I've just looked at some of the prices and see that the normal rate is $80.00 for a module. Yes I normally wait for the sales.

But most modules really don't come down in price that much. I've been waiting for the F16 for like ages.

Also noticed I can't use my miles in certain modules. Why is this. ?

Where do you get promo codes from is there any .

As i loyal customer, lol, surely we get codes and miles to ease the pain.

80 bucks has been the normal price for a module for a long while now. Kola Map is the only one that's priced above "it's weightclass". But Jets out of EA, with no discount? 80 Dollar for years.

Oh,and about the miles: The Developer of a module decides if they want to participate in the ED miles program. If they say no, than you can't use miles for that module nor you will get miles from purchasing.

Some Modules/developers decide not to participate in the miles discount program, which is why you cannot use miles for these modules. It is up to the developers to decide if and when they will let you use miles on a module.

The Viper was available at a 30% discount during the spring sale.

How about subscribing to the newsletter. Then you will always be informed. 😉

How many people actually buy modules at full price?

Most of mine were either on one of the regular sales, or at pre-release discount.

I have nearly everyone module and the only ones I remember paying full price for were the Huey and Nevada.  The Huey was because it was my first module and I didn’t know about the regular sales.  NTTR was for release 2.0.

The F-16C saw -50% dicounts on two sales in the past, IIRC.

Usually the prices don't "come down" in DCS, but the discounts go up from 0% to 50% (varying over time, there was a spceial anniversary discount for some modules of more than 50%, but I guess you don't wanna wait another 15 years for that).

edit: forgot to answer your question: imho: no, DCS doesn't get expensive. my favorite burger menu saw a +60% raise in a few years. So...

Some recent modules even went on 60% discount during the 15 year anniversary sale last summer: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/newsletters/2449f6e8d3d38d794c5728980ddb0e8b/

The viper was on Sale 2 months ago, before that another 2 months. Last 6 months the module was on sale 3 times, from 30 to 50% off, I don't recall exactly. I got it last December on a 40% off.

A good indicator of when the next ED store sale will happen is to follow Steam db sales prediction, on top of that ED makes their own sales extra from Steam schedule (sometimes).

Miles usage needs to be opt in from 3rd party. If the 3rd party needs the proper revenue to keep their products up to date and within a good margin financially, it is more than fair they opt out of a miles system.

Hi KoN,

We believe they are fairly priced for the work we put into them, of course everyone's budget is different and you should only use disposable income for pleasure.

We have many sales during the year, and on stand alone we have EDmiles for participating modules which help towards future purchases, third parties can decide if they wish to participate or not.

We are working on a new discount program and we will share more news in the future.

thank you

The Kola, Afghanistan, and South Atlantic maps are all priced at $69.99. They are very big maps so I think this is fair.

IMHO more than one thing can be true at the same time:

Yes, I think that the modules are priced fairly. Anyone who thinks differently wouldn't purchase them after all.

AND 2024 can become expensive with all the great modules I need to purchase: Phanty, Hook, Afganistan, Irak, Kiowa, FC 24, ... (more I hope).

So, a good year, methinks, and I'm looking forward to spending the money. Expensive? Not compared what the same amount would bring me compared to, say, visits to a cinema with my godson (they also come in at some 80 a pop, and last 4 hours max...) 🙂

Don't get me started 🙂 A good night out with family, food and drink, bang £200 gone!

I hope you enjoy the new modules this year and thank you for supporting our work.

Dam, I missed that sale, 50% off for the F16 , this is more to my liking.

Yes, most of my buys have been sales or packages or gifts for special occasions.

I have most of the modules and maps, Afghan is next for me and the Vietnam map if it comes.

Holding off on the Phantom - F4 until that map arrives. Yes, it's along wait, I know.

I just felt that prices have gone up this year compared to last year .

When I was ready to start buying bits it was during a Black Friday sale. A few things were 50% off and I got more than carried away and snatched twice as many modules as I was after. I thought some modules a bit pricey until I got to know them a bit and appreciate the amount of work that’s gone into them. They’re pretty fairly priced I’d say.

The cost of living for most of us has gotten ridiculous and doesn’t look to be getting better soon. It isn’t just a DCS thing.

Comparing DCS modules to other games, $80 is underpriced. Sales also happen so often that I wonder if many people even pay that much.

Awaiting: DCS F-15C

It's gone crazy.  I'll keep an eye on sales for F-16. There was a time when we could give keys away. I sent the A10C key to a squadron friend, is that likely to come back.

DCS has got to be the best entertainment value of all time. Considering that typical games are $70-$90 and you might play them for just 20 hours or so.

Agreed.

After all, I still regularly fly for example the Huey and Harrier, both of which I’ve owned for 6+ years.  I can’t think of another 6 year old game that I regularly use.

The most expensive part of DCS isn't even the modules. I probably spent twice or triple as much on DCS-related Hardware. Mostly input devices but also hardware upgrades that are mostly driven by DCS.

I consider it a hobby - and it isn't nearly as expensive as other hobbies I had (motor sports.... argh 😆)...

Still, on average I paid perhaps 100 bucks a month on DCS - including hardware. Others spend the same amount on smokes easily.
