Yes!

Unfortunately, that seems to be the case. Perhaps you can consider moving over to the stand-alone version of DCS, as on ED's Store the F-16 is still with EA discount.

And be quick about it as well

Next week we will announce the release date. Once released though (soon), the 20% discount will end, and it will probably be over a year until we put the Viper in a sale.

Been meaning to ask since about 45 min after the steam store timer went to zero. I was super excited to preorder and like it seems a lot of folks on here I came up a day late and a dollar short.

For reasons I can't recall now I backed myself into the steam corner with DCS. Am I correct in understanding that my steam DLC can be transferred over to standalone? What other benefits are there to the standalone route (I generally stay on the open beta).

You are correct: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/500/#3303126

What other benefits are there to the standalone route (I generally stay on the open beta).

There are several:

1) You can take advantage of sales and offers from both Stores.

2) Your purchase dollar fully support the developers, instead of Steam taking up a 30% cut for themselves.

3) Sometimes DLC appears first on ED's store than on Steam's.

For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra

For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar

Thanks! I am downloading now, and particularly like point #2.

I think one of the reasons for originally going with Steam was the self-updating factor. I assume the DCS update tool I have currently running does the same thing, albeit one must manually launch it?

More to the point: I am very excited to start learning the Viper. :)

When you fire up DCS standalone it will normally check if there is an update. If so it will notify you and you click just update now. (Or not, your call ,))

Edit: Ive had once the update notification did not work, then you use the DCS update execute!

It checks automatically once every 24 hours. You can do it manually as often as you like.

The stand alone version tries to auto-update once per day, the first time you run it on that day.

On my case, I've disabled it, because I use a few Mods and thus prefer to do the update manually as this gives me the opportunity to disable my Mods prior to performing the update.

The updates are usually on Wendsdays and it's very easy to know if this week there is an update or not, as the changelog is published on these Forums.

Y'all have sold me. Viper is in the cart. :)

I dont think you will regret it .. I purchased mine back on July :)

... sometimes I feel so lucky, because out of the limited set of airplanes that DCS offers, there are now (counting the Viper) 4 aircrafts used on my country's Air Force (the C-101, the F-5E, the UH-1H and the F-16C), with the Mirage 2000 providing a close cousin to our upgraded Mirage 50. And there would be one more when the P-47D gets released :D

If you buy through the ED store you will want to install the stand alone DCS World.

The price is higher in the Steam store as the Pre-order window has expired there as the anticipated release date was since expired.

I would not wait to long if you intend to pre-order, I wouldn't want you to miss out.

I'm going to the beach on Thursday but don't have a strict schedule since I'm in convalescence from knee surgery. This might be a short trip... I anticipate being bored and anxious to get back and fly!

I used to have a TUSBA R2 but lost it somewhere along the way... I ordered a new one this morning and dug out my Cougar throttle (with CubPilot's hall sensor mod) to verify it's function. The Cougar software is a major PITA in Windows 10, but I got all axes running. I'm covered in case the Viper arrives before the new TUSBA.

Maybe this early access will be different but judging from past experience, it doesn't look like it will land this week.

Last news, I've just seen that the 20% discount is back on the Steam store too ... but only for 43 more hours, lets hope that all the late-comers will be able to purchase now :)
