I wouldn't want ED to spend a second of time or resources on a map like this, but if there was a dedicated team of modders I'd definitely support it and likely use it. Don't know how combat would be handled with a dragon though; It's a reptile so little to no heat signature, highly agile and can change direction almost instantaneously, not sure if a radar could pick it up either... none the less it sounds more interesting than it would likely be if actually implemented.

An Australia map would be nice so the Aussies could get revenge for their defeat in the Great Emu War of 1932. I mean, basically it should be enough to scale up the Nevada map, add a couple of birds, Kangaroos and a ton of spiders and that's pretty much Australia, right?

I am indeed that innocent. I get the addition would not be popular with a certain segment of the current user base. I am actually surprised the idea is as well received as it has been in this thread. I expected to get flamed to hell and back.

 

 

That even a percentage of the posters on this forum are receptive tells me there is likely a huge market out there.

 

 

I honestly don't believe there is any chance of this, but that doesn't stop me from very occasionally buying lottery tickets.

I'd like half as much as you. If it were possible without an ED 3rd party license, if it were just possible to have the tools made public, middle earth, New Zealand, France 1918, it wouldn't matter what could be made, just the fact that it wasn't about money and intellectual rights, but community creation and possibility.

didnt know in middle Earth they had airfields, paved roads , highways, railroads, Factories , Oil RIgs ( Industrialization), electricity, or let alone cities made from modern building materials with a multitude of office buildings & Apartment complex's ( or similar like structures) taller than 10 stories.

This whole request baffles me. DCS is, though an entertainment software, a simulation. There are a ton of things missing or lacking that fit that description, including maps. Adding fantasy/entirely fictional & non-plausible material is not something that fits.

 

DCS main demographic are people who first and foremost look for authenticity and realism. You can see that from the sheer amount of rivet counters and threads delving into the most minute detail on aircraft and systems. If you want a fantastical flight experience there are games for that.

 

This request in my opinion is so detached from DCS developement reality, focus and priorities that I don't even know where to begin...

We've already got an Eastern and Western European map. We also have North American and Middle Eastern theatres. Plus we've got the Falklands and Syria on the way and I'm pretty sure I heard about a Pacific map in the pipes too. And if you think you're gonna get Nam for free, think again...

 

What we need next is somewhere in Africa! Firstly, almost all of the current DCS aircraft have fought in Africa. And so have a lot of the up and comers like the Mi-24 and MiG-19. Ethiopian Su-27s have even shot down Eritrean MiG-29S's and SAAF Mirages have downed Cuban MiG-21's for example.

 

Places like Angola offer everything from Savannah and desert to wetlands and dense jungle. And all within the confines of an area no bigger than Georgia. The terrain can go from vast flat lands to high mountain peaks and escarpments and provides ample opportunity to create any type of mission scenario you could think of. Plus it's just a beautiful landscape in general.

 

It also has the added benefit of not being very built up. Cities are usually quite small, and most settlements are just shanty towns or small villages that sparsely populating the landscape anyways. This would not only speed up development time but also be easier on your system.

 

And speaking of system performance, unlike all of our other theatres, African conflicts are numerous and low intensity. Trying to create realistic conflicts with most of our other maps is basically impossible because the number of units necessary to really make a good war scenario plausible for a map like the Caucuses or the Persian Gulf would crash even the beastiest of machines.

 

African armies are lucky if they have half a dozen tanks and a pair of serviceable aircraft these days. So mission building would also be a lot less of a task if realism is what you crave... And I do!
