baltic_dragon Posted May 4, 2019 Author Posted May 4, 2019 I wonder if you are planning for last minute fumes AAR as well baltic_dragon? Perhaps ED would be willing to model AI MIG project 1.44... for this campaign ? We spoke at length about AAR with Kevin and Jell-O... it is too important aspect of carrier based aviation to leave it out, so yes. I know it may put some people off (though we are thinking about the ways out) but if we strive for realism - we need to have the AARs. So better start practicing ;) For more information, please visit my website. If you want to reach me with a bug report, feedback or a question, it is best to do this via my Discord channel. Was listening to an interview with an F-105 wild weasel pilot and they would refuel pretty much straight after take off and then several times between Thailand and North Vietnam and back. Looking forward to it!
Expo Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 AAR suggestion A suggestion for AAR in the campaign: a way to make it easier is to have long straight runs for the tanker, so it doesn't move around, bank, or change speed as much. I know this also isn't quite realistic but maybe it's a reasonable concession to make for play-ability. :helpsmilie:
victorlima01 Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 My 2 cents: I really struggled with AAR in the beginning, and coming to grips with it has made for a whole new experience. There are plenty of tutorials and people willing to help those who are having difficulty, like I did. Learning air refueling in the end made me an all-around btter pilot and got me into form flying, to the point of joining a virtual squadron. So I think people should just take the time to learn it. Honestly, if someone buys the Hornet module for DCS they're looking for "as real as it gets". AAR is a part of pretty much every single combat sortie out there. I for one am looking forward to it being an integral part of this campaign
Home Fries Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 If you have to do AAR, it might as well be the Hornet, i.e. the easiest aircraft to tank. Thing is that once you get the sight picture down, it doesn't matter if the tanker enters a turn. I've found myself on the basket just holding position, and I didn't even realize I went into a turn until I glanced at the pitch lines on my HUD. -Home Fries My DCS Files and Skins My DCS TARGET Profile for Cougar or Warthog and MFDs F-14B LANTIRN Guide
Dun_Aenghus Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 Even though lots of people enjoy the challenge of AAR, it might be an idea for ED to introduce an automated AAR mode similar to the autostart option. Sure it would be a cheat but might be beneficial for some pilots. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

baltic_dragon Posted May 10, 2019 Author Posted May 10, 2019 I’ve just decided to add AAR practice as part of the campaign at the early stage - been testing it in M2, good fun :) the only problem I have: I wanted to completely get rid of stock callsigns and AI radio, but guess there is no work around for the AAR (there is for wingnman and works pretty well, but let me keep it as a surprise for now). So a general question: would you rather have a cool callsign like Raven or Spartan, and pretend you didn’t hear that “Springfield, request rejoin” or would you rather see me sticking to the stock ones for consistency? ATC will use bort numbers AFAIK, and I am not using the built in JTAC nor (most probably) AWACS, going for a more advanced system... :) For more information, please visit my website. Sarge55 Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Wait... "Springfield" isn't cool? :( I'd rather not mix up call signs, stick to what the game is capable of. veenee Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Callsigns are usually not super cool in real life anyway, so... :-) So many modules, so little time... www.mikphotography.com
Yurgon Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 I'm all for new callsigns! I know the in-game callsigns are limited to just a few, so for tanker calls and some other AI interaction, it's unavoidable unfortunately. But for the "real" callsign for the mission, as used by all the other human voiced assets, it would be so cool to have something fresh!
GTFreeFlyer Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 I agree, new callsigns that match the book. I can ignore the AI callsign/voice. I understand it is a DCS limitation and not an error on behalf of the mission creator. Gierasimov Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 I think with all your effort ED should add needed callsign(s), say Raven to the game and problem would be solved. I always enjoyed your custom voiceovers with different callsigns, however, I would keep either custom or stock but not a mix. What if the new ATC that is being created for carrier ops is propagated quickly to AWACS, and other aspects of a game? baltic_dragon Posted May 12, 2019 Author Posted May 12, 2019 AWACS is not a big problem - with Hornet’s datalink it should be fine to only use he custom - made one. However I see your point and I am still thinking how to solve it. One way out is to use custom callsigns when there is no AAR envisaged but again, you will have a tanker available just in case for most recoveries.. I will need to give it some more thought:) For more information, please visit my website. Gierasimov Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Could also build these missions with whatever you had planned and accept the fact that AAR will be a stock one due to its limitations. Is it realistic to expect ED to help you a little bit with this one ? baltic_dragon Posted May 17, 2019 Author Posted May 17, 2019 A quick screenshot from testing a new concept for Raven One campaign: setting your wingman as separate flight and giving him contextual orders via F-10 menu. This will allow for more sophisticated actions and more immersion, as whoever you are flying with will speak with the same voice throughout the mission (especially if it is Psycho or Olive - would't like her to have male's voice when responding to standard wingman orders!). So far the results are really promising and if it works fine, I intend to use this option in most (if not all) of the missions throughout the campaign. For more information, please visit my website.
