i do not think this will be the actual "free second map" as it doesn't meet all the conditions matt specified (wasn't a big WWII theater)

but i *def* do think ED should develop this map ----- think cold-war CVBG vs soviet forces scenarios

The very first post in this thread should already answer your question.

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

DCS Free Map II

TAIWAN

Formosa (Taiwan) Air Battle 1944 - (IJN vs USN Third Fleet)

Taiwan Strait Crisis 1958 - (F-86 vs MiG-15)

Modern Phase I - (PLAAF vs F-5, Mirage, F-16)

Modern Phase II - (PLA Navy vs USAF/USN/USMC)

+1 to the Taiwan. I think DCS needs a SE Asian map this one or Vietnam lots of modules already at hand plus the potential for more. From a commercial point of view would potentially spark more interest for people in that region to use DCS.

its got to be important in WWII and cold war

Wonder if it could be Armenia and Azerbaijan. Pushes the Caucasus map in the direction of the Persian Gulf.

Nagorno Karabah? That ill make me really happy.

I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!

The Taiwan strait is something I'm onboard. Although, I'd like to see the Caucasus map expanded into a Black Sea map to include a detailed Crimea and Southern Ukraine. Could recreate quite a few missions from the Ukraine campaign from the old Jane's USNF titles.

F/A-18C; A-10C; F-14B; Mirage 2000C; A-4E; F-16C; Flaming Cliffs 3

would love to see the Region around Bosnia (Serbia, Kosovo, Croatia, Montenegro) maybe with some airbases in italy. spot on for the incoming f-16

That would be awesome but if there'd be a map to go with the F16, i wouldn't expect it to be free.

The free map will most likely be something that somewhat fits all the modules we have (more or less realistically).

I'd be the 1st preordering a Balkans map if it would come following the F16

I think the free maps are tied to MAC. So it should cover something for the MAC planes.

Good options would be:

A 'Med' map including the eastern Med- Israel, Syria, Egypt, Libya, with maybe portions of Italy and the Adtriatic involved.

Such a map has dual utility. Not only does it represent a major Cold War hot spot, modern troubles in Syria, the Arab-Israeli wars, and Libya, once the geography part is done, you have a foundation to do a dual version of the map- one for WWII, and one for the Cold War --> Present era.

Such a map would be good for both land and naval based warfare scenarios, as well.

North Cape region- basically the same region used in Janes F/A-18. Good for naval scenarios, and also good for some land-based stuff, particularly a Russian/Soviet conflict striking into Norway. I wouldn't mind seeing the Janes campaign remade for DCS, particularly with the Tomcat and Hornet modules available. That map would potentially be a good home for Viggen fans, as well.

GIUK gap. Iceland, the Faeroes, Scotland, and the western coast of Norway. (Vestfjord and such). Great naval / cold war map. Probably limited utilities for land-based warfare.

Western European map, centered on Germany, including the Baltics. Good for some modern scenarios, and the classic European WWIII (Fulda Gap) scenario map. Limited utility for naval warfare.

And Mig-21s were used all over Jugoslavia too.

But IDK if you'd get a free map on the same part of the world as Caucasus, maybe it'll be the DRONK region ... did I got that right? Democratic Republic of North Korea ... wait, DPRK right.

Modules: A-10C I/II, F/A-18C, Mig-21Bis, M-2000C, AJS-37, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, P-47, FC3, SC, CA, WW2AP, CE2. Terrains: NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf, Syria

They could just expand the current Caucasus map to the EMC to incorporate Turkey etc in detail. Combining both regions together would make for some eye-wateringly good scenarios

The one small problem with that is that the cold war was over for 20 years if you are talking about DCS aircraft. A10C (2005) F/A-18C (~2003?) Su-33 (1998)...

A-10, NOT the A-10C ;)

So A-10A would be there.... With Su-25A, Mig-23MLA, Su-27S etc etc.

Hornet would be more difficult but it is more about stations loadout than anything else, major difference being the TAMMAC moving map upgrade, otherwise just disable AIM-9X, JHMS etc and you are in 1991 configuration.

Pretty sure many of the radar features and link16 weren't on those earlier 87 era hornets (those that fought in the gulf)

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

That could be start of the global map, by making it in pieces and combining the interesting parts with higher details.

Point is that you can't really see those in cockpit to ruin the experience. And such would anyways be nice to be possible disable automatically when mission date is older than the feature.
