DCS already has Rift Support.

For DK2 positional tracking? Ok that's news to me. Great!

Mine's shipped! I really hope 1.2.9 supports DK2 out of the box!

The preliminary 1.2.9 changelog lists that it adds support for DK2.

I'd like to know if it's viable to zoom to read MFDs and gauges with better clarity and to visually search for targets. If it's possible without screwing up your tummy or getting some other nasty side effect then Oculus might be functionally superior to a big 3D TV screen.

I don't expect massive improvements over DK1. The resolution is not high enough yet. Maybe by consumer release but not in the dev kits. Just my opinion. Due to the pixel arrangement of OLED in dk2 it has lower perceived resolution than the HD prototype (Crystal Cove). I'm not expecting to be completely blown away. The Oculus philosophy that games need to be designed for VR may mean a few iterations before the likes of DCS or other monitor based games will be entirely usable. I'm thinking MFDs radios etc.. I'll know next week.

I would like to hear/read about people's honest experiences (how usable it really is in DCS) once they've had it for a while and novetly 'wears off'.

Challenge accepted. :)

I'll let you guys know the initial reaction, and then a few weeks later my experience after using it a few weeks. While I'm not expecting the res to be as good as using a 1080p monitor, I'm feeling pretty confident that it might at least be readable and usable in this version. At least I hope is anyway. :)

From Oculus's good practices guide:

  • Your code should run at a frame rate equal to or greater than the Rift display refresh rate, vsynced and unbuffered. Lag and dropped frames produce judder which is discomforting in VR. Ideally, target 20ms or less motion-to-photon latency
  • Game loop latency is not a single constant and varies over time. The SDK uses some tricks (e.g., predictive tracking, TimeWarp) to shield the user from the effects of latency, but do everything you can to minimize variability in latency across an experience.

I think DCS needs deep changes :music_whistling:

Some guys have got DK2, unpacked and plugged it - https://developer.oculusvr.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=10942

Manual - http://static.oculusvr.com/sdk-downloads/documents/Oculus_Rift_DK2_Instruction_Manual.pdf

And good news for me and other guys from Russia - for those who had pre-ordered in March - Oculus VR had charged the full amount, and some guys had received notifications from delivery company. Not so bad as I expected...

only thing I want to know is if I can read my A-10 HUD and Gauges.

All the fancy crap OR is planning to add to the CV isnt important (outside of higher res). I can Get OLED Screens the same size as OR's with 30% more px from ebay :)

So if everyone says it looks great and feels great. I'll just get a DK2 and help with coding for other sims.

Then when CV Comes out, Buy one and demote the DK2 to my brother for Star Citizen.

On a side note DK1 owners may want to avoid the 1.2.9 update. If it is using a DK2 SDK then DK1 support may no longer work.

Just tried DK1 with DCS 1.2.9 - works fine.

I read on Reddit that 1.2.9 isn't working with DK2. Perhaps ED had a different SDK version and it is an easy fix.
