No F-4 and Cobra only posted patch notes. Doesn't look like they're answering questions about the F-4 so we'll see.

It's gonna be rough if they drop it right before winter break and things require fixing. They deserve a break.

True, good point.

That being said... looks like there will be a path next week as well........

Our apologies that Reforger II. is not included today yet, some minor issues are currently holding back release which we hope to iron out over the weekend, and bring it to you next week, in time before the Holidays."

HB and also we should light a joint, take a deep puff, relax and enjoy xmass/new year. After that we should look forward to a well prepared release, with the ability to release a quick-fixes patch within days later - something that is always required to this or that degree with such complex modules.

To clarify, I am not sure if there will be a hotfix patch, the campaign, if released next week, will be released as separate download first, not necessarily in a patch, or unlikely.

Don’t think it’s already delayed. Why would HB, if they know that it’s gonna be not 2022, not tell us?

Because when they do, they will want something to sweeten the pill - a trailer, screen shots, some other reveal, and it is not ready yet. My bet is that we will get something of the sort by next weekend.

Christmas screenshots to make up for a delay. It'd be neat to get a sort of cinematic with it though.

They MIGHT not know themselves. Sometimes in business and operations, there are many different factors, all interconnected, that will affect the outcome timing. Predicting exact timings in such situations is a fools game, because it's unpredictable.  Giving an answer in such situations doesn't actually make things better, but also creates the possibility of people being MORE upset if delays occur after an announcement. So there's no upside to giving a solid answer, because the answer may be wrong. Also, in such situations, it takes a lot of thinking calculating and guesswork to even come up with  an answer,  which is efforts better used to actually speed things up. I go through this every week in my workplace.

It's exactly 14 days until the end of 2022. If HeatBlur knows it's not going to release before 12:00:01 AM on 01/01/2023 then why not tell us?

Your answer did nothing to answer this question. Personally, I'll hold onto hope until 12:00:01 AM on 01/01/2023 or until HeatBlur/ED tell us it's not coming this year.

Do you really think ED is willing to allow 2 major updates in one month?  Especially when they just released BS3?  It would be nice if HB would tell us that the Phantom has been delayed but they also said they'd release more info in the weeks before the release.  That hasn't happened.  Why don't they tell us?  Seeing as none of us has paid them money for the F-4 yet, they are under no obligation whatsoever to tell us anything.  We're all excited but we need to be realistic here...

Yes. Why? $$$

Does ED get a commission on 3rd party sales?  I have never ever seen 2 major releases or patches happen in one month for DCS.  If it happens, I'll be happy to be wrong, but I have yet to see any evidence besides wishful thinking.

I am pretty sure that they do get some commission from third parties. Also I don't really count the BS3 as an actual release and more of a paid update. Furthermore I am not expecting the phantom to cut into the BS3 sales numbers too much as they are so different. Still I am with you in that it most likely won't be released this year but just because it isn't ready yet.

Well, the reason for this is probably that not so many modules are published each year. I don't believe that anything is held back. I think with larger companies, like HB, this is not so easy because of economic reasons.

Exactly. How old is Eagle Dynamics and how many modules do we have now? It probably isn't that it can't happen but simply that it hasn't happened yet.

I have to concede that every day the prospects of a 2022 release become more bleak.  😉

I wonder when we will hear something official. I'm honestly surprised there hasn't been a statement yet. Possibly they are waiting for the 2023 and beyond video.

Well we got the gunsight in the 2022 and beyond video.  It would be nice to see at least some exterior shots of the Phantom like they've been doing with the A-6 to at least tide us over until release.

@Heinlein I agree there is the possibility that the software developers are amused by our comments and guesses.  Yet, some kind of an intermittent update on how things are going with the F-4 would be appreciated.  I know we will enjoy the plane one day, but they could be more proactive in giving us timely updates.
