RaXha Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Or maybe we should start discussing the aircraft we think Leatherneck will release after the Corsair, Viggen, and Tomcat. I think it will be a Zero! Here we go all over again! xD
westr Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Ugly?!? :megalol: This is sheer aviation art! Nice pictures. RYZEN 7 3700X Running at 4.35 GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080Ti 32gb DDR4 RAM @3200 MHz Oculus CV1 NvME 970 EVO TM Warthog Stick & Throttle plus 11" extension. VKB T-Rudder MKIV
westr Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Viggen like Viggen, I dont have any interest in it. But where exactly Leatherneck wants to take us with Iwo Jima, Okinawa and so on ? I mean ED struggles with Normandy stuff, they still did not provide even decent damage models for ww2 modules, map is still a matter of gossips rather than facts and the rate at which new aircraft are released is lower than low. And LS would try to go all alone on the new theater, with aircraft (both pilot and ai controlled) and maps ... I really want to know how they will work that out. They have all my support, but still they are going into a very dangerous area :) Module Releases for DCS world will continue to be slow and will always be slow simply because of the quality standards that are set. It is inevitable that for every dcs release you will see 3 maybe 4 times the amount released for FSX P3D. Personally I am comfortable with this and would not even begin to compare these modules. :) RYZEN 7 3700X Running at 4.35 GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080Ti 32gb DDR4 RAM @3200 MHz Oculus CV1 NvME 970 EVO TM Warthog Stick & Throttle plus 11" extension. TomCatMucDe Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Its not a beautiful aircraft honestly, but neither are the A10, su25, mig23 and many others. They remain very interesting and fun birds! I'm still buying it
zaelu Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Ugly?!? :megalol: This is sheer aviation art! I wouldn't say it's ugly, but art... Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder but also beauty changes in time and with knowledge. Your second picture shows a poor wing abused by engineers to fit some graphics they needed. That broken in 3 leading edge is not art... is struggle. You can almost feel the pain. Also the canards with moving parts on them are... meh... After that... every bulge and box added to the body to fit some military stuff is not art... is again engineering struggle (to say it beautifully). Is like with F16. The first variants were art form... the last... utter junk. Simple upgraded weapon delivery platforms. Piloted drones. For me. Draken is beautiful. Viggen... meh. Edited December 7, 2015 by zaelu [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I5 4670k, 32GB, GTX 1070, Thrustmaster TFRP, G940 Throttle extremely modded with Bodnar 0836X and Bu0836A, Warthog Joystick with F-18 grip, Oculus Rift S - Almost all is made from gifts from friends, the most expensive parts at least
Spectrum Legacy Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 For me. Draken is beautiful. Viggen... meh. Well Draken is the best looking jet ever built, at least for me. I was hoping to the very last moment that it would turn out to be the Draken... Anyway, Viggen on the other hand is so weird and borderline ugly that it is becoming quite pretty, if you recognize that sensation :P However all is forgiven, because it is the attack variant. My only hope is that the map will feature those awesome road bases and other details based on the defence doctrine. Can't wait to find out... Sent from my pComputer using Keyboard
zantron Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Nice pictures. yeah those pics are actually giving me second thoughts lol, but i still have to fully learn let alone master the planes i fly now (and i only fly a portion of them) before i invest time in another “The murder of a man is still murder, even in wartime.” -Manfred von Richthofen
El Hadji Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Nice pictures. Glad you enjoyed them. I've seen that plane IRL and the guy who flies it the pics is from my home town. The thing that won't come through via the pictures is the sound it makes. Still, so far that's over 2,600 posts we've kept off the more serious threads :) To speculate further, was this a cunning plan by ED? <.... mumble mumble.... must get out more.....> klem 56 RAF 'Firebirds' ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F mobo, i7 8086A @ 5.0 GHz with Corsair H115i watercooling, Gigabyte 2080Ti GAMING OC 11Gb GPU , 32Gb DDR4 RAM, 500Gb and 256Gb SSD SATA III 6Gb/s + 2TB , Pimax 8k Plus VR, TM Warthog Throttle, TM F18 Grip on Virpil WarBRD base, Windows 10 Home 64bit
BlackLion213 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 As Previously Stated the AJS-37 is only a very minor upgrade over the AJ-37. A slightly Upgraded Onboard computer to be able to Handle the BK-90 and RBS-15F aswell as the Aim-9L And Rewiering of the Pylons to make it possible to carry certain weapons on more of the pylons (for example previous to the upgrade only 2 pylons where Aim-9 capable and only 2 where AGM-65 capable but after the upgrade all 6 pylons can use the Aim-9 and 4 of them are AGM-65 capable) But Engine Radar Cockpit etc is all the same from the AJ-37. The swedish Designation system is completley based on the Roles an aircraft is supposed to / capable of filling. In the Case of the AJ-37 those roles are Attack (primary) Jakt (Swedish term for a Fighter) (secondary) And after the Upgrade the AJ-37 gained a reconnaissance abillity ontop of that adding the role of Spaning (Swedish term for reconnaissance) Thus with the New Role it had and S added to the designation. Thus it became the AJS. In Comparison the JAS-39 Gripen Is Fighter First Attack Second and reconnaissance Third Giving it the Designation JAS. And the Fighter Viggen is the JA-37 as its a Fighter First and Attack Second. This is great information, thank you for explaining. :) It also makes great sense that LNS would pick the AJS-37 from what you've said. I figured that the AJ-37 would offer more interesting combat scenarios (large, Cold War encounters is what I envisioned), but I can see some members of the DCS community not responding well to a modern jet that can't field an all-aspect Sidewinder. Plus, the A-G weapons variety offered by both the AJ-37 and AJS-37 is pretty impressive. However, it seems that the option for Cold War scenarios is not ruled-out by creating the AJS variant. The AJS and AJ are so similar (it would seem) that reverting the AJS back to the AJ would only really require LNS to block out the aircraft's ability to carry certain weapons. They could have something like a check-box in the loadout manager that could switch between the AJS and AJ variants to allow for 1970s and 1980s missions/campaigns. In any case, this looks like a fun aircraft to fly and I'm glad it's confirmed - we've been talking about the Viggen since March. Now I'm REALLY curious to hear what sort of scenarios LNS is planning on (like what map, what sort of missions...will there be Swedish vs Soviet strikes, etc??). -Nick

