flybull Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 The Hawaiii map would be interesting. I still wanna get my Top Gun on though. late 80s SOCAL, NAS Miramar, San Clemente Is. , El Centro, El Toro, with NAS FALLON and the Ranges also.
Fisherman82 Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 While it wouldn't really fit with a modern theatre of war, I wouldn't mind a Hawaii map. What was that F18 sim called, with a map of Hawaii? Back in the late 90's, early 2000's I think. I actually thought the Flight Model in it was pretty decent. Can't remember if it was a full sim, or just a tech-demo of sort. I don't recall there ever being weapons......... F/A-18 Hornet 3.0 by Graphic Simulations Corp I had a demo of it and dont know if there where weapons in it but I also got the full version and that plenty and also a desert map.
schroedi Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 I don't think Hawaii would be a good idea, because that would be a one country map and the only country which has a reasonable carrier group sits on the the island.
chrisgrind Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 we already have one free map too many. How's that? The price of dcs maps and planes is insane compared to any other game, flight sim or not. The only reason I bought the hornet was cause I could play the game on the free map to check out the game first. Ryzen 5 3600 | 5700 XT | 32gb | NVME

That's one point of view... otoh you have a totally free game, with real world Caucasus map, highly detailed, 4 seasons. You're free to fly infinite hours in russian mud mover (highly advanced flight model + simplified systems, campaign, countless missions, training, manual) or full fidelity WW2 trainer. Both free to play single player or multiplayer, against/with countless AI units and/or other human. Plus powerful ME in your hands so you can create any war (or peaceful) theater you can imagine... forgot something? Oh, yeah, that PC rig you play on is priced way higher than any of those insanely expensive modules. Go have a look at the cost of the add ons for either of the key civilian sims and they try to say that. 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat

Perhaps I don't know what they are then. Prepar3d is $200 USD FSX is $35 AUD, which is $25 USD Large title non flight sims that I actually know (I am actually not a gamer) ARMA, $15 on sale, GTA5 $20 on sale. All my gamer friends didn't believe me when I said it was $105 for the hornet (Australian) and $80 for a map to play it on. I was hoping they'd get into it, but not going to happen. I wonder how much the new MS FSX will be? I am guessing less than $80 a plane/map. Don't get me wrong, I went with DCS cause I wanted the hornet and no-one else is doing it in a combat sim (to my knowledge), and I'll probably buy a map, once I am better at it and get a new computer, cause my 8 year old one doesn't cut it. I still don't get how any of that relates to "one free map too many". By having a free map, it allows people to check it out. Ryzen 5 3600 | 5700 XT | 32gb | NVME

Stratos Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 What is strange and annoying at the same time is that they released the F-16 in a very beta status with a lot of features missing, incomplete 3d model and textures, Damage model, etc.. but seems they don't want to say anything about the map until is ready, or at least this is my perception of the issue. Maps have always been the weakest part of DCS regarding the variety, now that we can get a new one that can open a lots of oportunities they hide it's location. How cool will be to open this Weekend News mail update and see a couple of pictures of the new map and the area they are doing? Is that asking too much? I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
draconus Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 Don't worry, new maps will surely be EA/beta too. Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria

MobiSev Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 I don't want to get a ETA or a release date set in stone, I simply want to know WHERE in the world will be the map placed!! This ^^^ I don't understand why they can't just disclose that...I mean they have already started working on it, and are evidently almost ready to post pictures, so it's not like they would change their minds about the theater. Donut Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 While that looks to be a new map, it doesn't seem like it would fit the key elements listed by Wags... It's always a team decision with our company owner and our CEO having final say. While still too early to announce, key elements of the map must include: 1- Can be converted to both modern day and WWII use. 2- Low overhead, high performance. 3- Geographically laid out to best suit multiplayer matches. 4- Suited for both land-based and carrier ops. 5- Expand into a new part of the world.
