jib Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 My second hand Logithech WingMan Force 3D stick has been getting worse for ages, now the z (twist axis) is unusable. For black shark (doesn’t calibrate well) I can’t afford a Saitek x52 at the moment on the account of being a poor student. These are the sticks I’m considering I just can't decide which one to buy (if any)! Logitech Extreme 3D Pro http://www.amazon.co.uk/Extreme-3D-Pro-PC-Joystick/dp/B0000XK5JS/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_i I Like the Look of this stick but the throttle looks small and plasticy Saitek Cyborg X http://www.amazon.co.uk/Saitek-Cyborg-X-Stick-PC/dp/B001EYU1VO Looks like terminator! is more adjustable Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrustmaster-T-Flight-Hotas-PS3-compatible/dp/B001DMUCAC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1233080776&sr=8-1 It is quite big. but looks rugged probably my preferred choice at the moment. If force feedback that necessary? Logitech force 3D Pro http://www.ebuyer.com/product/94468 This isn’t much more expensive than the none force feedback model but is it better than the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X I can’t decide!!! aledmb Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 if you can afford one, i suggest you go with the cougar... http://www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-Cougar-Flight-Control-System/dp/B000062SSB

Maverick-GER- Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 well he states above that he cant afford a saitek x52 so how should he be able to afford a cougar.... I mean sure a cougar is the best solution in the long term ( i got mine for over 6 years and had no problems with it so far...) With the above choice I can't really help you since i didnt own any of the joysticks.. From the looks I would probably go for the thrustmaster .... Anyhow i could also just recommend you maybe to get a used cougar, x52 or even x45 Whereas the Cougar would be the best of the list =) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] F-14 Tomcat Rest in Peace (and hopefully get reborn in DCS!) deadsmell Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 logitech and saitek are garbage. I suggest you check out CH products. Dont let the smell get to ya...............
Maverick-GER- Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 yeah those plastic cougar fakes from ch aren't that bad either i heard [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] F-14 Tomcat Rest in Peace (and hopefully get reborn in DCS!) (Dream came true about 10 years later, now the Apache please )
192nd_Erdem Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I have just bought a Saitek Cyborg X and I'm loving it. It's as precise as my FFB2(also much better than X-52). Build quality is superb, and big throttle with two levers is a big bonus. Button placement is clever too. TBH best joystick I owned since FFB2. Logitech is to be avoided at all costs. I haven't heard much from "T-Flight" though.
Zembla Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 That T-Flight looks like a rebadged Top Gun Afterburner. I used to have that stick. Was pretty content with it, the sides can be seperated to make placement easier/more natural. Only disadvantage was it didn't have that great many buttons. And the only axes it supports are X,Y,Z(throttle) and either rudder by twisting the stick, or by a sort of button on the back (used the latter, it was pretty precise). Don't know anything about the other ones though. But that T-Flight should be fine. -Z [sigpic][/sigpic] I aaaaaam ... a banana!
RichardG Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 CH are reliable. Cougars need maintanance...they shouldnt for what they cost. You'll hear lots of people complain about cougar problems. Hardly a word about CH stuff.
Sinner6 Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 CH is very high quality and long lasting. Cougar...not so much.
531-Ghost Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 The beauty with CH, if you can only afford a stick, get a FighterStick or CombatStick. Then, as you can afford to add to your CH Controllers, you can add a ProThrottle, then ProPedals, MFP... Use Control Manager to map them as a single device for older games or as seperate devices for newer ones. In any event, get what suits you. Me personally, I got tired of throwing good money after bad and went with the full CH Products line up. FS/PT/TQ/PP/MFP/MFP and Eclipse Yoke for all my simming needs. :joystick:
jib Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 I seem to have fixed my Wingman Force 3D quite alot (by doing 5 minutes solid calibration, weird) and I was just thinking even before 531-Ghost posted that I might as well save up a few mounths for a CH CombatStick (becasue I can't be doing with more unreliable hardware) then a few more mouths for a CH Pro Throttle :) In the mean time I really want to get a Track IR!! I have always wanted one! Im so happy because I just managed to get my first kill with a Vikhr missle now i have fixed my stick!! :) Mods I use: KA-50 JTAC - Better Fire and Smoke - Unchain Rudder from trim KA50 - Sim FFB for G940 - Beczl Rocket Pods Updated! deadsmell Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 oh sorry, I didn't catch the part where he cant afford anything. my bad. In that situation i guess the cheapest one is the best choice. right? FYI: I cant afford anything either. Dont let the smell get to ya...............
Spartan1-1 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Coming from a life long thrustmaster guy who just bought the X52, the X52 aint that bad. Albeit the only reason I got it is b/c it was available in the store and I needed a new stick bad. I will be "upgrading" though to either the 52 pro or back to thrustmaster with the cougar. I also have Saitek pedals, pro flight yoke, and pro flight throttle quad. All work quite well. No issues 1+ years. spybaz Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 (edited) No probs s/Saitek x52 here. I love it. Had it for a while. All BS keys assigned to x52. No keyboard needed for me! Edited January 28, 2009 by spybaz

Things with analogue pots tend to get funny like that. I remember haing to use WD-40 on the pots of my TM F-22....(and every other TM stick I ever owned for that matter) If they sat idle for a year or so. fox_111 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I own a cougar hotas and a CH pro pilot aircraft yoke and pedal. Both product are of high quality. The cougar is nice for it being made of metal, but the componments need some tweeking to be top notch. Like fixing the stick center wobble, some buttons and knobs are miss aligned... But it still worth it's price, especially with it's programming sofware that is limitless.
skoiboy Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 How do you all notice how insensitive a stick might be without a solid comparison. For example I am in love with my old Logitech Wingman Force (the 1st generation.. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-963203-0403-WingMan-Force/dp/B00001W01O ) but maybe it's because I don't know better. As a side note, the FF is sooo helpful in trimming I'm not sure I could live without it. Having said that for my general aviation FSX needs I use CH all the way and would go with them in a second if I thought living without FF in BS were possible.
Tiger27 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 CH any time over a stock Cougar, I bought my fighter stick secondhand about 5 years ago and it never misses a beat, nor does it require calibration, the Cougars were a great idea, unfortunately Thrustmaster dropped the ball and used cheap pots and manufacturing processes. WynnTTr Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Why did you need to get a new stick when you already had the Cougar? ;) There were Thrustmaster flight systems before the Cougar. Cougar = weak parts ruined what could have been the best stick on the market. If you want to spend extra $$$ to mod it, you'll have the best stick money can buy. CH = works right out of the box with high quality components. No need to mod anything.
Peyoteros Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 It all depends on what you know about your flight stick and how you use it. Just red some posts which stated that Logitech and Saitek are garbage... Well I disagree... Personally I use X52Pro, same stick for two and a half years and have no a single problem... But then, it's because I had two X52 before my X52Pro and I've learned weak points of the Saitek and with keeping those in mind X52Pro serves just fine. Wouldn't want anything else. 1 "Eagle Dynamics" - simulating human madness since 1991 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ۞ ۞
JKing Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I just bought the X52Pro, spent a few hours at least setting up my config/profile. everything so far seems fairly cruisy a good stick from what I have used thus far.
Chizzy101 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I'd stay away from the logitech stick Jib. I purchased one a couple of years ago and the potentiometers started playing up within a month. I took it back to be replaced...same thing happened. Replaced it again and the next one did the same thing...all failed within 4-6 weeks. I pulled the last one apart to see if I could replace them myself and the components looked very cheap and nasty. I currently use a CH stick and Saitek pedals. I've had both for quite a while with no problems at all. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever" - Napoleon Bonaparte
