I saw some videos and pictures of landing static objects over the carrier, how can I do that? is using the mission editor?

I'm pretty sure it's in and working, I just can't figure it out to save my life.

As a work around I pinched the carrier take off instant action, changed all the Lot 20 F/A-18Cs our for the old model, got rid of my flight and moved myself to the ramp...works great and no FPS loss from the crazy polygon count of the Lot 20 model.

Hopefully someone smarter than me can let us know how it's actually done, I can't find anything in the mission editor.

EDIT - I cracked it, you link static objects to a unit as before but their X,Y location on deck is relative to each other. If you open the carrier take off instant action you'll see what I mean. Start this mission and look at the carrier deck from a birds eye view, then jump back to the mission editor and you'll see the static objects appear in the same pattern. The only issue is there is no frame of reference as to where the deck stops so there is an element of trial and error. Still, it's a step forward.

I appreciate the above explanation is sh*t, happy to clarify if you need it.

I think they are WIP judging by another thread...I'd say best thing to do right now would be to make a copy of the .miz file (say carrier launch quickstart) open it up in the editor then you can play around with the statics there without breaking anything (I changed all the liveries for example with no issues).

Cheers

Here's a mission I created using the Carrier Takeoff mission. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3510411&postcount=23

Also, this is what is looks like: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3509516&postcount=21

If you look at the original file in ME, you can see the outlining of the ship the static objects make. It can give you an idea of how to place them yourself. I think the key is the map scaling. Scale it to 100feet and start from there. Whoever created these mission from scratch is a genius, because I would've never figured out how to get started. It's a tedious process for something that should be so simple.

How to crowd-up the Stennis?

Love our new bird!

Been teaching myself how to get off and back on the Stennis and its a very boring boat so I thoght I'd try and add some static mates to it. But how? What I did was adding a bunch of static F/A-18's and a chopper and then set their "LINK UNIT" to the carrier. But nothing shows up when I start the mission.

Also, are there any plans to make the Stennis a bit more like the full experience with yellow-, green- (etc) shirts going about their business and doing real procedures?

Cheers!

Actually no. If you place them yourself then the static object starts below ocean.

I think ED did it from the code backend.

IDK about that. I was able to place one from scratch but it was too tedious to get it in the right place, but you may be right.

Is the ship moving with the static objects or is it stationary?

It's moving. Along with the other ships in the fleet.

What I did is take the carrier from the .miz file from the carrier take off instant action and make my own mission out of it. I changed a couple of the planes and deleted a couple etc but it all works fine.

This was also my method. However, in multiplayer only the host can see the static objects!

It’s a shame you can’t save the static object as part of a template. That would make generating missions in different maps a cinch.

Modify the carrier the way you want it and use that mission file as a base file for future missions. Unfortunately, you'll have to rinse and repeat for each map, but once they're created they're there.

We have asked for this for over 10 years. Don't expect it to happen any soon.

Wow, I also thought about that but: do you think it will cost more performance calculations having them as AI rather than static?

Might be.

Interesting question. I played around with the original carrier takeoff mission and managed to get a few additional aircraft on deck and it looked good. However, I noticed pretty quickly that I started getting a lot of crashes/blue screens with that mission. As soon as I removed the additional assets, the crashes stopped. I also noticed very high CPU utilisation with the unstable mission.

I suspect that we're just going to have to wait for DCS to develop this in their own time, as "hacking it" may end up causing more problems down the line.

The solution. Bottom of Map. Click Show Objects. It is a little ICON of a tank in the editor. Near the Sat buttom.

Mate, if you're getting blue screens, there's a hardware issue at play. More assets should just worsen performance, not hard crash your system.

It sounds like you have an unstable overclock somewhere or a component is running in an unstable fashion, be it getting too hot or something else, when it hits high utilization.
