Yep that infiniteye thingy looks good!

Hi Rez and peripheral vision too. If it can be made, then that's my huckleberry.

HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!.

Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.

in contrast to resolution, the most important value, dpi, is not really higher with starvr than the others. So we are still a long way from the 4k @100 degrees that some say is what is needed to see details well enough at a distance.

The problem is that it will cost gpu performance to render the perifial view, which you cannot see with any focus anyhow. 5k will probably take a 980 ti or two to get it running steady at +90 fps.

One solution that has been discussed with other vr sets (FOVE) , might be to have eyetracking, and only render the bits you focus on with highest resolution, mimicing the way we actually see things.

I'm loking forward to see some reviews on starvr soon. I think it's a step in the right direction for sure.

I'm not so sure that a 980Ti would drive a 210* 5K displays, in a complex combat flight sim. It will be interesting to see the system spec sdriving that monster at E3. Although if I remember correctly one of their earlier prototypes had an onboard cpu/gpu, that might be difficult to sync with the desktop cpu/gpu.

Oh man, 210° FoV and 130° Vertical FoV would be what's needed to truly give that natural vision... I so want one!

that would max out my credit card.. lol.

I was thinking the same thing. :)

Unfortunately multi gpu setups introduce latency, and syncing issues in VR. I've always had better experiences with a highend single gpu than SLI type setups, especially in combat flight sims. That said Nvidia, and AMD have been working closely with Oculus and probably other headset creators, to improve their drivers etc for VR.

I'm not sure how StarVR will work with a single threaded DSC engine.

If all fails, we can overclock i7 to 7 ghz :D

AMDs stuff hits 8/9 GHz on LN2...:-)

DCS being Serial Coded isnt the problem, DirectX Draw/Command overhead is..

Early reviews of the Rift CV1 say there is no screen door effect, and the blacks are blacker, and the colors brighter. The blacker blacks and no screen door effect just may make it possible to see distant aircraft with the Oculus Rift.

If only dcs 2.0 was dx12...

EDGE / DCS 2 was started a few years back, DX12 DevTools are just now starting to be distributed to MS Partners first...

If ED ever.decided to pursue DX12, it Likely wont be anytime soon.

Oculus Rift and DCS World Discussion

I was wondering if you use the rift with Dcs how will it work with knowing what your doing with your hands especially with the TH throttle and if your using the MFDs to do buttons. And how about the keyboard and mouse. Would you have to keep lifting the rift off your eyes to see where to go with your hands.??

Posted

using the rift and multitasking, using the mouse and keyboard is very similar to just touch typing... and being able to see the mouse cursor on screen is pretty easy to tell where to point the mouse...

Problem is its not accurate and sometimes you have 2 cursors on your screen and inbetween them is where you click buttons. Its not perfect but not hard either.

DK2 gives you the immersion but not the package. When oculus looks like your 4k computer monitor and over comes hurdles then it will be something.

You can peak out through the bottom of the Rift. At least in DK1 and DK2. We'll see with the CV1.

If everything else fails running i5 >4.5ghz should hopefully be enough for rifting at constant 90fps with decent details on DCS2, if not what will?

And I really hope SLI or CrossFire will be supported as a simple 'if not sure, use brute force' solution for performance issues with stereo rendering.

Those banalities are of no concern once impacted by the experience of VR simming.:)

It called coordination, you dont need to SEE something to use it, do you look at your selector switch on a gun when you shoot? Muscle memory is a beautiful thing. Took a couple weeks to perfect it but know in the rift its totally muscle memory with the hotas warthog and mfd cougars and the keyboard. Dont need to look at any of them to utilize them.

It's a shame they took out the front facing camera for CV1.

Probably some accountant in FB calculated that they can save few bucks if they leave it out.

Gear VR has a front facing camera which works surprisingly well, but it seems that some features (like 1440p resolution and front facing camera) will be reserved for mobile VR this generation :pilotfly:
