Oculus Rift S With DCS World Discussion

Wags

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am about to buy an Oculus Rift S. Please help me listing the basic steps to make it work with DCS world (Open Beta, NON Steam Version).

Currently I have the Sony PSVR and I do the following:

- Connect all PSVR cables, etc

- Enable VR in DCS World Settings (Open Beta, Non Steam Version) and exit DCS

- Start iVRy Driver for SteamVR (This launches Steam VR and Steam)

- Start DCS World

What would be the corresponding steps to be able to use the Oculus Rift S with DCS-World-OpenBeta ?

Thank you very much!

-Plug in rift (mines always plugged in)

-open oculus app

-start game in vr mode

(I have a couple background apps I load before starting the game but not needed)

If you switch regularly between regular and be then I suggest using skatezilla’s app which allows you to start in whichever mode you wish without starting and then restarting the game

Connect all cables, open Oculus app and launch DCS from there. No need for SteamVR when you have Oculus.

I haven't finished my upgrade so I can't really play DCS with my Oculus Rift CV1 yet but I still have an issue with the HOTAS not working in V.R.

I'll have my current graphic card replaced by a 1080ti 11GB next Sunday (CEX) but my HOTAS never worked with it yet, I asked tech support for Thrustmaster but no solution yet, what I have tried to so is to link the HOTAS T-16000 to an USB hub, it works just fine in normal mode...

Any tip?

I've heard about a problem between VR vs HOTAS before. Are you plugging them directly or via usb HUB?

I've heard about a problem between VR vs HOTAS before. Are you plugging them directly or via usb HUB?

I have them connected to a HUB now because it didn't work with direct connection before.

The funny thing is that I think I could use the X-Box controller but have no response from the HOTAS as long as long as I play in VR.

My motherboard is brand new and everything works perfectly except in VR, although I have to use JoyTokey, the Thrustmaster package is real bad for the T-1600.

~Ok now I have controls in VR but no ZOOM view, I'll have to check later how to get this done.

Since my VR setting is still very poor due to the RX 5500 XT not really cutting it, I have a poor resolution, I have been through the whole of the Mirage 2000 training mission 1 and it was OK but hard due to the fact that I had to nose dive to read the buttons and knobs.

The 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub works very well and it was cheap, I figured I didn't need to get a USB 3 Hub and that all controls (HOTAS + X-Box controler) would work with it, so I have 3 devices attached to it and I only turn them on when I need to.

So, next chapters will be resolution for cockpit reading and zoom setting in VR, I'll do that as soon as I get the 1080ti.

Further upgrades, Ryzen 7 2700X CPU 8 Core 4.3GHz in one month and an extra 32GB of RAM will help with resolution and overall performances, I understand that VR is complicated but sometimes I wish it wasn't that complex only to play a flight sim...

No you shouldn't need to. But I would wait and see if the 20GB 3080's come in December or at least wait to see what AMD offers. The 3090 is more of a designer's card. Performance gains between 3090 and 3080 for gaming are very small.

No, but if you go for a 3090 you might need to put everything in another case since the 3090 is BIG! Make sure it fits your case.

For sure! Most 3000 series buyers got PCIe 3 MB, it's perfectly compatible and the diffrence is negligeable versus PCIe 4 (based on reports only, since I don't have one myself)

Yep...I see these cards run on PCIe 4x...so my motherboard Z390 have a PCie 3x...do you think that will work with these new cards with on my motherboard?

Oh yes absolutely.

I have an EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 on reserve to put into my Z390 motherboard.

Just hope I can get it before the end of the year lol.

Since some seem to be wondering, I just replaced my 1080 Ti Strix OC by a 3080 FTW3 Ultra.

I haven't really tweaked the settings and all for now but imho, the difference in terms of VR experience is negligible in DCS.

I think the bottleneck is the Rift S's resolution at this stage.

40 vs 80 fps is not something game-changing for a flight sim, and I find it hardly noticeable.

I bought this card because I'm planning on upgrading for a Reverb G2 when it's available. I can't wait!

didn´t you cranck up pixel density at least? You may find some improvement there.

The Rift S is a great VR headset with the exception of the **** audio.

Unfortunately... "Facebook policy will soon require a Facebook account to use your Oculus headset. This is HORRIBLE. It will also be mandatory for every headset that Oculus releases in the future. If you already own a Rift or Quest and want to keep using an Oculus account, it'll work until January 1st, 2023." This is why, despite how impressed I was with the Rift S, I returned it to my local retailer for a refund. Oculus/Facebook you lost me as a customer.

Fits and highly adjustable (but if worn without the headset, it gives to much pressure on my head): Logitech G635

Barely fits (but fits fine without Rift S and good overall feel): Corsair HS70

Mower, I have a Razer Blackshark v2 but haven’t tried it with my Rift S. I’ll try it this afternoon and get back to you (it’s 5 am here in North Carolina and I start my workday at 6).

Logitech G533 fits also quite well over the Rift S. Very good audio (6.1ch, but DCS is not the best game that takes advantage of it) and quite good mic also. I've been using it for almost 4 years, and pretty happy so far. Not that expensive as well.

Update on the connection problem where the Oculus software would not see the device sometimes: Since the software updated to 20.0 and beyond (currently 23.0), i do not have this problem anymore.
