TGTM99 Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Hi MrWofu - many thanks. What is Strg please? I am using a European keyboard as well.
MrWofu Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Hi MrWofu - many thanks. What is Strg please? I am using a European keyboard as well. The left-most bottom key (Below the Shift- and Left of the Windows-Key); maybe it's called Ctrl on your Keyboard.
112th_Rossi Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 So to take out a AA, my only option is to scan the indicated direction over all reasonable ranges? Correct. The A10 isn't really a SEAD aircraft so any AA threat that has an engagement envelope of greater than 8nm is probably worth avoiding. Use the RWR to determine your situation with regard to how 'safe' you are rather than as means to work out how to enagage that threat. SEAD strikes are best reserved for flights that have a greater stand-off capability, unless you like dodging missiles. :)
TGTM99 Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Got it .... it is the Ctrl key on my keyboard. Thanks again!
Rusty_M Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 What's a European keyboard? I know that French, German, and UK layouts are all different. The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming
ALDEGA Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 "Strg" (Steuerung) is used on German and Austrian keyboards instead of "Ctrl"
shagrat Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 (edited) Hm I thought the radar only displays direction & threat-level; meaning contacts closer to the center are the most threatening, but giving no indication about range? How can I make out how far the target is away? basically it is the energy of the radar impulse that puts it more to the center, suggesting more energy means you are closer to its source. What I meant by "knowing the enemy's radar range" is that the RWR uses codes to indicate what, threat/SAM system emits the radar pulse e.g. "S6“ indicates a 2S6 Tunguska. If you know the radar profile of the threat, the range it detects enemies, you can guess the coarse distance. Outer circle more the maximum radar range (2S6=11miles), inner circle more the actual launch range of the missile (2S6=7miles). EDIT: of course it's not an exact science more like rough guessing in what direction to look and if it is 10-15 miles out or more like 5 miles... and you should evade NOW! :D Edited June 6, 2012 by shagrat Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
MrWofu Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 (edited) Thanks again for the info. Another question: When I task the ground-crew to rearm, I only see a part of the weapon-profile-description, the rest is cut off with "...", but I found no full description of the profiles anywhere. Also, is it possible to create own profiles? EDIT: Nevermind, found the thread. Edited June 8, 2012 by MrWofu

PeterP Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 This will be a antenna of short/high frequency of some kind - its not a "Handle" -:P I tend to look it up - but I'm sure that someone will post what this is before I can type in the search-phrase. :)

PeterP Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) Let me guess - And your thoughts are similar like this: Pilots = these are the persons you can give a machine in absolute perfect condition. But they will still find out how to make it absolute FUBAR in just one 4 hour sortie. Wartime or not. And this guarantees that you have work for the next 20years. And on top of it you have to thank them each time that They made it back home in one piece. :D Short : It's a sort of handle after all. Edited June 23, 2012 by PeterP

Snoopy Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 You obviously work with them idiots too then ..... never fails to amaze me that with their supposed intellect , they break so much shit ..... like a bunch of 3 year olds really !!! My favorite is when they come back from a sortie and say "Chief, I think I lost my pen." You then impound the jet, get the seat raised, spend 8 hours under the ejection seat pulling floor boards, looking for the damn pen, only to have the pilot come in the next day and say "oh, I found my pen in my other flight suit." Sounds far fetched but it's happened to me once and I've seen it happen to others at least twice. Maybe not a pen (or pencil) but pilots "thinking" they lost something in the cockpit. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website

BlueRidgeDx Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Is that better or worse than the "stupid pilot" keeping his mouth shut and letting the next guy take the jet with FOD in the cockpit? I wonder how many maintainers have said "oh shit" when they realize they're missing a fastener after closing up an access panel? I wonder if speaking up about it would classify him as an "idiot"? Don't take this too seriously, I like poking fun as much as the next guy "They've got us surrounded again - those poor bastards!" - Lt. Col. Creighton Abrams
