DCS World 2.0 and New Maps Discussion Thread

Something that just came to my mind.

Sorry if this has been answered before, I didn't search all the pages in this utterly long thread.

Poeple who preordered A-10C get nevada for free, so far so good.

It was said, nevada is the first map that will benefit from edge and that the old map will not work with edge as it is a totally different engine.

Now those who didn't preorder A-10C are (at first) stuck with the old map.

But does that mean they won't be able to benefit from or update to edge at all, given the current map is build with the old engine ?

Or is edge compatible with the old map but just the map doesn't take advantage of any of the new stuff edge brings ?

Please clarify!

Greetings

MadCat

Pretty Sure that EDGE, Being the Image Renderer will replace the Current Image Renderer.

There's no point in having both a DX9 and DX11 Renderer. Once EDGE is Done it should phase out the old engine. Running Support / Development for 2 Vastly Different GFX Engine codes will be problematic, no use supporting the old engine. (Unless there's a BWC Issue with people that dont have DX11 GFX Cards).

Caucaus map prolly wont look any different terrain wise on EDGE,

But with a DX11 Rendering engine, You'd have higher FPS due to Less CPU Overhead and DX11 Optimized Shader Effects.

If that's the planned strategy, you can almost assume there's been/going to be testing time of Caucaus running in the new Rendering Engine.

At this point I´m starting to wonder what the damage models in EDGE - Nevada will look like. So far I haven´t read or seen anything about that.

I don't think there is any relationship between EDGE and the aircraft models, damaged or not.

Maybe he means static objects??

Again, up to the 3D model, not the engine.

Sorry, I was being too unspecific. What I meant were the actual 3D models of damaged static objects on the Nevada map (synonymously used together with the term EDGE here). Of course this does not depend on the actual graphics engine. I just haven´t seen anything showcased until today is all. RRG just recently showed some WIP models to the public.

Well since they are much more detailed (Im basing this on the WIP static objects weve seen from Nevada) I would assume that the damaged models would also be of a much higher quality.

I'm with Blaze, its dependant on the 3D model, now EDGE may allow for more detailed damage, but I wouldnt expect anything too crazy... we wont see BF4 damage...

I figure by my birthday in March there will be lots of new toys.

Nevada hopefully!, F-15C & Su-27 AFMs, Oculus HD Dev kit & Oculus support in DCS, Huey will be out of BETA, and Mig21BiS, maybe T.1A. Things are getting exciting.
