  1. Hey mate, how you doing? Still in the process of moving? I know it´s been a while but i promised to inform you about customizing my rig for a center mounted stick and i finally got it done a few weeks ago. Just had no time to take pictures and upload them until now. The rig evolved a little bit and i uploaded a few pictures about it´s status right now. It´s not finished yet, as i´m still looking for a solution to mount some TM MFDs. Anyways, i hope this will give you an idea how it works with a center stick. https://forums.eagle.ru/album.php?albumid=1793 I used a hammer and some metal crafting tools to mark the spots where to drill the holes. Sorry, i don´t know the english designation of these tools, so i attached a picture of those i used. Hope this helps. cheers
  2. When i installed the extended center stick few weeks ago, i had to get used to it as it feels somehow different due to the higher deflection. I´m playing flight sims since 1994 and i´ve always used sidestick config, so the position of the stick also made a difference in how it feels. Especially with AAR it made a big difference to get comfortable with it. After a few weeks now i find it to be more precise, although i set the axis at 50% deflection (a space issue). I also had to install a stronger spring (i choosed Sahaj´s blue spring, but the red would propably work as well), as the standard spring didn´t recenter anymore and i´m not flying helicopters. 1. This rig has a standard FIA 290 mount. Means, standard FIA seats will fit, w/o modifications most jet seats will not. 2. Doing sim racing as well. At least sometimes with RL friends on a private server. 3. I have massive problems with my backbone. On a office chair, as well as on a jet seat (tried it) i get horrible pain in my back after 30 minutes. Racing seats are 10 times more comfortable IMO and i can do 2 or 3 hour missions/races without getting the slightes pain in my backbone. I´m looking for as much immersion as possible, true, but i rate playing without massive pain higher than the tiny little extra immersion a jet seat would provide. Understand now?
  3. Hey mate, i just installed the 75mm extension on the WarBRD base, using the WH grip on top and tried a couple of training dogfights with it. I would rate it as stiff (maybe a bit softer) as using the soft springs without extension, so pretty much flippy floppy. It does completely recenter, but the slightest touch will make it move. I´d say it is usable in this config, but as this is very much personal opinion i´m careful with that judgement. Propably better with the extra heavy springs, but as i said i didn´t try them yet. I made a short video of it´s behavior, but couldn´t find any option here to attach videos... cheers
  4. Yes, just a week ago i installed the heavy springs. Honestly, i haven´t tried the WarBRD base with extensions as it was planned to be used as F-16 sidestick from the beginning. My personal opinion is, that it is still significant softer than the Warthog with the standard spring. I´m using the Warthog base now with Sahaj´s blue spring, 35cm extension and Hornet grip on top. I tried the standard WH spring with that combination first and the base didn´t recenter anymore. I also tried the WH base with original A-10/F-16 grip, original spring and a 20cm extension just for fun and it also didn´t recenter anymore. According to the WarBRD base with heavy springs beeing still much softer (at least around the gimbal center) than the non-customized Warthog, i doubt it could handle extensions pretty good. Mabe a very short (5cm) one. Also the stick is still a bit flippy with the heavy springs. I also purchased the extra heavy springs for the WarBRD base separately, but tbh i haven´t tried them yet. I purchased all of the Virpil extensions (50mm, 75mm, 100mm and 200mm) and the 75mm extension is not in use. If you want, i could install this one on the WarBRD base with the WH grip tomorrow (not at home right now) and check how it works. But honestly i´m too lazy to dissasemble my center stick in order to try other extensions, or to install the extra heavy springs on the WarBRD base. cheers
  5. It seems like Virpil only turns slow as soon as you´re having issues with their products. 2 weeks ago i´ve asked via email if i can add something else to my order before it gets shipped and got a response after 12 hrs, that my order is already processed and shipped. So, someone IS checking these emails immediatly and it looks like as if the topic of the email is related to the response time... Not a good sign indeed...
  6. I choosed the RSEAT S1 w/ Flight mount upgrade kit. Pricey as well, but outstanding quality. The only issue for you would be mounting the TM MFDs, as this would require a DIY solution. I´m still struggling with the MFDs and thinking about using the Monstertech MFD mounts and customize them to fit my rig
  7. This. And A-4E, A-6, EA-6B, A-7, F-8, F-101, SH-60, Lynx, Alpha Jet, Avro Vulcan as well as a few civilian airliners. Also i´d love to have a few more vessels, especially more variety for the iranian navy. I.e. a iranian frigate would be nice to sink.
  8. Absolutely. The perfect HOTAS doesen´t exist ATM (can´t tell anything about WinWing, as they are pretty new on the market), so combining bases and grips from various manufactors is the best you can do. Another reason why i´d recommend to save a bit more money and go for a more versatile HOTAS with switchable grips. The Warthog is a solid entry to that section.
  9. Great. Your button box catched my eyes some time ago and i scratched it because of missing space on my rig. A vertical mount with different adaptors so it can be attached to various simrigs would definately bring back my interest on that box
  10. Well, it is a realistic flight sim and the Hornet is a study lvl aircraft. It needs dozens of commands to operate it properly and you can´t expect VR to work perfectly while only using a stick/HOTAS, especially with one that has not a trigger(wich one?). Unless you have a fully functional home cockpit (or capto gloves), you will need to use mouse/keyboard/VR controllers additionally to the stick in certain situations. And if your stick does not have a trigger, you will need to use the space bar/keyboard everytime you fire a weapon. Or map space bar to a different button on your stick. This is just natural for a game like DCS.
  11. No, it´s exactly the same base. They just started to advertise it separately from the grip with a different name. This was related to the EA launch of the DCS F-16 module, wich is why they started to offer the Warthog grip separately from the base as "F-16 grip" at the same time.
  12. Depends. I own both, TM and Virpil. If it´s for the base, Virpil is definately high class and superior to TM. If we are talking about grips, i rate TM equal to VKB and better than Virpil in quality and superior to both in terms of used materials. The Warthog grip is made from metal (even the trigger) while VKB and Virpil are plastic. I don´t care if they feel high class, they´re still plastic.
  13. Holy shit, what kind of prices are that for the Warthog. I purchased the set in germany, brand new for 360€ with a 4 year warranty. Ok, it was out of stock and i had to wait 3 months for it to be available, but boy... 600 or even more for a Warthog HOTAS? That´s insane...
  14. I´d highly suggest not to purchase the X55/X56, you won´t be happy with it. I used the X-55 before i switched to the Warthog a year ago and i can tell you that it has significant quality issues. Ghosting, buttons stopped working, the software is crap, and more. And Logitech hasn´t solved any of these issues with the X-56. I´ve seen ppl owning both, the X-55 and 56 saying quality even got worse. If you´re low on budget i´d rather suggest getting the Thrustmaster T16000M+TWCS throttle and TFRP pedals. Should be about the same price as the X-56 (or even cheaper) but said to be way better quality. Anyways, the Warthogs price is only 90 bucks above the X-56 (at least over here), so if you´re sure to stay with DCS/flight sims it propably might be a good idea to save your money for 1 or 2 months more and get the Warthog... instead of purchasing a medium price HOTAS first and then switch to a high class HOTAS later
  15. I know ppl with average monthly income spending thousands of €uros for fishing equipment. Nothing wrong with purchasing good hardware for a hobby you love. The remarkable difference is, you will feel a significant increase of precision, fun and propably skill while a 700€ fishing reel does not make you catch more fish than with a 200€ reel. Beeing "normal" is relative... ;)
  16. My shipment from Virpil is announced to arrive at thursday. I´ll be able to tell you if it fits for the Hornet grip then.
  17. I only have that for Hornets. Tomcats, MiGs, Viper... all have their callsign on comms, only Hornets are designated 211 for Springfield 1-1 and so on, regardless if AI or player. Since it´s Hornet exclusive for me, I thought this came as a change for the Hornet or something. Until i saw this thread.
  18. That was my assumption as well....
  19. ED is not the only one using the 29 as symbol for both, MiG 29 and Su-27, on the RWR. That Falcon, uhm ooops F-16 sim i was addicted to for years did as well. This little inaccuracy is realy interesting and i wonder why ED does not take care of it. Sure, not a top priority but still strange. Does anyone know if the real Hornet/Viper have the correct symbols on the RWR?
  20. Spring tension of the Warthog is medium and it´s recommended to go for a heavy spring when using extensions. I´m running the Warthog with 35cm extensions (5cm + 10cm + 20cm S-type) and F/A-18 grip on top and Sahaj´s blue spring installed. The standard spring, even with only 20cm extension + Hornet grip on top already struggles to recenter. With the even heavier Warthog grip attached, it doesen´t recenter at all. The spring is easy to switch, takes about 2 - 3 minutes and, wich is important for a new one, won´t void your warranty. Sahaj offers green, red and blue springs for the WH. The green is lighter than the original one, the red is harder and meant for 10-20cm extensions and the blue one is for extensions way above 20cm. You won´t need a heavier spring than the original one if you´re not going to use extensions, as the original already feels pretty heavy (compared to other sticks) w/o extension. I assume, you´d rather decide to go for a lighter one. Anyways, the Warthog has it´s flaws but is a solid piece of equipment and i´ve never regret the purchase. You won´t find a better one in it´s price range. I got my orig. WH grip on a Virpil base wich is definately better than the WH, but also significant more expensive and it didn´t make my WH base obsolete. I still enjoy it. Also both TM grips are excellent quality and IMO way better than the plastic grips of other manufactors. If the WH is on sale, your budget allows it and you´re able to get a good deal, hit the "buy now" button. You won´t regret.
  21. I upgraded from 16GB DDR4 to 32GB a year ago and i had no performance increase. The game runs better (more stable) in large missions or in MP sessions and it feels like (not sure if it realy is) as if loading mission/terrain etc. is a bit faster. If you are not running DCS on a SSD, getting one would be a more reasonable (and cheaper) upgrade than getting more RAM. AFAIK when it comes to performance (FPS), VRAM is what you cannot have enough of.
  22. Realy? So why do they show up both as 29 on the RWR?
  23. The description of the PG map says "adding Iran (and some others) as faction to DCS". Not sure if this means in general, or just for owners of the map. Anyways, more skins would be very nice indeed.
  24. If it would be the same, or comparable size to the WH throttle (and sold separately)...this would be a day one purchase for me as the WinWing is not an option - unfortuneately. No separate throttle offered and even if, there is no chance the throttle will fit to my rig. You just gave me hope...
  25. I knew about the RWR has a database containing radar signatures of different aircrafts, that Su-27 and MiG 29 both show up as 29 on the RWR as they share the same radar and so on... but wasn´t aware it also contains the signatures of onboard missile radars, what is on the other hand somehow logical. Now this makes sense, thanks a lot for clearing that out.
