ED Team NineLine Posted September 4, 2014 ED Team Share Posted September 4, 2014 Nice newsletter however one thing is missing from the 2.0 features list that I thought would be implemented in edge and that is proper multicore support. No word about that elsewhere (I wasn't reading the forums for some time now) ? No the benefits of EDGE were the fact that a lot of the workload would be moved to your GPU, no talk has been made about multi-core. SkateZilla
This is an enormous logical leap, don't you think? They've said they've been working on the 18 for a very long time. Whenever people complain that the F/A-18 is being back-burnered in favor of, say, WWII birds (don't count me among their numbers), the response is usually that ED can walk and chew gum at the same time, and that we don't really have any inkling about how things are prioritized internally. (I agree with this assessment.) Nowhere in the update does it say that ED is currently working on a map for the Hornet module. Wags said that and other additional assets need to be created. The other major element of DCS World War II: Europe 1944 is of course the new Normandy map. The team is currently working on a new combat theater map to support DCS: F/A-18C Hornet, but once complete, will be returning to this map. At that time, we should be able to start sharing images of the new era map, complete with period ground units. I wish to remain optimistic :) Nice newsletter however one thing is missing from the 2.0 features list that I thought would be implemented in edge and that is proper multicore support. No word about that elsewhere (I wasn't reading the forums for some time now) ? I don't recall ever seeing anything about CPU Multi-Threaded changes, however it was mentioned previously that DX11 would support multiple GPUs (up to 4). Yes, although dont get down about that either, its moving a lot of work to the GPU, this allows for more units in missions and such... so its a similar benefit I would think. Snoopy
It was stated a while ago although I can no longer find it that EDGE would use multiple cores but like Wags signature "everything is subject to change." Baby steps, let see how 2.0 is when released and hopefully ED is thinking forward and if not done initially we will eventually have multicore integration. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website | v303rd Fighter Group Twitter

WRAITH
Hi I think you guys might like this................. http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5723&p=64348&viewfull=1#post64348 Also..... http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1309493&postcount=1 Now as far as new technologies with Update 2.0.0 + EDGE moving more GFX workload to 4 Core GPU and more Code data-base processing work to at 4 cores to CPU mentioned in those links is more than an enough for DCS level GFX EDGE improvements. I mean I'm no Developer just have read heaps in the last month to understand whats in the planning testing phase. Norm is now 4 Core CPU anyway especially for simulator gaming! Well what ever Google can find that hard worker....LoL Edited September 4, 2014 by WRAITH
Snoopy
Hmm, I dont remember that, its possible I missed it... but I dont think EDGE was ever said to be multi-core. Found it, but the key word is can and it's talking GPUs so maybe it's interpretation. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1900652&postcount=3 Now that we are getting very close to integrating EDGE into DCS, I can share a few more details. 1- DirectX 11 / DirectX 11 Windows 8 based. 2- Can support up to four GPU (either SLI or CF). 3- Uses clip maps. 4- Two cloud layers can be created with options for none, cumulous, cumulous nimbus, and stratus. 5- Terrain shadow projection is supported. 6- World can be as large as the designer wishes them to be, it is more of a question of development time / map detail. 7- Option to project map on globe surface. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website | v303rd Fighter Group Twitter
ED Team NineLine Posted September 4, 2014 ED Team Share Posted September 4, 2014 Yes, GPU means multi graphic cards... not processor cores. So it was never stated it was multi-core. Raven68
I really cant stop thinking of the possibilities of the multi crew operations. The first thing that comes to mind is the AC-130. I may need to do some forum searching but is this even being discussed from some of the development teams? Another is, although there will probably be some serious limitations due to information being classified, is the B-1B! ED Team NineLine Posted September 4, 2014 ED Team Share Posted September 4, 2014 Yeah, I was sure I'd heard this, well please do let us know if you find out. See above, I confirmed as well, Multi-core was never listed as a feature as the benefits will come from your GPU(s). SkateZilla
Hmm, I dont remember that, its possible I missed it... but I dont think EDGE was ever said to be multi-core. I think they mean multiple gpus, i've gone back quickly and cant seem to find the features list that stated multiple GPU threads (up to 4). edit: sniped. Also, IIRC, DirectX 11's Resource Management itself is Multi-threaded, where as DX9c is not. So that Might be where CPU Multi-Threaded questions are coming from. WRAITH
I need another Graphics card then... Or RAM to compensate anyway most Motherboards are at least dual GFX slots. Anyway gents all this talk for development that honestly is still 2-3 years away when you see all 3rd Party "To-Do-List" released example VEOS Road Map or other in Forum. Again I say like earlier better wait for full Air Craft PFM, new MAPS, new sim etc in few years time. Maybe by then we have new PC's and exceed recommended specs anyway. Lets wait patiently.......... it sure does sound promising for Sim hobbyists! :smilewink::thumbup: Cheers, Edited September 4, 2014 by WRAITH
