We can only really show the difference between 3090 to 4090. If it is worth it, will be totally depending on a lot of personal stuff, other hardware and whicjh which VR-headset or screen used.

I had a 2080ti —> 3090: it was worth it.

Got a 4090 now, yes it was worth it as well.

I did average about 65fps with 3090 on a specific own mission with 3090.

4090 pushed it to 75-80 or so.

changed from 9900KS to 13900KF pushed it to very close to 90fps in average.

As Varjo Aero do not have reprojection, and I am sensitive to stutter (and all not ”flowing” gaming, all steps above was worth it.

I feel the need, the need for speed! Which is opposite of rational.  Still, there was a limit.

Upgraded to 4080 from 6900XT.  I paid 1600 USD for the 6900XT in the worst part of the GPU shortage 1.5 years ago.  Sold it for 400 USD and bought a 4080 at 1450USD.  The 4090 would've been nice but I was not ready to spend an extra 1000 USD, my need for speed was not that high.

The 4080 provided me with a 30% increase in FPS over the 6900XT.  I also considered getting a 3090ti but it was about the same price as a 4080, and would've provided about 15% increase in FPS.

I am happy with the 4080, final cost was a little more than 1000 USD.

Not arguing that they are resonably priced but, I bought the 3080 new in 2020 for 1200USD and got the 4090 for 2200 USD and sold my 3080 for 700USD now = 1500USD for this upgrade (Norwegian prices converted to USD). 4090 retails for 2200-2700 USD here in Norway.

So I over doubled my performance for 300USD more than my initial 3080 purchase. Granted the 3080 prices were also horrible.

You could argue that no hobby expense is rational. I'm happy with the purchase as this is my main hobby other than my dog 🙂

I get it, mate. If you can afford it, by all means. What I meant was it's crazy nowadays, these ridiculus prices for a small performanceboost. Therefor rationally speaking it's not worth it. Emotionally, well. You said it. 🙂

To each his own. But I still keep convinced that software optimization is half (50%), hardware maybe 25% and the operating system also 25%. Approx.

That makes these prices even worse.

Well, no. The jump in performance is not worth such a high price.
Also, software optimization is more important than the hardware used.

But if people want to throw away money, who am I to disagree? It’s not rational behavior, so one should do as they please.

To be fair I didn't get the 4090 for DCS, rather "the other flight sim" where it literally more than doubled performance using DLSS 3.0. And went from like 45fps to 90 and got to increase settings.

For DCS the 4090 vs a 3090 did significantly reduce my GPU frame time. But the normal bottleneck in DCS is the CPU frame time, so like offline in an empty mission I get rock solid 90fps 5-6ms CPU and ~7ms GPU. But the moment I'm online the CPU frametimes jump into the 14-20ms range and the overall FPS drops to the 45-50 range.

My main hope is with the multicore improvement IF they can move that 5-6ms of graphics to its own thread, it will rougly halve the CPU times I'm seeing online, which means good frame rates even there.

If this keeps going on it may be  Ti released before I can get a 4090.

Had a couple of NewEgg notifications today and by time I clicked on the link they were gone.  Surely at some point this crap will settle down. Crappy scalpers.

Wait until you play games with Frame Generation - you can add another 20% boost on top. And despite early concerns, my experience with it has been amazing - couldn't notice a single flaw with the way games are displayed, and I also barely notice the added latency.

Yes but when will this be implemented in DCS. if ever?  DLSS 3 is a great technology but needs to be implemented by software developers...

Quite likely as it throws the AI tensor cores at it, if you like it's a dedicated hardware reprojection solution 🙂

Still doesn't work for VR though....

I think it is still possible, but will depend on whether or not AMD is able to sort out their Navi 31 issues in a timely manner.

Pretty much any die they could turn into a 4090 TI they could also turn into an RTX 6000 and sell for $6k+ to data centers and commercial users. And they will be gone at that price.

I don't think they could move a 4090 TI for more than $3k, which means they'll effectively give up money on every TI they sell. The only reason I can see them doing that, especially in this retail climate, would be if they felt they needed to preserve the #1 spot.

Thank you! Here in the UK They seem to be in stock regularly with Overclockers. The state of our economy may have something to do with it. Sorry it’s been a pain for you to get one, though “Good things come to those that wait” apparently 🙂

Im hoping I haven’t broken something trying to put the giant lump in my new case. The adapter needs to bend quite a lot in order to close the side of the case which is worrying. Talking of which I can only find two PCI-E leads coming from the psu and the adapter takes 3, am I screwed?

Edit, I found another one, phew! sorry I don’t know how to delete the photo.

You need all three. In my case, I needed 4 (4090 Suprim X)

The adapter can be bent quite a bit, but doing so may make it disconnect slightly from the card which has caused the overheating issue. Testing done by Gamer Nexus indicated that as long as you ensure that the adapter is fully seated into the card before and after you have cable managed, it should be fine.

Very interesting video if you are into that sort of thing but he shows poor connections at 26:39

I was quite fortunate because my case had a fair amount of room so I didn't have to bend the adapter much at all, but not everyone has the luxury. I've also heard some PSU manufacturers are making whole cables that are PCIE direct to the card so you skip the adapter don't have to worry as much.

Arriving tomorrow, feel like a kid on Christmas. Going from a 1080ti to a 4090 should be glorious. Now just waiting on 7800X3D benchmarks to decide how the rest of the system is getting upgraded for the next 4-5 year cycle.

Almost time to dust off the G2.
