That is a question for the dev team since they have not released any significant details about EDGE. I doubt any more information will be forthcoming until Nevada is released.

I check these forums often because I just know ED is going to release Nevada without so much as a peep until they do. Are only warning will be the news board. If we are lucky to catch it.

From Wags, 14 May 2011

Our team in Mink continues to work on the Nevada add-on map for DCS. Here are some progress shots showing new higher resolution terrain textures.

We hope to release by the end of 2011.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Is there any news? Can you (ED) announce us the percentage of completion of the project? (EDGE + Map)

Is it still a dedicated team that is creating the map?

Is it possible to have a high res video of the map?

So much questions!

Thank you

They stopped work on Nevada for like 5 months because the team that was working on it broke up. ED started from scratch it sounds like.

Originally before Warthog was released Nevada was being built by a few 3rd parties with help from ED. That effort foundered and ED took over and decided to restart from scratch and use the location as a showcase for the a new graphics engine.

To this end ED opened a new office in Minsk. They have been busy with Nevada among other things that are not discussed.

such a tease:fear:

"The art of simulation design is about understanding limited fidelity...

...compromises must be made. Designers have to consider cost vs. fidelity and processor time vs. fidelity. Additional trade-offs must be made between graphics, AI, flight models, number of units and more...

...never ask the pilot what he wants to learn because he too will end up building an airplane. Instead, ask the pilot what he needs to learn."

One thing their not busy with is answering their tickets with respect to FC2 ..... Ive been waiting almost a month now for an answer ..... and Im still waiting . They do say they try to answer within 48 hours ..... maybe its 48 days !!!

Ticket number?

You beat me, except I was going to say 'That's because it is not part of their job, were I to venture a guess.'

As I was reading this article, I noticed two things, new Image Generator, and auto-updater (would be great)!

I was wondering what the function of IG would be, and is it a part of new terrain engine?

If this is a new part, I hope It'll have its own running thread, and we eventually end up with true multitask platform! biggrin.gif

Anyway, now that Microsoft Flight project has been cancelled, and lots of 3rd party modules coming to DCS platform, it'd be good for ED to stop some other minor projects and release all of its resources for making smooth, sophisticated, contemporary (64 bit, multi CPU-GPU, DirectX 11) simulation engine. smile.gif

Which projects do you consider minor?

ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Since every module has to operate in DCS World, it is minor in contrast to the simulation engine itself!

I personally stopped buying other modules, even 3rd party ones, to see if new engine brings us smooth experience. smile.gif

As far as I can evaluate it, I don´t really think that the modules in general are "minor" in comparison to the new engine. The parallel development and releases of several projects are probably generaing much needed cashflow for ED. Many game comapnies do this in a similar fashion with their pre-purchases as it simply reduces risk. The whole franchise is expanding rapidly - what´s the problem here? :D

If it takes 1 year to create the F-15C "bling bling" pit alone (clickabe or unclickable), how long does an entire DCS-level module take with visuals and math? And how long in comparison would Nevada have been in development with a hypothetical 12/2012 release date?

According to post #885 Nevada is a "showcase for the a new graphics engine", so it kind of has to be good/better and the simulation aspect itself really can´t get any better. No need to worry I think.

The 3D cockpit model takes a year. The AFM takes a year - in theory, you could do both in parallel. Probably tying a functional cockpit into the simulation engine takes a little while as well.

Assuming ED did nothing other than hammer out new modules, with no regard for the rest of the game, you could probably see a new aircraft every year or the originally forecasted 9 months.

But ED is doing a bit more than just that.

Why would they? There are now very capable 3rd parties that speed up release intervals for DCS modules.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

1 YEAR for a 3D cockpit. Man I wish I had that kind of time to create assets at my job. No wonder things are taking as long as they are. I can't even imagine how long Nevada will take on that time frame.
