This is a completely off topic post, but could be fun. How did you come about your callsign?

I ended up with the callsign "boner". I've been working towards practicing orthopaedic surgery for some time which naturally led to the initial callsign "bones". Inevitidebly, this didn't last long and was changed to "boner". I only graduated medical school 6 months ago and am only 4 months into residency in orthopaedic surgery, but the callsign stuck a long time ago.

Anyone else have stories?

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Forum name "AlphaOneSix" was my actual call sign when I was an Observer/Controller at the U.S. Army Joint Readiness Training Center at Ft. Polk, Louisiana.

My current call sign at work is "Cupcake" because my wife is a purveyor of fine baked goods and my coworkers think it's funny.

Are we talking about the name we are using here on the forums, or elsewhere?

I had been thinking of the name you use when flying (or name of your pilot if you fly off line only), but I suppose either works.

A long time ago I went to "Aviation Challenge" (Space Camp for fighter-pilot wannabes) and I go the callsign "Clutch". Supposedly when I was younger, I rand through a fence with a lawn mower because I couldn't find the brakes....I don't remember that happening.

I got Jinro from the company that makes Chamisul soju....technically it's pronounced Jilro but that sounds stupid.

tree was taken.

For real. I went by the name of 'tree' during my infant days on the internet and flight simming. Then one day I decided to try Warbirds and 'tree' was taken, and I was like - ARGHHH! Total brain freeze! I sat there and was like, tree...three...free..gee...eEE... Fast forwarded two hours and I settled with leaf cuz fruit was too gay. I was quite proud of 'leaf' and it went where ever I went on the internet until one day...

When a total stranger started chatting with me on icq and after about ten minutes of getting to know one another that person suddenly said - "I thought you were a girl!?" I was like, no, I'm a guy. And she was like, but, your name...leaf! Total shrivel, so back to the drawing board...

Probably spent another two hours just to add 'er' too.

But leafer also sounded just as gay as fruit. Well not if it's Leading Edge AirFoil-er.

Ethereal/EtherealN is basically derived from a way old handle I used in certain IRC channels way way back. (Windows 3.11 was better than 95, btw. :P ) The "N" stands for "Nihilist" - the full handle was EtherealNihilist. It was chosen basically on aesthetics - a sort of intangible threat.

Since then it's been basically sustained by nostalgia, and some retrofit meanings - for example, in flight sims you cannot kill what you cannot see, so "ethereal" is nice in there. The Re-usage of the "N" is just pure nostalgia though, and to differentiate from the software suite by that name. :P It has lead to some mispronounciations of the handle though, even within the squadron, making it sort of "Etherin" instead of "Ethereal-Enn".

I was about to create an online squadron and was thinking about the name for that. Eventually, I chose to name the Squadron after my favourite film at the time - "Reservoir Dogs". At first, I was going to call myself Mr Brown as a salute to Quentin Tarantino, but in the end I chose to be "MadDogMcQ".

There's only one real way to sexually please a woman, though some deny it, none have ever denied me...in college I had a good rep for it, it was called "mowing the lawn", so they called me Mower for short.

When I fly, I am known as Fishman, or Gold Wing, Duck, etc because of my love for those outdoor activities of fishing, hunting, and riding my Wing. My id is kind of a mistake as I had used it on another forum. My ancestors come from Denmark and I did say I was one of the oldest around. '48 is either the year I graduated from college; was born; took my first ride in an airplane (check my signature); or had sex for the first time. I'll never tell

Asparagin comes from Asparagine (eng). It's is one of the 22 aminoacids found in nature. Something like the 12 apostols of biochemistry but of course with much cooler names.

I was very impressed with a display performed by the Brazilian Air Force aerobatic squad when they visited my country. They used EMB312 "Tucano"s (toucan in portuguese).

I thought that the callsign would suit me also because of my rather large nose hahahaha.

UY comes from my home country, Uruguay. I had to add it to the forum nickname because, even if I couldn't find a Tucano user, the name appeared not to be available.

By the way, if anyone knows how to modify the forum name please advise. I'd would like to get rid of the _uy

As for my name: My middle name is Avelar and I'm an aviator. Avelar+aviator=Avilator

No I did not watch Family Guy too much.

Mine comes from my army times, just over a year ago I served in Finnish helicopter battalion on the maintenance side. We had this griffin cockade you see as my avatar on our berets and battalion flag. Possibly the rarest cockade around here. Well around the same time I joined this forum and started flying Black Shark. It seemed to suite pretty well as the griffin has been linked with aviation and helicopters in particular.

If I would had stuck with my "callsign" that was chosen the real air force way, it would be "Blitz". It was due to my "fast" way of doing things in the army. :D
