Buzzles Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Kev2Go is right in saying it's an annoyance. It's a minor one sure, but it'll be magnified if Normandy were to come out before the unified 2.5 is ready and 2.0 sees more maps. Hopefully 2.5 will be done shortly. I can only imagine ED are chomping at the bit to get it out so they only have to support one version. Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!
MegOhm_SD Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 (edited) no but it is inconvenient having to quit one running build of a game, and hop into another just to play on another map, and takes up extra unnecessary hard drive space. Well it appears you have plenty of drive space with your 1TB SSD and 1TB HDD. If not, its time to declutter! I thought I had read Normandy could go into 2.0 if necessary. Kev2go Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 (edited) Well, as MegOhm said, it is like having two games installed Battlefield: Vietnam installed for Vietnam and Battlefield 3 for the different maps... Unfortunately you can't just copy the old Battlefield maps into the newest iteration of the series and have the better graphics magically enhancing the old maps. You will have the same inconvenience of two separate installs and waste hard drive space? From what I've enjoyed so far with 4 DCS installations in parallel, it is absolutely worth the "waste"... ;) um not its not the same...... very bad analogy. cant quite compare at all. battlefield 3 is a different game. newer game, newer engine. difference is both games dont have the same content installed, wihslt in DCS the different build support the same ground assests, air defenses, and same aircraft. No having a differnet launcher for DCS maps would be more akin to having 2 instances of Battlefield 3 same content, but just 2 different maps. OFC the end goal with 2.5 is to have a unified launcher to support more than 1 map, but until then its 100% understandable why some people want to abstain from having both. ( or 3) if you count the Beta version of 1.5. Not everyone has multiple hardrives or enough hardrive space, even if some of us ( such as myself do). IM just suportive and understanding the case of others here, not myself. If Normandy comes out before unification, thatl mean yet another launcher? hopefully ED be able to at least be able to compromise for an interim solution, to make Normandy available forin 2.0 alpha client, to save us from having to need a 4th launcher. Exactly what 1.5 is.. old engine plus some limited effect upgrades vs. DCS 2.0 with complete new engine and all new effects, performance enhancements and high detail mesh supported. Which is exactly the reason why the old Caucasus map is incompatible with the new engine in 2.0 and ED is making a more or less new Caucasus map for the merge. And just for the record, I have a single SSD, no need for multiple hard drives Edit: and there is no "launcher" for the game anymore. It's a checker for upgrades and version. The game launches a single instance since 1.5 Believe me, it is more like the old DCS with the old Caucasus map and the new DCS with Nevada and hopefully the Normandy 44 and the new Caucasus map getting added soon. Later new maps like Straight of Hormuz etc. will integrate into DCS 2.x. As soon as the new Caucasus map is ready for 2.x (new engine) we won't need 1.5 with the old engine anymore. ...but I'm just repeating what Wags said multiple times in posts, newsletters etc. Edited December 23, 2016 by shagrat Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)

shagrat Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 So let me get this right, soon 1.5 will be obsolete..once all the changes are made...if so sort of good to know, but will we still be able to use 1.5 once the move over to all Edge engines format...??? I guess it will come as a normal update, like the switch from 1.2 to 1.5... So it should be easy to skip the "update". I also guess, we will see the merge coming to either 2.0 openalpha or 1.5 openbeta first, like the Nevada map. So it would be even easier to keep 1.5 stable, or if necessary, revert back to 1.5.x Please, don't nail me on this, it is what I have read and heard from info's on this forum and Wags videos, so I may be wrong. But this is the most likely "update" path I can see, based on the information available. assafm25 Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 I run both...Neither confusing nor frustrating at all. People are alot smarter than you suspect. Its not Rocket Science running two separate Sims.
