For a lot of reasons.

1.) I was new to the Oculus. Watched videos, how to set up.

2.) Wrecked my Oculus. Images ended up stretched, pixels making lines. Flickering, black bars. Was able to fix with "Oculus Debug Tool", that "Tray Tool" doesn't have the features. Was scared. Because I just purchased this.

3.) Oculus has its own called "Oculus debug tool" in the Oculus folder, in which they constant update, and with new/Added/fixed features.

4.) Oculus Tray tool. They do not update (who ever makes it). They may update, but not much.

5.) As you more experienced using the Oculus, understanding it, and with PC. You may consider Oculus Tray Tool. (I wouldn't. But that is my opinion).

6.) I do have a 1080ti, and their is one pull down menu "1080ti/2070". I did use that. And it helped mess up my Oculus, with other changes. Thank goodness for "Oculus debug tool." I was able to put all back, to default.

7.) Just plug a USB 3.2 type-C into motherboard. Only changes you need is in DCS options as a newbee.

**************************************************************************************************

The Way I run DSC using Oculus.

8.) First time using the Oculus to PC in running DCS. You have to load it up, go to options. Select VR (enable), enable this that (Not in DCS atm). Exit DCS.

9.) On PC, load up "Oculus" Software. Turn on "Unknown Sources"

10.) Turn on you Oculus (hooked up to PC using 3.2 type-Cable).

12.) When all done. Load up DCS from the PC. Not Oculus.

13.) Have fun! See the beauty. May adjust settings to your liking. 🙂

OTT is just a third party interface for ODT, I don't use it either as it seems a disconnected and likely flawed way of doing the same thing. Only advantage was that settings were saved and they mostly do not in ODT, doesn't bother me though.

Hey guys,

I hope you can help me out a little bit. I have been using my Q2 now for over a year and have never managed to get ASW to look "good" with my AMD 6900XT. Forcing me to turn it off and run at 72 fps to get a smooth and nice ride. This is getting harder and harder since i started flying helicopters especially the hind and apache (jets are not the problem most of the time).

I have tried 72, 80 and 90Hz and using ASW but i get artifacts/jelly especially on the side and around buildings. I have been reading and some are saying it is AMD but i hope there is a solution out there? If not i only have two expensive options which is to buy a new graphics card or a new headset... 😕

Thanks and english is my second language so the grammar might be a bit off.

Hi folks. I have DCS and F/18 and Occulus Rift...when I start F18 i see the jet on the runway for a second them the game crashes (just stops). One time it worked and I was able to sit in the parked jet. But just once, what is going on, any ideas?

My car won't start . Any ideas ? That's pretty much what you're asking . No one can help you if you don't supply basic info like specs , settings and preferably , crash logs .

Had a quick question about the Rift S. Is it possible to reduce the amount of "jiggling" when looking around? I hardly notice it until I put on a HMD in an aircraft and it becomes very apparent. I'm curious if this is just a Rift S thing or its across all VR platforms.

One day in DCS... Vipers will fly along side Tomcats... Bugs with Superbugs, Tiffy's with Tornado's, Fulcrums with Flankers and Mirage with Rafales...

:)The Future of DCS is a bright one:)

Yeah, I googled jiggling and certainly am not seeing thingies on my VR, but if you mean the constant tiny movements that's your head doing it (it's real nad normal, people just don't notice it IRL) and DCS does not smoothen it out. Get used to it - more bearable the higher the res, higher fps and more AA.

I uploaded the log file, I appreciate your help...as far as my system, I have intel i7 - 8700K 3.7GHz, MPG Z390 Mobo, 16Gb memory, and a RTX 2070 super video card, and Occulus Rift.

Looks fine, but is it the log just after the crash? Are you overclocking your CPU or GPU? Do you have problems with any other game or system instability?

That is referred to as "Jitter". Do a search for that and see if it helps.

OK, so for some reason this morning everything worked fine...I was doing free flight using VR in an F/A 18, pretty cool. Now all I have to do is learn how to fly a F18!

Posted

No go with this, game only worked that 1 time in VR...it always runs to the screen of the parked F18 for a second then closes to Oculus menu...very frustrating...here is the log file again if someone could take another look at it I would appreciate it...

Log does not show anything unusual... beside exiting for no reason.

Hey gang,

Just wanted to see what the current best practice for oculus Rift is in DCS? Running a 3070TI with high end PC that has absolutely no issues with any other software. I'm finding variable results in DCS, sometimes with ah64 getting down to single digit frames. I started using OTT and following some guides but its all pretty frustrating.

I also see OpenXR talked about but have no idea if this even helps with the Rift?

Any tips would be appreciated.

cheers

I guess that if you don't use SteamVR, Oculus is already set as OpenXR runtime.
But i could be wrong and the message below means something else.

Hi,

Is this a topic for Quest 2 as well ? Then maybe the title should be changed?

What I wonder for DCS, I use ASW with it. Now, do you use 72Hz or 90Hz and why? I am in 72hz for now as maybe it will improve fps? Not sure though.

Also, do you use airlink or link? Will I get more fps with link instead of airlink?

btw do you know where I can find a guide for DCS settings in VR that will suit well a Q2 headset with an RTX 3080 and an i7 10700k cpu?

Thanks

Hi, I think many posts about the Q2 are relevant here now that the rift is quite old.

I use Q2 with ASW at 80Hrz. Lower will be easier to for your computer to run. I personally find 72 uncomfortable on my eyes so I go with 80.

To me airlink and link perform the same. Airlink success depends on your home network set-up. I use link for extended battery life (I have Internal battery only)

For settings you should find some in the thread. I very much doubt any two will be the same.

Keep your PC background tasks and applications to the bare minimum.

I noticed also that when you increase refresh rate, the default 1.0 rendering resolution below lowers down...

Also the app recommands the 72hz with my computer specs but dunno why, with an i7 10700k, 64 Gb RAM and an RTX 3080, what do you need to have 90 hz as recommanded? 🙂

I think it always recommends 72, I guess that will always been the best performance. It does on my system 3090+9900ks

I set that slider to max. I can run it but any more would be too much. Ignore the 1.X values they are meaningless and have nothing to do with the resolutions. Set this manually, working your way up. At 72hr I would expect you could max it, and tweak performance in the game settings.

I will also try 90 hz.

btw in oculus tray tool, for ASW settings, we have auto, and also adaptative (unsure what it is) and then 45/30/18. But ok for 90 hz, then half that is 45, but then 30 means 60hz and 18 means 36hz, those are strange values.

About the resolution below I have set it up to auto. Think I should remove auto and select it myself?

Thanks
