i am talking about the fact that Normandy looks exactly the same at every latitude/longitude, just a repetion of fields and trees with same pattern, then we have some harbours and cities but if you look at the youtube vidoes, whether you move to north/south/east/west you'll always have the same scenario/aspect.

And i found it to be boring.

I think you are very wrong, There are no patterns, sure there are some similar looks, but so to is the real Normandy area. As I said, you should reserve judgement, once it goes live, I am sure you will see more vids if you havent pre-purchased, if you have, you will see for yourself.

Well, Your entitled to your views.

But I think they are definitely pre-mature and out of focus.

France is France, England is England, you can just throw a Fantasy Mountain Range in there for play-ability,

I cannot wait to finally fly around Normandy. That map and the lighting looks stunningly realistic. DCS 2.5 cannot come soon enough (new Caucasus will be as stunning, I am sure)!

Am I the only one who don't appreciate this map at all? I: it is completely FLAT, it has no VARIATIONS at all, you can see only trees (with horrible aspect , looks like fake platic trees and are not realistic at all), and repetion of green/yellow fields, appart from that t he map has exactly the same aspect at every angle, no mountains, no hills, just a few rivers....it's pretty annoying map, once you see it once you get enough of it...and I even bought it.

Even tough Caucasus is an old map, it is in my opion far superior in terms of immersion.

Yeah, that Su27 flight sort of gave me the same vibes. It's all small fields & bocagge and very flat terrain. Im sure Ill enjoy it for WWII combat & missions though.

As for modern aircraft, I doubt very many of the western ones will be able to use the unpaved airfields in use at the time.

BTW are there any paved airfields/airports on the map at all?

Are Carriers paved? :)

I dont think there are paved runways built in, I dont know if the placeable ones will give you the option to pick the type of runway, and I think most Western aircraft, fighters and that dont seem to have an issue with the current runways.

But yes, it is geared towards 1944 for sure.

I'd be more worried about your issue of having accidents at work over DCS news, this year might get you fired ;)

Bring on the news!! It will be good practice for me to control myself and minimize my accidents going forward. :D

Well if anyone uses it for modern air operations, at least it will force the bottomdwellers to come out of the weeds and fight in the sky. I for one, don't have much of a problem with that. :)

This has been addressed long ago, but the short story is you made a deal with RRG and Ilya, he was unable to fulfill the backer plan, ED took over. ED had to make adjustments to make it more realistic, and what I linked is what we have now.

I suggest a forum search and you can find all the discussion about it I am sure.

I think it might not be the best idea to bring it up at all, but what´s the loss for ED in enabling more people to play early access? They´re basically free alpha testers - the more the better. Bugs haven´t deterred people from playing (and enjoying) DCS in the past ;)

I mean, the question of 2 or 3 free modules for any given backer level, that does certainly make a difference for ED in terms of monetarisation...

It´s all there in the post you linked. I had just been asking myself that.

Guess I´m getting anxious...

I dont understand the issue about the area flatness.

Its not about having mountains or not. Its about realism and the real normandy simply has no high mountains. What do some people expect? Shall ED modify it despite the real area or shall they create some totally fictional maps like this MMO, which we all know?

Well this is a combat simulator...i doubt the pilots fighting in 1944-1945 over Normandy thought too much or had the time to think about about the Terrain being "boring". Not sure how one can jump to this opinion without actually experiencing it first hand.

From what I've seen, the map looks great. Can't wait to experience it.

If you fill your glass all the way...you don't have to worry much about it being Half Empty.

I look forward to watching people get taken out by trees instead of diving and flying through them like they arent there..

I have flown enough, in another sim, to have a well defined fear of hitting a tree. Of course, the blades on the Huey are pretty big so I am sure it will happen sooner than later.

In hindsight, perhaps you should have checked what the topography of northern France is like before buying the map? Did you expect the Pyrenees to pop up in an area where the elevation above sea level is typically 0-300m?

Yeah, totally. They should have modelled Himalaya even though Normandy battle happened in Normandy. That would be far more immersive and interesting. Screw you flat France.
