Yeah me too, never bothered with the BETA install especially since the live version was often released rather quickly but for this one I'll make an exception.

It should follow the current release pattern where it will be Open Beta first, and full release after that. SO no, initially it shouldn't effect your current release install.

Sounds like it will go to the open beta branch first.

If you have a current beta install on your machine, it should update to 1.5 when it moves to beta release.

Wont know a good answer to that until we get the release candidate tested, but as far as I know it will update like other updates, obviously just bigger changes...

It will after the beta period I am sure, it just wont initially. Its safer to release as a open beta so if something goes horribly wrong, your current install didnt get blowed up. ;)

Decided today to install the Beta, just to be prepared.

If anyone has no space or no will to keep two installs you can easily switch from release to openbeta on your current installation with an updater:

 

DCS_updater.exe update openbeta

It will update your current installation and keep it as openbeta from this point onwards.

 

Around 600MB needed to download at this point (at least for me with my modules).

Bear in mind that you can still have it if you want.

 

The Open Beta install is just a different version of DCS World that lives in a totally separate folder. It won't affect your currently installed version at all.

 

To all intents and purposes, it just looks like you're doubling up on your DCS installs. In practical terms, it just enables you to check out the new stuff a few days/weeks early before it's released to your main install of DCS: World.

 

TL;DR - If you've got the internet bandwidth and you want to see 1.5 early, there's no reason at all why you shouldn't download a beta install.

Keep in mind that when the Open Beta version is out of sync with the release version (as I believe it is now) you will not be able to join multi-player servers that aren't running the Open Beta.

Copy / Paste DCS World Folder to make a 2nd copy, rename folder to whatever,

 

open notepad, type: beta, save as dcs_variant.txt in the DCSWorld Beta folder.

 

Launch the 2nd DCS using run.exe or launcher.exe, once on the main menu, quit, and then goto User, Saved Games, and Make sure there is a new /DCS.beta/ folder.

 

Then open command prompt, goto DCS Beta folder

Then log in to Multiplayer on DCSW beta using your DCSW standard login and accept the offer to install all of your modules into the beta. Finally copy the Input folder (and View folder if you have one) from \Saved Games\DCS\Config to the similar location in the beta folder to get all your controls settings.

With steam you can really only have one instance, as it will overwrite the install.

 

U can opt in the beta on the steam UI, or you can download the Open Beta Installer from ED and Run a sepaeate install, just make sure that the open beta install uses its own saved games folders, or you'll have conflicts when using one or the other.
