tintifaxl Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Fantastic screenies :) Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.
AlphaOneSix Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Now I know the differnce in height etc but still these things are both at the same speed ratings. Wouldnt be surprised if a P-51D fly by me when I am carrying all those bombs on my a-10 Well when you bring that 437mph down to sea level, it's only 301mph, assuming standard day. So no, they aren't nearly the same speed ratings.

It seems someone is having the time of their life :D You lucky bastard!!! Anyways, please make sure to tell them to add the cough cough sound for the engine, and the occasional tar expell black smoke we see when you first start the engine.. Otherwise disregard. OGREMAN Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Just plain OUTSTANDING! I hope the build and publication go well, I am looking forward to flying that one. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ironhand Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) Absolutely oh so cool! Hope all goes smoothly with this welcome addition. :) Edit: BTW, I really like the Hog-Mustang screen in Wags' initial post. Really cool seeing them together like that. OGREMAN Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 This is very disappointing. There are simulations such as IL2, where the P-51 is very well done and which deals with piston aircraft. What about the great years of jet aviation? Where is the F-4? Where is the MiG-21? What about the eighties and F15, MiG-29, Su-27? It would be nice to have a realistic simulator of those planes DCS is going the wrong way. I take your point and would not dissagree that there are many aircraft that could be added to the distingushed list in the DCS/ED/Flying Legends stable, how about the Harrier or .... well the list IS long. The point here is to take this as a POSITIVE thing every aircraft added to the flight line is going to be a GEM and the P51 addition will harm nothing so why not welcome this legendry warbird. 2 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
effte Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) Handbook sea level speed on max continuous (i e not top speed, but the max you'll realistically use to go anywhere) is 274 knots when clean. Edit: 315 statute mph, for those who don't want to recalculate. bigbear Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 I think it is wonderful that DCS has been able to allocate resources for WW2 aircraft. I love the idea that we might FINALLY be able to get a truly realistic flight modeling of aircraft of that era. But, I genuinely hope that DCS will also be able to start to move to putting resources into the combat simulation aspects with good, realistic AI. Essentially, my whole interest in flight-sims from the very beginning in MSFS 30 years ago is that I wanted to feel what it was really like to have been a combat pilot even though that wasn't a combat sim. Just flying a plane and looking at scenery does nothing for me. And I don't want to fight a P-51 to P-51, either. Let me fight a death struggle with a 109 or see what it was really like to take on a bomber formation. I want to feel the true essence of what combat was like, almost like watching the old movies during my childhood -- that it be a true immersion into the event. I want to be able to spend the time in the study of the aircraft, but I also would love to come as close as possible to experience the images, news, and sounds of the period, and truly feel the terror of what the real thing is/was. In other words, I don't just want to master the controls. I want to come as close as possible to experience what a fighter pilot went through. I can see that not everyone wants this, and yet I personally would like it if DCS could eventually provide it. I want to just let DCS know what I like because I doubt I am alone in these feelings. I don't feel that experience yet with DCS, but I feel they can eventually provide it just because they have such an attention to detail. Of course, what I yearn for is really beyond what any company could really provide, but I think DCS may be best able to come the closest to it if they put their minds to it. So, please DCS, continue to simulate the aircraft to as close to realism as is technically possible. But please, put some more resources into simulating the terror for me. Help me think I am really there. ===================================== Intel I7-6700 32GB RAM, Krait Z170A, NVIDIA RTX 2080ti 11GB, TrackIR5, TM HOTAS Warthog, MFG pedals, Samsung CRG9 49" monitor, HP Reverb VR, 500GB SSD.
Silver_Dragon Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) Post in the facebook of virtual Squadron PC rig set up at Duxford with DCS:P-51 and a Thrustmaster Warthog. Friends of TFC flying the DCS:P-51 with Jim Mackonochie on the left. I had a great evening with TFC at Duxford showcasing the VRA and P-51. The audience was amazed at we do in the VRA. I'll post some pics soon and also a video of night time running up of a Spitfire which was really cool to see. Ells228 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) Just to clear up the pictures. The Virtual Red Arrows have nothing to do with DCS P-51 and have not 'checked it'. They are as eager to get their hands on it as you are. I just so happen to be with the Virtual Red Arrows and a video presentation was given to the Friends of TFC which had the VRA in it (which you neglected to post, as it has nothing to do with P-51's lol) Please don't associate the two without knowing the facts. Thanks, Ells. And a shameless plug for the Friends of TFC: http://fighter-collection.com/pages/tfc/friends/index.php Edited March 12, 2012 by Ells228

Ells228 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 To my knowledge, products have been released when they are publically announced they would be. And certainly not 2 years on. It's not Microsoft we're talking about here ;)
element1108 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I doubt there will be any indication whatsoever before release. Such as been the case the last few releases....ambushed (in the best way possible). I actually like not knowing exactly, not even seeing much of a ramp up. Just, one day check the forums BAAAAAAAAAAAAAM! ED IS PROUD TO PRESENT....or along those lines. For the 67th time....LOOKING FORWARD to this release! 1
