Hi, i am struggling with my framerates in OpenXR (3080TI and CPU clock 4.8)  and HP G2. Where can I adjust my render/screen resolution? is it via OpenXR toolkit only? Thx much!!

You should adjust it in the OpenXR toolkit because the algorithms it uses are less taxing for your system -> better performance.

DCS now supports OpenXR natively

Depending on which headset you have select the openXR runtime and DCS will work without any third party apps.

Edit:

  • OpenXR is removed from autosearch. DCS has a chain of VR vendors in priority oculus, OpenVR, Varjo, etc. OpenXR was in that chain in top priority, now it is removed from this chain and only available when you explicitly specify it in command line of DCS.

If you need to force openXR in DCS command parameter is --force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR

Please ensure you are doing the command parameter on the DCS.exe or a shortcut from the DCS.exe (NOT the DCS_updater.exe)

thank you

So the only way to use OpenXR is to change your shortcut? with PIMAX headset 8k X it was working perfect but now in order to use OpenXR I can no longer launch from PiTools which means my headset isn't using any of the color, rendering, backlight etc. settings, is this correct? will it be possible in the future to have OpenXR as a setting within the VR tab in DCS so we can launch it as we like?

You will not be able to lunch from Pitool but this does not prevent settings in pitool to apply.  You can still set whatever setting you want in the "Common Settings" and they will apply.  The "DCS.exe" shortcut with the command line arguments is required to run in OpenXR and this is well explain at the start of this topic.

You still have to option to use opencomposite as before but by using the native OpenXR support within DCS, you will gain even more performance.  I have gained 1ms in GPU frametime and 1.3ms in CPU frametime using native over opencomposite, this is quite significant.

Make sure you use the latest versions of PimaxXR (0.3.0) and OpenXRToolkit (1.2.4) for this to work, and also very important, latest pitool version (1.0.1.284).

To use native DCS OpenXR you need to amend the shortcut.

You can still use the opencomposite method of capturing OpenVR output ( I presume this worked previously with the Pimax)

I understand ED plan to integrate OpenXR support within the UI, this is a first pass.

Awesome thank you 🙂 - I set my SS or render quality, colors, back lighting FOV, among a bunch of other things within PiTools so fornow I will go back to SteamVR

Hi, Everyone, just saw this on internet today. [Pico announces compliance with OpenXR Standard. The cross-platform standard allows games and apps to be adapted to support Pico headsets much more easily.  Does this mean we can use DCS without shortcut command?

Pico only supports OpenXR via SteamVR OpenXR. They do not support a native OpenXR runtime, you will still need to use SteamVR.

Their announcement is about them reaching compliance for Android apps running in standalone mode. It means nothing at all for PC applications.

You can either use SteamVR via OpenVR or OpenXR, see my post (2nd post in the thread) on what these 2 modes mean.

I wasn't banned, but this account is mostly inactive and not monitored.

Can someone explain what this means please? Not sure what openxr is or why it needs supporting?

The short of it is it's the underlying code that handles VR. Previously DCS used to run steamVR. Then there was a community made app (open composite) that forced DCS to use OpenXR, and now DCS supports OpenXR natively.

The reason this is important is because SteamVR is a massive bottleneck. Open composite (the community app) side stepped this issue, but relied on community support. Native OpenXR support means that we've removed a layer of abstraction in the graphics pipeline and the DCS devs are able to support VR directly without needing the community to fix things after the fact. In short, better performance out of the box.

DCS originally uses OpenVR (and Oculus runtime) and the default output is still OpenVR.  SteamVR supports both OpenVR and OpenXR API.

Weird issue lately...

Everything is normal until DCS loads into the menu hangar. Then my view inside the G2 look skewed is 3 directions, like the view isn't centered. I can actually see the black edges of the panels. This only happens with DCS, not the WMR load screen, WMR OpenXR demo, or Steam.

I have tried two repair installs.

The effect is gone with OpenXR Toolkit disabled.

Have you tried with safe mode enabled in OXRTK?  This will force %100 default settings.   Just to ensure that any  potentially bad or corrupted settings aren't applied

I had a few days ago just to see it it was still working but, haven't had it running during the last few sessions.

Tired it, same effect. Disabling the toolkit fixed it, then I was able to switch the toolkit back on without issue.

Definitely Necksafer... when enable, clearly shrinking FOV.

I have a HP G2 and I had a small left tilt issue in DCS making me freak with my ocd issues lol. It went away after setting the Field of View slider to 85%.

Thank you for making that comment!  I thought I was going mad.  I'll play with FOV.

I've got an ever so slight tilt right now that doesn't exist when I use SVR.  I had an enormous amount of tilt on both lenses in what felt like opposite directions until I cleared environment data, and there's a menu option in OXRTK that has my right eye with a 40 degree rightward clocking rather than overlaying with the left eye properly.  It's bizarre.  I think it might be part of why the WMD alignment tool doesn't seem to play nicely with OXR.

Where can I find the Field of View slider?

I had a look but failed to find this option!.

Hey, I'm a little confused.  I've been running DCS on OpenXR with my Quest 2 in Virtual Desktop with a 5ghz router for quite awhile (over a year, I believe).  Lately, the performance has been OUTSTANDING, even with my non-gaming gpu (Quadro P4000).  I have been playing around with Sidequest settings, various bitrates, refresh rates, etc, which all have an effect on performance to one degree or another.  I'm talking SMOOOOOTH and satisfying for the most part, with an occasional stutter-fest when I try to really push the settings.  Granted, the resolution I tend to run forces me to lean in to the panels to read the fine instrument print sometimes, but Dang, That Dog Will Hunt!

One thing I've never had to do with DCS since then is either run Oculus or Steam VR software. When I've tried those runtimes, my entire PC would have a stroke.  So OpenXR and VD are my cures.  Works wonderfully.

But now that I read through the first part of this thread, I found out what I'm doing isn't supposed to work.  I'm praying for a lot of things to happen in this world, and add a prayer that, as soon as I finish this post and start up DCS like I've been doing, I don't find out it no longer does work!

One thing I can't get going, however, is to bring up the overlay menu in DCS.  So all my tweaking for NIS, FFV, scaling, etc. has been via vrperfkit config file text editing.

Yep... I'm well versed in using OXR/OXR toolkit etc. This is something new.

Pretty sure it's related to the NeckSafer app.

Could be.  I find it interferes with the head stabilization stuff, there's probably other things it isn't playing nicely with.
