I think a separate thread is no necesary if EDGE will use GPU (Graphic Procesor Units) of or your graphic cards.

Now that we are getting very close to integrating EDGE into DCS, I can share a few more details.

1- DirectX 11 / DirectX 11 Windows 8 based.

2- Can support up to four GPU (either SLI or CF).

3- Uses clip maps.

4- Two cloud layers can be created with options for none, cumulous, cumulous nimbus, and stratus.

5- Terrain shadow projection is supported.

6- World can be as large as the designer wishes them to be, it is more of a question of development time / map detail.

7- Option to project map on globe surface.

For Work/Gaming: 28" Philips 246E Monitor - Ryzen 7 1800X - 32 GB DDR4 - nVidia RTX1080 - SSD 860 EVO 1 TB / 860 QVO 1 TB / 860 QVO 2 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Warthog / TPR / MDF

Is EDGE rendering on separate thread ?

I mean third thread.

That has not been stated by ED.

The CPU still has to do a big chunk of passing data to the GPU. I know these days there have been efforts to put more of the load on the GPU, but it can't do everything by itself.

The Amount of CPU overhead from DX9 to DX11 is greatly reduced.

That being said, Im pretty sure DX11 is able to scale across multiple threads to avoid overloading a single CPU thread with draw calls, whether or not EDGE uses that I dont know .

Some notable improvements:

1.) 3D waves.

2.) Buildings reflected in water.

3.) More realistic and colour-saturated distance haze.

4.) Stronger cloud shadows.

Not sure if I'm seeing things, but it also looks like there is a visible horizon in the first shot.

I am a little worried that the ship wake effect might not sit well with the 3D waves (clipping issues), and that the ocean looks too reflective in general. But the lighting itself looks great, a huge step up from what we currently have.
