rabid_monkey Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Fighter Ops.... Lol. I remember that. I told people on their Facebook page a long time ago that paying to receive updates through "Area 51" access was stupid. Of course they publicly flamed me on their page.... Then a year later.... "Sorry, dudes, not happening."

Blaze Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 They said it was cancelled, then back in December they posted an update saying don't believe that and the latest build will blow people away. Cowboy10uk Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 I am sure FO was never a scam. AFAIK, it has not been canceled either. I think quite a few of us here, would disagree. I will admit to being one of those foolish enough to sign onto Area 51. I will agree it had potential, sadly their dreams seemed bigger than their abilities. Oh and what did a get out of my subscription, a sticker. That's it, I think one or two sound bytes of aircraft starting up and that was it. Yes ok I have already stated I've up a lot more down on star citizen, but at least I knw Chris Roberts work, and they are producing the results. So I don't see any concern with it. Even if fighter ops turned up now, the name has such a bad feeling towards it in the simming circles I can't see how they would ever be able to make money. rabid_monkey Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 I am sure FO was never a scam. AFAIK, it has not been canceled either. I don't know if was a scam or not. I just know that wanting people to pay you so they can get updates is ridiculous. They did announce something on their FB page about not continuing development, but that could have changed.
rabid_monkey Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 I mean, if ED told us all to send $50 for regular updates..... I don't think many would. They give out info for free because they produce an excellent product.
element1108 Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 +1 I would have no problem pre ordering the beta from Belsimtek. I'm sure they have taken into account how to make money, in case the release is delayed. However at the end of the day the money has been put to one side for Belsimtek already, so it makes no difference to me if i pay it now or in a few weeks. I just look at it the same as a kickstarter program. I mean I've paid out over $1000 on Star Citizen ( That is for 3 accounts and at least 2 ships per account mind you ) and that's not even planned to turn up before 2015, and is almost certainly going to be delayed. Once the money is put to one side for a project, it's ring fenced so, where the money sits dosnt matter. Cowboy10uk I'd be in for a pre-purchase as well. I've seen the evidence and I love the bird...I'm all in, even if it means I can't fly it right now, the "hard part" will be over with. *off topic*I've also dropped some coin on Star Citizen, not over $1000 at this point, but I got myself a cushy constellation ... waiting for more info/blue prints on what I want as my secondary ship.

They did announce something on their FB page about not continuing development, but that could have changed. That all pre-dated crowd funding I think. Obviously they needed to fund their overly ambitious project, but clearly ... even for the guys who are funded and do it full time...it's VERY time consuming. Unfortunately even near the end there when things weren't looking so great, they never released anything public. Even stuff that was 3 years old (after being released in area 51). Crowdfunding I think is changing the "game" so to speak.

I remember FO (and Jet Thunder) being announced back when I was a sophomore in high school... Hmmmmm Thanks for the update. I was actually just searching for what FO was yesterday and the post go WAAAAY back. From what I gathered no one has seen the product though. I wonder if anyone will get to see their latest build? Hasn't it been about 8 years now, maybe more?
Lt.Seahawk Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Man I remember FO at its beginning, everybody was so over hyped with that simulator and I couldnt wait for it to come out. I knew a few who also payed for the A51 section. I gladly didnt, I just couldnt help myself to get over the feeling that its to early to pay 50$ after seeing what was released on the website itself (a few soundfiles and pictures). Really sad that they cancelled it, I really thought that this would be it, a hardcore realistic simulator. DCS F-14 Tomcat Alley Discord Server: https://discord.gg/ceS859w

SchniX Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Will the anti power lines knifes of the uh-1h be modeled? when hitting a power line will it cut it? Thx
Nate--IRL-- Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Will the anti power lines knifes of the uh-1h be modeled? when hitting a power line will it cut it? Thx Power-line interaction has been part of ED sims since Flanker 1 - helicopters react badly to power-lines, as you will no doubt find out, just as I did, while nearing completion of a near perfect auto rotation. Sundowner.pl Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Will the anti power lines knifes of the uh-1h be modeled? when hitting a power line will it cut it? ThxIt's been some time since I flew low level in DCS, but what I remember is that the only power lines are the high voltage transmission type. Wire strike protection kits were not made to help with with such heavy gauge wires, rather to protect helicopters from effects of striking, a low and medium voltage power line - which are hard to see. ARM505 Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 It's been awhile, but is this modeled in Black Shark II? I haven't done it for a while, but IIRC if you hit the lines with your rotors, you'll need that ejection seat. Hitting the lines with your hull didn't seem to do it, just caused the 'thump' noise and cut the lines (same as a jet in FC), but no rotor damage, so you got to keep flying.
3instein Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 A couple of questions, :) Does anyone have any info/video links showing this wire cutter in action in real life? Is the model that Belsimtek are releasing the model we have in DCS World now, or is it a "reviewed" model, Is the sound/start up animation the same as in World or is/has it been tweaked?
