So APC is 'autothrottle' and automatic pitch control hold then?

I could be wrong, but it seems that APC was yesterday's Auto throttle of today! I have an old F-4J NATOPS (I'm a part time geek) and I used to fly a very nice F-4B/N and S in another sim. I used APC a couple of times! The APC to me was just like auto throttle! I use it in the HB F-14 occasionally!

There's something about those old jets!

DO it or Don't, but don't cry about it. Real men don't cry!

SU-33 Special Engine Power mode seems like autothrottle also.

I wonder in real life aircraft, does the autothrottle actually move the throttle mechanically, for pilot to see and feel, or is it just controlling fuel flow via governor behind the scenes.

We coined it the 'Maneater' in the Navy.

I am sure there is a story behind that knickname....

Looking forward to this as an adjunct to my A4 flights....

If one wasn't careful and got too close to the intake you'd get swept off your feet into the intake. Being directly at the nose personnel not experienced enough would forget (brain fart moment).

Online I’ve seen the term “gator” attached to the A-7…

I’m not sure if it was in common usage at the time. Great nickname though. I’d almost like to see that added to its DCS listing when the time comes 😉

Was A-7E SO advanced? I've seen developer diary, its avionics is extremally impressive considering it's purely Cold War bird - US A-7 were decomissioned in late 1991, right after the collapse of the USSR and after Desert Storm ended.

Combined Terrain Following & Terrain Avoidance radar mode, FLIR LANA pod image displayed directly on the HUD, analog color moving map film coupled with INS, fully functional HUD, AN/ARL-67 RWR, Shrike and HARM integration etc. It was packed with technology.

Do someone know how A-7E compared with A-6E in night low level flying, radar bombing etc?

They kept seeing updates up to 80s I think. Also film projected moving maps, terrain avoidance radar, INS NAV/ATK systems were actually semi-common in strike aircraft in 80s, even in some 70s aircraft. F-111, A-6, Tornado, Jaguar come to mind. Su-24 too to some degree I think. A-7 was more or less the first bird with what we consider a proper HUD nowadays, and it already had that HUD Vietnam era as far as I recall.

AFAIK A-6E was still the somewhat better bird for night attacks, and especially A-6E TRAM from late-ish 70s got under the nose what is essentially a FLIR capable targeting pod with self lasing capability. A-7E's FLIR pod is, as far as I know, mostly for navigation and doesn't do much in attack department. I may be wrong though. Also I believe that the radar set on A-6 is more sophisticated and powerful, and it had some radar only bombing modes even in A-6A days, back when A-7 was day time only attacker for the most part.

I'm really looking forward old-school, semi-janky advanced capabilities to come in both A-6 and A-7.

Just a small update - the cockpit 3D model is pretty much complete, and we will begin animating this week!

thanks for the update, I’m looking forward to flying it, as I’m a bit tired of the more modern computerized aircrafts, a cold war warrior will be a really nice change of pace 👍
