Mad Dog 7.62 Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 I know I for one, am not in a rush to buy WWII modules without a WWII map and appropriate ground and AI units. And a WWII map does us no good without 2.5. So much ED needs to get done...... With a small team, everything takes a little longer. They are no doubt painfully aware of your frustration right now, as they are bound to feel exactly the same way. 2.5 and the Normandy map are coming. In the meantime, you could be learning how to fly tail draggers - which are a real handful, and a huge reward to fly well. After all, grass is green on all maps, and when you're upside down in a heap beside the runway, you can't see if Caen looks any different to Sochi or Vegas!

There are WW II ground unit mods available, as well as WW II bomber mods (B-17, He-110, DC-3)... If you want to, you can have a pretty convincing scenario for escort/intercept of bombers, skirmishes, the occasional scramble and even ground attacks on tanks and vehicle convoys. ;) Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)

With a small team, everything takes a little longer. I am quite well aware of that. I have been around since the Flanker days, up through Black Shark and the original A-10C Nevada debacle, and on to the current days. And I am well aware of the "it'll be done when its done" philosophy. So what was proposed to be out by the end of 2016? DCS 2.5, the F/A-18, the Normandy map, and a CVN if I recall correctly. I realize ED has a lot of irons in the fire, but when you build a house you don't put the roof on before you build the foundation. Right now we have a lot of people running DCS 2 only, others running 1.5, some running both....and I appreciate they are trying to give us a better product with things like the upgrades to the Nevada map.....but the current state of multiple, incompatible versions is a mess. Imagine you are a newcomer to DCS World....how confusing and frustrating would all this be? joebloggs Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 (edited) I have to agree with Mad Dog. I was going to purchase the Spitfire, but I'm going to wait for the Normandy map now. The Nevada map was put back so many times, I just don't want to end up with any more modules that don't suit the environment. Yes it might be good to learn the Spitfire, but I purchased all the other World war 2 aircraft and haven't bothered with them because of the map situation. I thought there might be news with the release of the Spitfire about Normandy, but no news from past experience could mean we are waiting months. I'm not bothered by the wait times, but I might as well purchase the Spitfire when there is a proper map to fly it on though. I thought I read somewhere that they were concentrating on getting the Normandy map finished, is this correct? Edited December 17, 2016 by joebloggs

solidGad Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Can't wait for the Normandy map but just got the Spitfire last night and it's phenomenal. What a aircraft to fly. For immersion most of my 'flying' takes place in an alternate universe that has 1940's planes and 1960's helicopters so the lack of the Normandy map hasn't really bothered me yet. But I do look forward to it for greater WW2 era immersion.

I run both...Neither confusing nor frustrating at all. People are alot smarter than you suspect. Its not Rocket Science running two separate Sims. So whats the difference between running 2.0 or 1.5 compared to say running DCS and even another "game" other than the fact 2.0 and 1.5 have the same modules? There is so much information here along with help from this great community, newcomers get up to speed pretty quick. Well, as MegOhm said, it is like having two games installed Battlefield: Vietnam installed for Vietnam and Battlefield 3 for the different maps... Unfortunately you can't just copy the old Battlefield maps into the newest iteration of the series and have the better graphics magically enhancing the old maps. You will have the same inconvenience of two separate installs and waste hard drive space? From what I've enjoyed so far with 4 DCS installations in parallel, it is absolutely worth the "waste"... ;) Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
