worldwide. It has "over-the-shoulder-capability" allowing to attack targets in a sphere around the launching aircraft (only exception is directly below the launching platform afaik), has extreme close-in agility allowing turns of 60 g at a rate of 60°/s via thrust vectoring and outperforms the AIM-9X in various aspects. The IRIS-T can also be used in hard-kill mode, targeting and engaging incoming AAMs and SAMs, wich is unique amongst SRMs. I highly doubt that there will be anything in DCS causing problems to a Typhoon in close combat. Not sure if this will enhance DCS multiplayer PvP....

The Iranians demonstrated a better way to do it. Encircle it with speedboats and fire RPGs at it. Like Indians firing arrows at surrounded settlers. :megalol:

I'm using the Monstertech MFD mounts and i'm very satisfied with them. The have a type for left/right MFDs and a different one for center MFDs. The only issue is the price, i payed roughly 125€ for 3 MFD mounts including shipping. But i'm living in Germany where Monstertech is located, so shipping was peanunts. https://www.monstertech.de/en/product/mfd-tablet-mount/ The only thing you will need is either a Monstertech rig/desk mount, or a DIY solution using the same aluminium rails Monstertech uses. The stuff is easy to get and not too expensive, i payed like 30€ for a 600mm bar in black, wich is slightly more expensive than silver. They don't come with a thread like on the picture, i tapped them by myself. But i've seen online shops for these profiles offering threading as an extra service at checkout.

Monstertech uses standard aluminium profiles, type Item 40 notch 8 (mostly 40mm x 80mm square, but also 80mm x 80mm). Item is the name of the manufactor, 40 means there is a 40mm space between the center of the notches, 8 means the notch is 8mm wide. The other major manufactor of aluminium profiles would be Bosch, those have a different shape of the notches and therefore of the nuts. Every Item notch 8 type nut will perfectly fit in your Monstertech mount, regardless what Monstertech told you. They propably meant, that if you purchase those Bosch type nuts, those wont fit. Nonetheless, great they send you some for (almost) free. But if you need some additional ones in the future, just google "Item 40 notch 8 accessories" and you should find plenty of stuff. Cheers

Also a very good one:
