Polychop Christmas Update 2021
Eldur replied to Polychop Simulations's topic in Polychop-Simulations
Thanks for the open and honest update. I was, as many, wondering what happened since there were no updates in a while, but this explains it all. Being in a medical condition pretty much sucks (I know that much too well...) and all I can do is wish all the best for that team member. Meanwhile I'll wait patiently for the module as well as the Gazelle FM update. We'll be getting there. Take your time to make things right and don't let things bring you down. Keep on rockin'! -
Too bad your board doesn't let you OC that CPU, but I guess it's still good anyway. But for that price tag you could sell your 1070 at the moment. Hard to get anything for that amount, unless you manage to snipe a drop. Thanks for the insight. I've been trying to get a glance at such drops, never worked out for me. I wish I had that luck... but your given performance data actually encourages me to maybe just settle for a 3070 instead of trying to get something like the 3080ti which is much more expensive. I'm having a 1080 and get similar results like you with that 1070. The improvement of the 3070 over that would totally make it worthwhile. Just don't wanna spend 1300€ on it, even though that's what they always asked for if you tried getting a 2080ti before the 30 series launch, and they're said to be performing similarly well, even though the 3070 has less VRAM.

Well, it was planned for the upcoming weekend... and I wanted to see the schedule to know the time when it kicks off I wonder what happened. All of the linked sites are dead, including the twitch channel. I'd really like to know what's up there...
-
So we're basically getting $3 back in miles for the extra wait until end of January for the AH-64D early access release? I haven't ever seen such a move at all. Absolutely great and generous by ED
-
Nice, nice! Great to see a comparison. I wasn't sure if I should get a 6900xt if chances permit. Looks like I'll be opting for the 3080ti since the difference is massive; that is, if I can get it somewhere for less than 2k. When they dropped, they were available for 1.5k, then they only went up, which sucks.

Maybe they're just more or less stuck in bed thanks to myocarditis and the kidneys kinda taking a break due to Covid invaccination like me (I can't tell you how much this sucks, and probably shouldn't because of rules *g*)... but I guess, I need a fast horse now for being honest and truthful. Oh, wait. I am. Usually... Jokes aside... I think it was in a good state on release already and you guys keep improving it, albeit slowly. But to be fair, I see nothing wrong there. As for myself, I just wait for Petrovich to finally get both a voice and a HOTAS. He's literally a mute keyboard only wannabe right now, but he's doing fairly well if you stay in the back seat Good things take time though and the module is totally usable. I mean, aren't we all waiting for the Apache anyway? And everything that isn't in this patch, might drop with the next - I was expecting Tomcat fixes, especially to the AP, and the Viggen stuff Well, I'll spend some time in the Viper then, most probably. And trying to troubleshoot my underwhelming WMR performance... Speaking of VR, in one of the last 2 updates you guys fixed the alignment of the hands and the head on the G2 (Rift/Quest hands are a tad off angle still, but not as much as the G2 was), which really made me happy. Also noticed that I can map the controllers since then (though it wouldn't register the ministick press), but I couldn't do that in the Tomcat for some reason and the UI Layer mappings weren't taken in that module either. But I really have to thank for the work done here, it's clearly heading into the right direction. That stuff should have been on the patch notes... anyway, it's always great to find such improvements anyway.

Any stick input on autopilot droops the nose downwards
Eldur replied to Zaneboy's topic in Bugs and Problems
Noticed as well, particularly uncomfortable with FFB, I basically can only use simple AP on attitude hold. Worked fine for quite a while until just recently though. -
That line caught me pants down and immediately had me dying, not gonna lie! Classic Heatblur
-
You mean the privacy glassy one which was almost pitch black under any circumstances?
-
Totally different experience here BTW. The head movement stutter and rubberbanding with the G2 is an utter nightmare on DCS. Silky smooth within the Steam Home environment, so it definately is not the tracking that effs it up. No problems with the CV1 though, but after having had the G2 on already, I'm basically full blind in the CV1. Edit: Needless to say I suspect this being a WMR issue. I see the same shenanigans in those other sims, including theirs. MS really needs to get their ship together...
-
This might possibly be both the ugliest and the most practical solution for many DCS pilots at the same time
-
I might digress, but this Anyway, at this point, that place should be a massively huge crater to be anywhere near realistic, since literally everyone in DCS has thrown at least a gazillion of explosives on it
-
Thanks for posting that. When I watched the show that made me decide I definately won't upgrade to Win 11 before 2025, when they'll cut off Win 10 support. I mean, even Windows 10 still is in Early Access right now...

