giullep Posted February 27, 2023 Author Posted February 27, 2023 it's strange that on the occasion of the update scheduled 1 month before (never happened a date was set 1 month before) there weren't any videos of Wags or anything else..it should be a full-bodied update and yet there are no previews or news..and very strange; Is it the silence before the storm? what do you think, maybe I'm optimistic and I'm wrong? 1

av8orDave Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Well, the 1st of March beta update is not a 1st of March beta update. Didn't predict that one! Maybe hope for Friday? 1
Dragon1-1 Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Figured, that just confirms that there's something big coming in. I doubt it'll be on Friday, 1st of March seemed rather optimistic to me. 2

Dragon1-1 Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 It's right there in the thread. They need more time, if you really thought they'll make a date announced a month in advance, well, then you're one heck of an optimist. 1
Hoirtel Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Surely a big engine update would warrant a major version number change... They have said its a lot of work so are we looking at DCS 3.0?? Maybe that will come later when its in final and with vulkan. Even so would a big engine update be better with a clean download? 1

No. There are other cases that have already gone to them a month ago since the 3rd party and are not resolved, they could have released this as well without the other changes. Multithreading is nothing new. What month in advance are you talking about? They've been doing it and advertising for 2 years+. So what month? We can talk about many months or years even. Dragon1-1 Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Yeah, it's obvious you have no idea how much work is it to convert a single threaded engine to multithreaded one. Two years is a good time. You can wait a week or two more. The point was that predictions made a month in advance rarely pan out exactly as expected. They announced this specific update a month in advance. If they need a little more time than expected, so be it. Humans are not particularly good at estimating time, you can either overestimate or underestimate, and if you try to be honest, you'll inevitably do the latter, because software development almost never goes exactly as planned. The only time you overestimate is if you use "Scotty time" and pad your estimates excessively. 3

My question was a bit sarcastic because personally I don't believe we'll see it in the first half of this year, maybe in the fall. Well, unless ED would like to make a surprise. However, why they postponed this patch and without giving a date to when, I don't know. Maybe it means that there was actually supposed to be something bigger than just patching bugs. I havent idea. 2 Webmaster of http://www.yoyosims.pl Win 10 64, i9-13900 KF, RTX 5090 32Gb OC, RAM 64Gb Corsair Vengeance LED OC@3600MHz,, 3xSSD+3xSSD M.2 NVMe, Predator XB271HU res.2560x1440 27'' G-sync, Sound Blaster Z + 5.1, TiR5, [MSFS, P3Dv5, DCS, RoF, Condor2, IL-2 CoD/BoX] VR fly only: Meta Quest Pro
