A buddy and I noticed this the other day when we were doing carrier practice in the su-33.... he was hosting and everything was super delayed (8 sec or so) - wings folding/flaps/tailhook/etc.

Unfortunately I have no video on the matter, but I've come across several instances as a defender where to me it seems a missile should definitely hit me as it flies straight to my aircraft, but it doesn't. This has happened from time to time on our private training servers with 2-6 players and 10-30ms pings.

Flying ground units is also happening

 

Checked the F10 map view and noticed moving vechs moving super fast ...

then they were moving over the sea clicked and F7 viewed them ... flying super russian tanks

Yes, the multiplayer suck factor is at an all time high with the new 1.5.7 version. It wasn't so bad a few versions back, right?

 

I wonder if the issue is related to poor 1.5.7 performance. I haven't seen such bad warping since the last changes to net code (2 years ago or so).

Try a few MLRS or Smerch units firing and see what happens...

Just thinking, how many of you use a custom autoexec.cfg for network traffic handling?

 

The 104th server still has one in place too, here is the contents of my file and the one from the 104th server.

I think ED would have to host as they would run a special version of DCS to record issues and problems I would assume, but perhaps missions and such might be requested, I will let you know when we get closer.

Likely be hosted on ED Servers so devs can have access to Tracks and Debug tools during the test.

Data if this helps in pin pointing this:

1. Ping limits - I only allow better pings than 250ms (bigger you get kicked)

2. Mission has about 15 moving ground vechs at any time (spawned and following road way points)

3. About 12-15 modern jets AI controlled flying about, a few 50's jets and a couple of ww2 fighters (all AI controlled)

4. 70 stationary ground vechs for target practice (spawned - when they get blown up)

5. Have maybe 20-30 players connected, some doing A2A or A2G attacks some flying about learning stuff

 

Issues observed

1. When using F10 maps view, you see aircraft warping on the map, when you F2 view them they are doing weird stuff like flying at odd angles

2. When viewing ground units moving on the roads, they sometimes do weird stuff like slide across the map and are over the sea, F2 view them ... flying tanks etc

This loss of sync causes much problems, its terrible if you are trying to A2A guns, or A2A missiles because you fire on a plane then the bugger suddenly is not where you think he will be :-(

 

These lag spikes happen for 10-20 seconds and sometimes things go back to normal

Other times its just keeps going until you restart the server

 

Proper Server

Xeon processor

32G RAM

1Gbit internet

Hosted in a data center

Server gets restarted every 3 or 6 hours

 

1.5.7 does the above

 

1.5.6 does not

johnny, do you have any artillery firing or radars running on the ground vehicles? We found that MLRS/Smerch and Radar unitsl like the Patriot contribute a lot to the warping.

We started a custom mission the other night I was in a Huey, squad mate was in the Gazelle, I flew next to him and parked and waited for him, said i would follow him when he took off. Sat there for 15 mins watching his chopper just sitting there with the engine running, eventually said are you ready, he replied, i am already at WP1, where are you, i replied sitting in front of your helo watching you.

I have to check which units were in our server map (I believe it was Patriot). Whenever said mission would load up, connecting to the server became slow (several minutes to log on). After reaching the slot selection screen the game slows down. I could select any slow normally, but my player name would not move to the slot from the spectators list, until several minutes had passed. After getting into a cockpit, all moving units (player controlled or otherwise) can be seen frozen in the air (or on the ground) and warping over great distances at random time intervals.

 

I do believe this was last noted in 1.5.7. before we took out the units causing it. After removing the units server has been playable.

To be honest if this isnt fixed soon, there will be one less person who continues with DCS, I am not being horrible in any way shape or form but the constant bugs that seem to affect the end user without much communications from ED is a little steep.

 

Again, I know there is frustration with this, but the extra commentary, especially the threatening of "I am out of here" doesn't help anyone get things done. The transition towards 2.5 is gonna be bumpy, this is one of the bumps, ED will work to get it figured out. Your help and support is appreciated incredibly...

Sorry, Was a little frustrated after a long day at work :)

 

Anyways, I think the thing that frustrates us the most, coming from an end-user perspective, rather than the bug itself, is the lack of communications from ED and the fact its taken this thread for some action to be taken. I would be perfectly happy with

 

"Hey chaps, we have had a few issues internally and are struggling a little with the net-code, things will be a little rough until we get things fixed but please be patient and we will get this resolved as soon as possible"

 

They would have set expectations and the brunt of people would, i should imagine be perfectly happy.

 

Anyways, thanks man, hope they get it sorted soon as missing DCS :)

Actually, in most cases ED relies on MP feedback more than anything, you guys in the trenches flying big missions online on a regular basis is better feedback than ED can generate most of the time. So threads like this are important as long as there is sufficient data and info to report it.

 

I would personally love to see regular ED run MP tests, its not always feasible, so ED relies on all of you. That is why there is a bug section and why its explained what ED needs.

But I do have some AA units on the ground that have radars

About 15 in total, about half of them would be tracking human pilots

Its not ping its the netcode.

 

+1, most of the people who play on our server(and there are alot) pings are below 100ms

Right now highest ping from a player is 70ms

Sounds great ...... but there is nothing that I can tell being logged in the logs to indicate what is going wrong, without more debug info being dumped out to the log we cannot help you find out what is wrong with MP in 1.5.7

 

One thing that could help would be better logging time stamping eg time date as well as usual marker

I ask players to type LAG

into chat when server goes crazy so I can tie LAG events to time, but I cannot cross reference the log file without better markers

Sith this is not a dig nor a rant, so please do not take it as such but please do not misconstrue passion for threats, IMHO that only serves as being inflammatory.

 

I know many of the people whom have posted here and they like me have put many hours into online group missions only to discover that all the effort was wasted due to a plethora of bugs.

They have a passion for this sim, as have I but tolerance levels are dwindling.

 

Please remember without the passion this community would not thrive. You and ED should now realise that many of the issues we encounter and report and the lack of communication associated with that, have now resulted in pent up frustrations rising to the surface. The MP community is feeling let down and it's want is to vent. Understandable in the circumstances or at least I feel it is.

 

People, long term advocates of the sim, are starting to walk away from DCS and ED need to understand why. It's not just because of this one MP issue, its many of the core functional elements. Yes the road was going to be bumpy on the route to 2.5 but mountainous was not on the agenda. Please remember we in the community also impart a great deal of time and effort in creating environments for our groups to fly in. Cheers.
