One thing that really makes the P-51 stand out in DCS, and not in a good way, is the exterior 3d model and the corresponding fairly mediocre, by current standards, available skins for the P-51.

It would be nice if in the not too distant future the P-51 receive and exterior 3d model rework to bring it up to the standards of the P-47, Spitfire and FW-190 Anton. The cockpit rework was tremendous and looks lovely, but it's sadly a bit let down by the exterior of the plane, which while isn't always super relevant considering you spend the majority of your time in your cockpit...you still see it when looking out

I would attach Bf109 k4 and Fw190 D9 as well for this request.

As said in the first post, you don't even have to do that to see the age. Just open your eyes and look somewhere on the plane.

Yes it is very odd that a software company allows you to download a product with 2 free planes to try, which is great. What is odd is that the one they chose for the full fidelity model the TF-51. One would think you would want it to look more like a new Ferrari than an old Yugo.

The P-51 is long overdue for some attention.

I know that every one would want F-18 as free full fidelity.

the spitfire, anton and thunderbolt look absolutely phenomenal. the new PBR 3d models are the best in the buisness.

now that the sounds have been updated (except dora) it would be great to see the 51, 109 and 190D 3d models brought up to the level of the other three.

I understand this is a lot of work but it would be worth it:)

The 109 and 51 falls indeed short in terms of 3D model quality, they need an update. They aren't up to DCS standards anymore.

They are good, it's just the others are really good. I love the p-51 and I fly it a lot in vr. Never thought it less quality. First time I loaded up the p-47. Cockpit is amazing. I couldn't quite believe it. P-51 just isn't the same anymore....

Both the Spit and P51 could do with a bit of a cockpit revamp.

Cockpits were revamped not so long ago.

Was the Spit cockpit revamped? I only noticed a change in the Stang.

No, the Spit cockpit was never really updated and the old textures don't look good in current DCS after all those PBR engine updates.

Other, older WWII aircraft received updated cockpit textures at some point. They look fine to me, although the gauges are mostly 2D and lack the depth that more recent modules have.