So I think a Seeden based map is a sure thing. BlackLion213 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 One of the hints was that the map would be very cold and very oceany. So I think a Seeden based map is a sure thing. True, but that was a reference to the upcoming F-14 theater. However, creating the Viggen without a Swedish map (even if just some coastline or Gotland) would seem a bit odd - since it only served with the Swedish Air Force. There probably are other theater options, I'm just not sure of what it would be. :) The setting for both the Viggen and Tomcat maps is something that I really want to learn more about. They said that none of their upcoming maps have much in common - does that mean the F-14 map will be cold Pacific vs Baltic/Europe for the Viggen. Might one of these take place in the cold reaches of the Southern Hemisphere?? (Can't imagine what that would be). I'm intrigued.... Mostly, I'm just really happy that Leatherneck is combining their modules with Theaters. This is the sort of combined/integrated approach that DCS can really use. I'm really anxious to see what this looks like. -Nick

It was meant to swarm the Russian fleet in an anti-ship role if they went to war.
Angelthunder Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Well, now that the cat's out of the bag with the leaked announcements. Will they make different variants for the Viggen & Corsair. And with the Pacific map coming out, will they make other WWII aircraft models for it like the Mitsubishi J2M Raiden & P-38 Lightning.I want to see these fully modeled.
cauldron Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 So...is it just me, or is it not insignificant that the background on leatherneck website is a P-38? :music_whistling:
King_Hrothgar Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Seems you missed the news. The F4U-1D, AJS-37 and F-14A/B are the next 3 aircraft. They were confirmed after the info was leaked by steam. So no, those various background pictures are not of any significance.

Vampyre Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 We have the answer to our speculations now. So... Can we possibly close this thread or let it die? It lived too long already. ... but what comes after the Tomcats? Truly superior pilots are those that use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills. If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! "If at first you don't succeed, Carrier Landings are not for you!"
QuiGon Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 ... but what comes after the Tomcats? Noooooooooo, pls don't :P No, seriously it's a bit too early to start this :) Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
Farlander Posted January 6, 2016 Author Posted January 6, 2016 (edited) All we know is that the future looks bright, and alot of planes are coming :) Edited January 8, 2016 by Farlander Fixed some grammar..
Wings_Of_Liberty Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 I have bought Mig21 at last year(even though I didn't very like it's appearance but If Mig 21 comes ,can Mig23 be far behind? XD)
