Esac, it's the other way around, he's on the 2.5 release and wants to go to 2.5.1OB... I think :D.

The command would be "DCS_updater.exe update @openbeta" then.

Hey,

I am trying to switch from 2.5 beta to 2.5 stable. I have tried using the suggested command in CMD (or rather PowerShell) from the bin folder, however as you can see in the attached image I only get the message that the current version (which I'm fairly sure is the beta) is up to date. My DCS main screen says I am running version 2.5.1.16543.

Any ideas?

Yeah I had that too. My file structure though shows;

.../Saved games/DCS/....

No mention of ..../DCSopenbeta/....

This leads me to believe it is the release version.

Cheers!

Doesn't this Powershell thingy, whatever it is, require a bit different command than standard Command Prompt? I seem to recall reading something along these lines here.

If in doubt, I would just install SkateZilla's utility to switch between versions easier.

Skatezillas program saya everything checks out, but still I guess my install is bugged?

Yes, you need to put .\ before what you would put in CMD.

I get errors using cmd. Says something about not finding the exe or some such.

Sorry for my unscientific reply.

If you're using PowerShell put .\ beforehand, i.e.

.\DCS_updater.exe update @release (or@openbeta or whatever you want)

I downloaded that just now and it is working as I type this, it seems to be doing the right thing

I'm confused

Hi Guys,

I somehow ended up with both the stable and open beta.

The stable is version 2.5.0.15385 and open beta 2.5.1.165543.

The question is which should I use?

I was after the Chinese asset pack and the cockpit graphic in beta was poor compared to the stable version but he version numbers would imply the beta is newer!!!

any advice is appreciated.

regards

You could use both. The beta version is for testing but will have more new content BUT may be full of bugs that you then just have to accept! If you can't stand flying and discover new bugs all the time you should stay with the release version (2.5.0). When the open beta is found stable and reasonable "bug free" the release version will be updated with that build.

Thanks HiJack,

I'm more concerned about space on my SSD waiting for F18 and Persian Gulf map so I'll take your advice and stick with stable.

That is a good choice and when everything works the release version is usually updated soon after the openbeta. You can also switch the version you have installed between the two versions without having two installed and is not difficult. That may be a workaround for you depending on your download speed, it is quite a load of files updated every time.

I'm trying to update the release version to open beta as well

I tried the Left Shift/Right mouse on the DCS bin folder. Windows 10 doesn't have option for MSDOS but I do have a POWER shell. Opened that, copied in command for

DCS_updater.exe update @openbeta

and get an error

DCS_updater.exe : The term 'DCS_updater.exe' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or

operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try

again.

Power Shell uses a slightly different command syntax than the MSDOS command line interface, which is still available in Windows 10. There are many ways to open it, one of them is by opening the windows start menu and type "cmd". You then have to navigate to the DCS bin folder using the "cd" command and then you can use the updater command.

Here is a detailed guide on how to do that: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030

One more ?

my home internet is terrible and has data caps.

Can I just update the install I have on a work PC to the open beta and copy the folder to a thumb drive, then copy over my main directory at home? Will I fubar my FC3 module? Should I deactivate the module first?
