The situation is certainly interesting because Meta has confirmed important news for Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 customers (about new drivers?) - "both devices will receive a 26% increase in CPU performance thanks to the update, and in the case of GPU it will be +19% for Quest 2 and +11% for Quest 2" whatever that means.

Interesting I would view the Apple device to be quite a different market than the Quest device.

Well, the keyword is "new". Also, nobody knows what Apple will showcase next week, but it is expected to be at least double the price of a Q3.

From what we get from 3rd UTubers, it was for the games which support the feature of higher performance, it did not mention anything regarding the Rift mode, afaik. Wish to know that too.

We will know, when this update will be ready. Hard to speculate now. Maybe they was talkng about Air Link (6v) or driver update, software solutions or mobile games performance or about Cable link and better connection? We have to wait, closer end of September perhaps we will know more.

Unlikely, it will matter for standalone games.

Maybe it will be some benefit in the decoding process on the headset. But nothing that will help DCS (or any PC game) performance

Assuming no other changes to my setup, is one likely to see a worthwhile improvement in image quality (particularly cockpit readability) going from a Quest 2 to a 3? I know the real answer is wait for somebody else to try it but I'm itching to preorder.

It has, on paper, more resolution and better lenses. But nobody knows yet.

You will get G2 clarity across almost all field of view, so for sure you will notice that over Quest 2. And this won't require more PC performance.

Still, I'm not pre-ordering because no one has tested PCVR yet. The most important things for me are 72 Hz availability, how is video streaming of XR2 gen2 Vs gen1 in link and VD, and how is the controller tracking in Beat Saber. On this it will depend if I just buy Pico 4 for 72Hz and lenses and keep Quest 2 as a Beat Saber machine, or I sell Quest 2 and buy Quest 3 for everything. Money wise it would be more or less the same. In a year we will likely see new Quest Pro and Pico 5, so with this approach a year of VR with good lenses would cost me around $300 and then I can think of a high resolution upgrade, if there will be place to utilize that resolution.

No one complained about FOV in their first impressions, so at least this is good to know, was a major concern for me.

I have pre-ordered so will happily post my beta testing .

I currently use a Q2 so it will be a direct comparison as a DCS headset. I do like oculus/meta's ASW, so that is a big selling point for me. I decided to go Q3 over QPro because of the increased res and new version XR2 chip. Downsides are no local dimming or DFR. I don't use fixed FR currently with ASW so that helped me with the trade-off.

I run a strong system and have been quite happy with my Q2, I have had both HP headsets in the past and didn't get on with them but that was back in the early days. My hopes for the Q3 are really about less aliasing as this is my main issue. I feel I can read everything in cockpits that is realistically readable, extra sharpness is always nice though. The pancake lenses more or less guaranteed to be great, and I also hope for better colors, particularly black levels although I may not get this with this headset.

I still want to buy a DP super high res headset and will do one day. Don't want that massive pimax thing and the aero is now tempting but I don't own base stations, have tax to pay and I hear the reprojection isn't great. The Q3 will hopefully give me an upgrade until something new comes out and although I pre-ordered the Q3 as it feels a safe bet, any new high end headsets I will need to wait until they are well tested before buying. So a year or two from now at least.