Questions about the next major update and the ea situation.
Eldur replied to IDontLikeBigbrother's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I was wondering about the lack of Viggen changes today, this explains why. Thanks for your hard work, will spend time on the LANTIRN then -
I'm kinda impressed. I got a 5800x and a 1080, but I can't run the G2 at over 60% RPE without the fps dropping hard down well below 45. At 100% I'm looking at around 20-25fps at best with drops down the teens, would never dare to set it even slightly beyond that. Have tried that FSR thing as well (the thing thrown into the \bin folder), absolutely no difference either visually or in regards of performance. Your post kinda makes me want to try a higher res again with the new patch

The twist is that ED staff write the news posts in an internal area, probably for cross-reading and then move the posts to the threads we can see. The board software doesn't register them as new posts, so no notifications are sent and sometimes it even doesn't get that yellow "new post here" thing. The only solution I have in mind to that is creating a new post in the news threads and C&Ping the content from the internal ones (from the edit function WYSIWYG box) right into it so it actually counts as a completely new post. I'm kinda excited for the multicore thing, which probably will bring more benefit that just going Vulkan. I mean it's a big "let's do all that stuff" package after all. BTW as it has been mentioned as well in one of the last newsletters, I wonder what the VR improvements actually are going to be. There's a lot more than just increasing performance by any means (Single Pass Stereo, adding a fixed and eye-tracked Foveated Rendering feature, adding DLSS support and such) as there's also a good amount of controller issues (WMR especially with positioning of viewports and hands including the wrist angles) and general convenience/usabilty things that could be addressed like VTOL VR-like grab the thing and flick it with actual moment control, hands casting a shadow, the still bugged and mostly invisible cursor, option to disable the laser pointer style of control for those who don't like it and have the space, general possibility to remap the controllers, virtual hand fading out after a settable time, mechanisms to keep the controllers alive and prevent them from going to deep sleep, direct fingertip click interaction model with intelligent boundary detection to prevent accidental triggering of nearby switches... just to name a few things. Would be great to know what's actually planned or even just considered from all those suggestions in the VR section.

The one single great thing about German bamboo internet being, you've got plenty of time to read the patch notes while downloading that ~40GB monster, even if you're an utterly slow reader with those field-modded Mk. Ib Eyeballs staring at a 200% zoomed page in high contrast Dark Mode Yes, it takes patience indeed, and actually lots of it, after having read the notes, waiting for that green bar to slowly fill up

Uh well, I see the forums software is playing tricks upon me again because the ED guys keep posting those earlier in some sekrit location and just moving them over, so the thing doesn't tell me there's anything new making me believe there isn't. Haven't been falling for that for quite some time now. Should have known better New thing: being a day earlier now and probably they changed the way they're making those posts somehow as it always was displayed as unread content for a long time. Thanks for reminding Well, all I can say is: With 30% off, this thing is a steal. Go get it while it's hot

Tried to watch the 64 trailer premiere on the Tube, failed because Google sucks, preordered and then watched. But where's the newsletter? Gettin' late...

Well, they do have a history of not supporting their own previous stuff *coughsidewindercough* *coughffbcoughincoughfscough* After hearing on the WAN Show that Win 11 on quite some occasions might drop about 25% of your gaming performance by somehow limiting GPU power consumption due to TPM *stuff*, I'm rather glad my system is not eligible for it - I mean even Win 10 still is in early access, so why switch to something even less complete? Probably just a BIOS setting to enable that Orwellian 84 spyware chip would change that, but I'm not gonna do that unless they forces me to. So that's gonna be 2025 for me probably. I still remember the NoTCPA campaigns like 20 years ago. Wasn't successful, as can be seen today. In other words: "We value your privacy!" - Privacy left the chat. Other than that I just hate it when every company tries to be Apple and as a result having their stuff getting worse (who'd have thunk it?). Samsung doing the same BS for years and even Oculus started it a while ago... not gonna follow that trend.

I don't believe in coincidence, but what you're implying would be sick...
-
Let me be that pun guy now then Drinking game: Take a shot everytime you read "crash" on the patch notes Jokes aside, fixing crash issues is pretty importanat, but I also expected a little more this time. Not that big of a deal though as there's a "real" update slated for in two weeks™.

That page literally is NIIRS 0 when running Dark Reader. Coincidence? When I disabled it for that site, the 90s called and wanted their HTML 3.2 back That font size though, reminds me of the folded novels that come with pills. What level of NIIRS would that be? 5/7 Could have been a trombone as well... Video is locked behind a "We need your ID card or you shall not pass" wall since they don't accept my credit card data (which they already had) because it's prepaid (did this for a reason, being on the internet...). Not gonna give that to Google. I guess I know the footage though. Anyway, learnt something new here. And this definately is an interesting topic, as it boils down to sensor resolution and optical zoom factors which has been discussed in the past with other optical sensors, especially after Heatblur dropping their pixelated and apparently more realistic LANTIRN.
